@@FIRLco At least for the more important ones such as finance, engineering, business, science and law etc. You need to pay more to compete to avoid brain drain. Brain drain is never a good thing.
@@FIRLco I mean, not just the very best. I mean any good fresh graduate with good degree, especially from a good educational institution (Both local or overseas) should be paid RM4k and up. An economy doesn't rapidly grow on just the top 10%, it rapidly grows when the middle class rises, the rest of the 50%. To me, a brain drain is far far more costly than paying your staff 30% - 40% more salary. It's a no brainer.
How do you expect a recent graduate without work experience to be welcomed abroad? Most countries want not just a good education level but associated practical experience as well, at least 3 years.
Once salary naik results you cannot get petrol subsidies anymore. Just wondering why we stay here, seems like being a hardworker to earn more is a sin in malaysia.
If you are not satisfied, GO, it will be better for those who stay. Where will you go? UK? US? Canada? Australia? New Zealand? Go, run away, don't stay.
About overqualification: The problem with overqualification is that you want to hire people that stay in the company for a long time. This is where overqualification actually becomes a problem. Also, overqualified people will not like the job... Overqualification maybe more of a problem when you think.
Fresh graduates needs some suffering to grow properly. The harder the environment the better the test, survive Malaysia and you can survive almost anywhere...
BUT in Sg, undergrads usually have internships during the 3- 4 Uni yrs and most are given offers. My 2 gals received more than 3 offers because they interned in 3-4 different com earning their experiences. Holiday time was not wasted while gaining self confidence as young adults.
SG can always bring in foreigner to work as rubbish collector if malaysian workers are asking higher salary. Eventually AI will take over garbage collector. We need to acquire skills that hard to be learned or copied
The first thing Malaysian fresh graduates invest are on a car loan. They have not even started paying their education loan they already embarked with another loan. And they are complaining they cannot invest or save money because of low salary. Honestly the country will not lose anything if they leave. Many neighbouring countries young graduates willing to fill those gaps. They will be very happy to have the opportunity. Little to the Malaysians but abundant to them. And whose loss? Yes can go to richer country to have more salary but live with higher cost of living too. Nothing difference. On the other hand #MalaysianGovernment too must review the salary scales of all employment (including the private sector) time to time. Most of the time cost of living is getting higher and salary scales remain stagnant. This is not right.
Do they have any choice? The car dependant system in Malaysia forces everyone to have a car. If you don't have a car outside Klang Valley, you're literally stranded. Grab is becoming more and more unreliable nowadays. Even within Klang Valley the outskirts are not well serviced with public transport. The salaries in Malaysia are too low. That is a problem that we must ready to admit and tackle.
Malaysian employers need to level-up, especially in economic growth areas such as Klang Valley, Penang. Paying your staff 30% - 40% more is better than losing the talent to other countries. The outcome is far far worst. Not only is you lose the local talent, but, you benefit the other country. Use your damm brains employers in Malaysia. Moreover, this way, hopefully, will reduce reliance on foreign workers as well, using automation and hire more local.
@@leealex24 Public transport is complemented by e-hailing. Even within KL itself, many areas are not accessible by MRT and LRT. Feeder buses are only reliable for certain routes. Unless one lives and works within walking distance of urban rail transit, private transport is a necessity to travel around KL.
I am senior fr TAR college. Fr what I see is u should look beyond Malaysia, due to current situation of global economy collapsing, many big firms have closed down or on the way closing down. Unemployment among global fresh graduates or graduates is increasing exponentially. For example China, there are millions of graduates unemployed every year. Many foreign investors has withdrawn fr China and also Malaysia, in fact fr many many countries. So, there aren’t enough company to absorb any graduates. Therefore , whether u graduates go abroad or stay local, there are enough jobs to absorb you people moreover the syllabus you people studies in universities and colleges are very outdated and not needed by current firms. Everybody know that. Therefore, in years to come, you people most probably be conscripted to fight in World War III like in Russia. Get ready for war, or go into war industries , not career anymore like years before!
Don't be happy to for a job that can either be replaced by someone with less experience, or ai. I'm part of a team that's pushing out Ai automation globally for my company. Sometimes it's cheaper to hire a person compared to implement Ai. But only rarely, especially in bigger companies. So it's happening already.
Fresh graduates starting salary should at least been paying rm3000-3500 pm as the salary per day for foreigners are already are getting rm120 per day..
Effect of millions of foreign workers pressed down the job markets and demands. Another possible reasons so called 'oversupply' of average graduates yearly into job market reflects quantity superceed quality.

Yes, a good gov should hv developed jobs in ALL fields. 30yrs ago I wanted badly to specialize in bio-chem line but those "callus-culture" projects announced by gov didn't last. So I joined chemistry analytical line. One of the problems with UM graduates is they hv this mindset that "honours grads don't need to down to inspect production lines" 😅 And this Indian guy couldn't evdn write a full English report because he asked me to do it for him after insinuating my "general degree". This type of mindset hasn't changed much. Don't study STEM if you don't want to handle sewage, blood, etc.
Actually you shouldn't expect freedom the first 5 or 6 years into working life for fresh grads. What should be expected is living with your parents and save your money for 5 to 6 years in that period start investing as well. Regardless what the starting pay is going to be, whether is 2.5K, 3.5 k or even 4k plus. after 5 or 6 years saving and investing while living with parents then only have your freedom la. Because this expensive world is not only Malaysia is also in Singapore and overseas. Just bore your life and be discipline for 5 to 6 years only ma after that once got enough Money for survival, investing for the future and emergencies than only think about living alone la or with friends or couples la I also like that and I'm doing just fine only. I stayed with my parents and saved and invest 2k per month for 6 years got lucky in Tesla stock in 2020 where my 5k grew to 60k and I sold the stock and totalled income of saving and investing about 200k I then invested in dividend stocks with and average dividend of 5% get 10k per year then with the job of 3k+ salary plus dividends roughly about 4k . Then I just reinvest my dividends and expand my income without worrying about money anymore.
Thats provided if your family is well off and dont require you to cover their debts and living expenses. Most B40 and M40 are living that way and even take up part time jobs just to cover tabs. Your comment shows that you have no real life experience with the common people and out of touch with reality. Coming from a M40 family I manage to save up and got myself a housing loan for the next 30 years. Which means I am financially stuck until I retire unless or otherwise the company I am working in decides I am competent to move up the ladder. Here's the catch, most of the previous gens are still in job market and taking up places for the next 10 years. So if I am to stay for another 10 years and get lucky enough to be promoted, I may be able to cover the tabs AND afford more. Note that I did not mention anywhere me being qualified or competent for the job but rather being 'lucky'. Reality is that office works and corporate depends a lot on connections and luck. As the older gens always say - Its a big club and you're not part of it unless you get lucky
IMO the real problem is not pay being too low but rather inflation thats overtaking the graph along with depreciation of ringgit. i.e. Chicken rice 5 years ago was RM7 and now it is RM10, thats absolutely mental ! A price hike of 50% over 5 years when my pay only has hope of increasing by perhaps 30% over 10 years ! I have no actual statistics but its more of a comparison to my own job's rate of increment as compared to the market's situation. Most of us dont mind starting off small and low but if there's hardly a way to move up in life, you can't really blame the younger gens for laying flat or giving up quickly because life is just too fast paced these days. You can't sit around and wait for a 'chance' anymore and its better to give up and look elsewhere quickly to ensure survival
Philippine are able to produce millions of graduates yet most of them work overseas as maids sometimes it makes one wonder about their cert standards not only Philippine but hope malaysia has the credibility 😅😅
The reality is that there are too many tertiary institutions producing too many graduates in a diminishing job market. You see this happening in Malaysia, the Philippines, India, China, US, Australia and many others. For instance in Australia, there are too many university graduates but insufficient technical and trade graduates, forcing the country to "import" nurses, teachers, construction workers, plumbers, electricians, cooks, social workers, etc. Vocational schools in the country have free tuition.
Perhaps. I'm curious to ask you this. Let's say its unfair for employers to stereotype that most fresh graduates are lazy. Would it be also unfair to say most employers pay peanuts because they're greedy?
@@FIRLco I think they mean it in the sense of foreign cash inflow. It works well for JB tho. Businesses are flourishing in JB due to the huge inflow of SGD

Civil servants make up a tiny proportion of employment in Malaysia & inflation has been going up & up for like forever. This is not a recent phenomenon, it has been going on for decades. High inflation, low wages. I have worked at several companies & I can tell u for sure, Malaysian companies have TERRIBLE management. They waste money on stuff that does not matter & nobody cares about, meanwhile the increment given to staff year after year was abysmal. Malaysian managers are low quality. Terrible at their jobs but very good at ash kissing. They are also very racist. I welcome the PH gov move to make it easier to allow expats to work here as managers. Teach our local people how to be good managers & how to work efficiently.
Those workers collecting the oil palm in the plantation are earning more or less around Rm6-7k a month & even more if the harvest is more lucrative as they are measured by per ton too. So, l am very sad to hear the fresh grads are paid that miserablly.xx
This talk blah blah blah is a totally waste of time. Tell you what, just go home spend time with your love ones. You can discuss until the cows come home and it is waste of time. Malaysia's rampant and wide spread corruption couple with Malaysia's government racist, apartheid and harmful policies are the cause of the problems. On record, Malaysia currently is the world's 2nd most racist country.
Its clear why racism arises- why do all top positions have to be filled by malays? Doesnt aptitude or the best qualified count? Why are many priveleges restricted only to bumis.? Perhaps if there is equality for all, the ugly head of racism would not have appeared. We have our policians to thank for this
It all voice down to the govt. Unable to forecast or plan the demand for graduates to be higher than the supply. Some courses are actually irrelevant n graduates ended up over qualified for a simple job vacancy.
Just leave.. It's better when nobody stays here.. The demand will be higher but the supply isn't enough.. That's the only way candidates can demand for high salary.. as of now, low morale
You won’t find jobs anywhere soon with Mass AI adoption. The best advice is - pivot to conservation and environment based sectors. A lot of ESG funding but not enough people wanting to do the work! Besides, it’s more fun than sitting in an office all day. You may not be rich but at least you make a difference and your quality of life will be better. ❤
Hmmm I think most of the correspondents here, is missing the point. It’s competency. Most graduates don’t even understand what they have studied, lack of hard and soft skills. Very academic. Not ready for upstream type work. Lacks the skills for deserving higher paying jobs. Always overrated
You got your concept so very wrong.... Most employers would not prefer to hire a person that is overly qualified for a particular role; because an overly qualified candidate would not be satisfied with a very much simple mundane role so much so they would likely leave their job and hence causing high turn over rate which is not healthy to run an operation. Employment is based on matching qualifications and the right attitude / values of the candidate.
a fresh graduate cannot be over qualified .lack of experiences is quite worthless.paper qualification is not over qualified.STEM graduates can get jobs.Dont expect high salary
The brave and capable will venture out to conquer the world. The gutless useless trash will stay back in their little village. These people already 'quit' even before they started.
Rubbish, overqualified is a misleading word. Our graduates , once out of the country will be regarded as second or third class. This is the facts. Sorry for saying this. .
This is true for most countries globally, right now there is a move to deDollarization by moving into BRICS certainly this would have impact in creating economic balance globally..
If given a chance to redo again, I will still have a professional degree but will join a none traditional business job like an insurance agent to gain a stable financial and passive income support within 3-5 years (10k-30k per month) then only to begin accomplishing my dream work based on what my professional academic degree, of course you may do it while you are working on other fields, in this case which is an insurance agent for example, but is a bit energy consuming unless you are able to cope. At the end of the day, you will retire, regardless of what job position you hold in previous company, after retirement, you are just a normal person, no one cares, and this is where the truth start to review upon you. Therefore, before the truth review on you, you will review the truth first that is stay away from joining traditional related business models that lock your time, freedom and even your health as well.

@@FIRLco At least for the more important ones such as finance, engineering, business, science and law etc. You need to pay more to compete to avoid brain drain. Brain drain is never a good thing.
@@leealex24 I think the best do get paid very well in these fields you mention get paid very well in Malaysia.
Soon no more let leave
How do you expect a recent graduate without work experience to be welcomed abroad? Most countries want not just a good education level but associated practical experience as well, at least 3 years.

Once salary naik results you cannot get petrol subsidies anymore. Just wondering why we stay here, seems like being a hardworker to earn more is a sin in malaysia.
We should be like the rest of the world without subsidies then Malaysians can learn to live according to their means.

Some yes.
I agree with you.
BUT in Sg, undergrads usually have internships during the 3- 4 Uni yrs and most are given offers. My 2 gals received more than 3 offers because they interned in 3-4 different com earning their experiences. Holiday time was not wasted while gaining self confidence as young adults.

Jai Hind. Work as Rubbish collector in Singapore is even more lucrative
true, but career prospects less.
SG can always bring in foreigner to work as rubbish collector if malaysian workers are asking higher salary. Eventually AI will take over garbage collector. We need to acquire skills that hard to be learned or copied
My friends has achieved very high 'position' in their job, all of them 'manager'...... From insurance company A to Z.
Car is becoming less necessary these days in Klang Valley as public transport is much much better now.
@@leealex24 Yes there are improvements. But still a long way to go
Malaysian employers need to level-up, especially in economic growth areas such as Klang Valley, Penang.
Unless one lives and works within walking distance of urban rail transit, private transport is a necessity to travel around KL.
sharing accommodation happens overseas also in usa...where 3/4 new workers share a hse...unless u hv rich parents u r forced 2 share
You are part of the problem
Fresh graduates starting salary should at least been paying rm3000-3500 pm as the salary per day for foreigners are already are getting rm120 per day..
Effect of millions of foreign workers pressed down the job markets and demands. Another possible reasons so called 'oversupply' of average graduates yearly into job market reflects quantity superceed quality.
Do Malaysian want these jobs?
@@FIRLco
If low level job pay decently like Singapore than the next job bracket is higher up. Cheap labour paid around RM 1200 than graduate pay only slightly better between 1800-2400 only.
Anyway we should move away from cheap and low value added industry similar to what Hong Kong and Taiwan did once was called copycat and toy making country. I see over here the system keep our people poor.
You want good income. Do two jobs or sales
I'm a graphic designer and i wanna come to Malaysia, there's any opportunity?
Your regime requires discipline. Good job!
Depending on one’s circumstances. Ideally, what you say is right and we preach that!
@@brendongunn9477 thanks for sharing. I believe inflation is a global problem and for sure previous generations got it lucky.

To some extent many Malaysian employers pay peanuts to fresh graduates. Why?? Greed.
Perhaps.
I'm curious to ask you this. Let's say its unfair for employers to stereotype that most fresh graduates are lazy. Would it be also unfair to say most employers pay peanuts because they're greedy?

Could it be due to the over-increase in civil servant salary that jack up the cost of living, and the inability of private sector to match the salary?
Is working abroad any better?

A lot of graduates cannot perform according to their qualification.
"Qualification"
Qualified yes but quality wise no.
They are not trained to think - critical thinking
