One of the biggest surprises to me when I was researching options to purchase the Strato V was finding out that once I add a Terra Server, that instead of adding to the storage you already have on board, it makes it unavailable and you’re only able to access the storage in the Terras and lose the space with it the Strato V. that’s a huge bummer. Baffling decision by Kscape.
ok guys lets go watch lucy ... hold on i have to delete a movie from my drive to make space ... ok we have to wait until it syncs so it knows we have room ... ok guys give it a sec ..... " a few moments later " ok guys come by tomorrow ... it should be ready .. .. so i guess with the 1TB drive my guess would be to keep only say 6 - 7 movies on it .. in case you want to download something else... i will stick with my Zidoo and my own HD
LOL It takes 10 minutes to download a full movie. How long does it take you to drive to Best Buy (or even shop on Amazon) to purchase Lucy and rip it to your hard drive / NAS so you can then view it? It doesn't get any easier and faster than what Kaleidescape offers.
Your same logic would be if you had to rebuild your movie collection onto another hard drive or NAS. You can't transfer an entire collection in a few moments. It's a long process. The difference is if your hard drive completely fails and you don't have a backup, you'll have to rip your entire collection again. With Kaleidescape, you simply download your library to the new server with a few clicks.
@@Youthman No offense but Netflix, Prime, Disney, Apple. The only reason I see anyone spending thousands instead of 10 bucks a month is that you want the best picture possible because you're using a projector? Is that right? So once these large micro led video walls become more affordable, no one will bother with this asinine ridiculously priced movie products.
Streaming content is pretty bad, especially the audio. But even last week, her family, and I begin to watch Survivor on Paramount + and the pixelation on the text and logos were horrific! Streaming is convenient but it’s terrible. There is absolutely zero comparison between even the best streaming platform and Kaleidescape. We all have to decide what our standards are and what we are ok with. If streaming looks and sounds good enough for you, there’s nothing wrong with that.
My issues are: - You never actually own anything tangible - If the company shuts down you've got a $10k paperweight - Digital products further perpetuates the "you will own nothing and like it" direction of streaming and VOD - Limited market means fewer sales, which means less bites at the consumer apple making studios be less "risky" = less passion projects, more safe lifeless films - Price
My issues are: - streaming is garbage - physical media is going away - required storage space needed for physical media - discs get scratched Kaleidescape is pricey, but it’s the absolute best source by offering lossless audio and video, an easy to use platform for the entire family and it’s the only legal way of downloading movies.
@@Youthman physical media has actually seen a surge is sales over the last few years. The overall dip is from people streaming who aren't the demographic for digital storage or physical discs, we are the minority there certainly. At their current pricing structure it's really not a concern because it's a fraction of a percent of enthusiasts who will buy this and it's mainly going to be the people who get your Anthony Grimani's of the world to build them an HT and sign a blank check at the end. It's one step away from having to pay a monthly fee to have access to your equipment.
I’m sure the kscape and physical discs are better than streaming, but I don’t think streaming is garbage at all. I regularly watch movies from Apple TV+, iTunes, Netflix, and Max, and even though it may be compressed, the movies I’m watching still look and sound amazing. It definitely comes down to your quality of internet you have.
@@Youthman i agree it hard to get people to unstand that i kpe have people who say i only watch it one time and streaming is good enoguh it or they get 1 tv show on bluray and say that good enough or 1 or 2 movie from liblty
@@Youthman I do agree on some of your points. Streaming is "garbage", but still ok for the vast majority. Physical media isn´t going away as long as it has such a huge audience wanting to own a movie and enjoy a superior experience compared to "garbage" streaming. One thing I do disagree with is that you state that KS offers lossles audio and video. That´s not true. The KS version of any movie is compressed from the DCP to meet KS standards. So there is still loss and lower bitrate. No digital downloadable format is truely lossles. If it was You wouldn´t be able to fit a single movie on a Terra server.
So with the Kaleidoscape did you stop buying physical disc and did you repurchase 4k blu rays for the Kaleidoscape? Also did you unhook your blu ray from your home theather?
I haven’t purchased a physical disk since installing Kaleidescape. The only disks that I use my 4K player for now is a demo disk JVC sent me that isn’t available on Kaleidescape. I use it when reviewing projectors since it’s royalty free 4K content.
Michael:: Would you recommend having 2 Strato V's & a Terra Prime, if you have 2 displays (TV & Projector) that you would like to have a Kaleidescape hooked up to?
Yes, the Strato has faster download speeds than the Strato C (depending on your internet connection). Unless you need dual HDMI (separate audio and video), the Strato V is the best choice. If you decide to buy, feel free to reach out to me at youthman@obsessedhometheater.com.
Hey Youthman, great content as always. Question, is the Kscape worth it if you don’t have a dedicated movie space? I have a 65 in OLED in my living room as my main movie watching space.
Everyone’s “Is it worth it” will be different. Is a Kaleidescape beneficial on even a 65” TV setup? Absolutely. You have a beautiful TV and you said that is your main movie watching space. Kscape offers the best audio / video quality with massive convenience for renting or purchasing movies and concerts with lossless audio and video.
Why do t you upgrade the drive in the strato v? Do they not offer the os for download or a recovery partition That can be migrated over to another drive? What if the drive that comes with it dies or get corrupted and needs to be reinstalled? For the price you should absolutely have these options. Even Apple allows this on there computers...which is all this is. Even consoles that have a removable drive offer you to upgrade it and reinstal its operating system. Some even have an expansion slot to add a 2nd drive for data. You should absolutly take the strato v apart. I'd love to see what the main board layout is like and see what headers and expansion slot there may or may not be.

My internet modem is not near the TV, could I use wireless repeater to connect the Strato V to or does it have to be hard wired. My modem is in another room and my home is not set for CAT 6 cables.
Both the Strato V and Terra Prime Server will need to be hard wired to your network. The server can be in another room, but the Strato V connects to your TV, AVR or Projector via HDMI so it typically is in the same room or close to the room it will be used in.
