Alimony is what they get if one spouse wasn't working to sustain them for a bit while they look for another job. It's often why in these stories the guilty party tries to go for an at-fault divorce and blame the victim, so they don't have to pay alimony.
In cases of compensation, that's for when theres clear evidence of abuse or cheating, that's "compensation" for physical, mental, and emotional damages. Cheating is charged a bit separately bc of anti adultery clauses, AFAIK. @@Applestarbaby

Compensation is for cheating. Alimony in the USA is actually meant for changes in living circumstances.
For example, going from 100k a year as a couple to 28k a year as a single woman ( which is median for my area)
From what I read only a couple states let you sue for compensation. I don't think there should be alimony unless 1 person has not worked for a long time during marriage and then divorced but also should include that the person should also have to get a job and after a while alimony is stopped.
Is it possible that alimony for cheating is paid in the countries the stories are made.

In the U.S. alimony is only for divorce. In some European countries Alimony can be claimed if 1 partner cheats on the other before the wedding
