    Soviets have dog mines I have lost count how many times my opponent just reversed and started to run their tank from the left side clear on over to the right side of the board. I am also starting to like the Ampulomet as it really is a direct fire medium mortar but with only a 24" range, the evil thing is any hit against an armored target that doesn't pen it gets to roll a dice and on a 6 it is on fire. Imagine the shock when they start to laugh knowing it only has a 2 + pen but you roll a 6 and they have 2 pins and are on fire with their very expensive Tiger tank. Or you do the 1-2 punch of a medium mortar hit followed up with the Ampulomet on an infantry target.

    Great video as always! I'm a bit surprised Poland didn't make the list: Fanatics if an officer is attached to the unit, squads of up to 19 (so if you throw in an offer + 2 furthermen you've got 22 dudes), rerollable leadership checks, good supporting fire from artillery and mortars and such, plus access to cavalry that can eat enemy hordes for lunch, and it's a good setup for a horde army.

      @MordianGlory  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I will be totally honest, i didnt know Poland could do that! 😅

      @@MordianGlory yeah, they're my current faction, and they're not that great, but all of the infantry are metal, so the sculpts are really nice and they encourage you with the rules to field a metric ton of them. Just pray you don't hit any serious tanks, because your best "answer" for them are light anti-tank guns or heavy artillery, which is not a good answer, :P

    One tip for political officers and commissars a lot of people miss: You can take a second+ platoon. This lets you field more than one of these units and have them in multiple places at once. The primary reason people normally avoid extra platoons is the mandatory selections, but since you’re spamming infantry and get access to inexperienced 2nd Lt anyways, it’s essentially a non-issue. An added bonus is this also gets you another mortar and/or howitzer to take advantage of your shields.
    I not sure political officer pairs that well with bamboo spears though. Their aura range is only 6 inches, and keeping them next to spearfighters is annoying due to how initiative works. Militia, however can be an extant (however minimal) threat standing still. This lets them provide a shield for your artillery while opponents will hesitate to engage with less than overwhelming force for fear of triggering your 56.4% chance of upgrading these units, but are unable to totally ignore due to their fire and the artillery behind them.

    Had a 3000 point game this week with my Germans vs soviets (I won handily) my mvp was certainly my tiger tank he earned his ace rank by killing 3 is2s
    The soviet player had so many infantry that he genuinely had a hard time fitting them on the board their army is just so big compared to the German forces.

    If you didn't impose dice limits the king of spam would be partisans in the French book, but they need no limits on platoons or order dice to exploit their rules

  • @DukeExeter
    @DukeExeter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You bring up the French but they only get 1 free squad if you take 3 inx squads.
    Romania (if you use it late war allied platoon) gets 1 free squad per EVERY 3 Reg or Inx squads you take. also you still get a free arty piece and dont have the Communication Breakdown special rule too!

    The whole 2 men 1 rifle thing is totally ahistorical in WW2. Hollywood.

    • @matthiuskoenig3378
      @matthiuskoenig3378 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      actually its ahistorical for stalingrad, there was a shortage of rifles in many units during barbarossa.

    • @alexanderbergbacka6825
      @alexanderbergbacka6825 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@matthiuskoenig3378 The lack of supplies is historically accurate, this is true, but sending men over the Don without equipment is not.
      The most common point that people tend to lean into when they say that it is is a guards rifle regiment arriving on the east side of the river without enough rifles, but what happened was that they spend the day gathering rifle from the rear echelon units and then crossed the following day, not a mad rush into German machine guns.
      Chuikov simply didn't have the manpower to do that, he was in fact outnumbered in Stalingrad for most of the battle.
      The same applies to people retreating being gunned down by barrier troops, out of the 15600 people stopped from retreating, only about 300 were shot.
