  • #weeze is a municipality in the Lower Rhine (Niederrhein) region, in the northwestern part of North Rhine-Westphalia in the district of #kleve in the region of Düsseldorf.
The municipality consists of the town of Weeze and the village of Wemb and has approximately 10,500 inhabitants. Not to be confused with Weeze (the person) from Forest Glade, Windsor. It is situated in the district of Kleve, embedded in the northwestern part of the Lower Rhine Region, and lies between Goch to the north and Kevelaer to the south. The Netherlands lie directly to the west.
The Municipality offers a wide range of outdoor activities. An almost 210 km (130 mi) network of bridle, cycling and rambling paths, partially along the Niers River, as well as recreational activities such as angling, canoeing and kart racing round off an abundance of leisure activities in and around the Municipality.
The Herrensitz-Route, a border-crossing cycling route, guides cyclists to these and many other highlights and attractions of the region, such as Kleve, home of Anne of Cleves; Kevelaer, famous for its pilgrimages, Moyland Castle between Kalkar and Bedburg-Hau, or Gennep in the Netherlands where the Meuse and Niers rivers converge. The Weeze animal park with its educational trail and children's zoo is a special attraction for families. The park is located on the edge of the town next to the ruins of Hertefeld Castle.

Wow, great video, I was born in Weeze and lived there for the first 20 years of my life. About weeze there are some videos, but yours is by far the best. Your video brings back old memories, like the former hospital (4:00-4:19, right side, unfortunately you can only see the walls) or my elementary school (4:33). As always in life has changed a lot the houses. Many are new or restored. Too bad, I would have liked to see more. Danke schön.

Hello Ruby, thank you very much for your answer and question. Again, you really did a nice video with professional surround camera work. For me, of course, it was like delving into my own past. On the one hand many wistful memories are awakened, on the other hand one is irritated because some things are new, different or no longer exist. I visited Weeze for the last time in 2007. As I watched the video, I was hoping that you would continue walking straight ahead on the street Wasserstrasse (minute 14:30). Why? Because I was born at Wasserstrasse 66. But the decision to turn right towards the Niers was correct because there is a beautiful park with a children's playground on the Niers river. The road Wasserstrasse straight ahead is rather boring. Only residential street, few shops and restaurants.
The idea of making a new video would of course be appealing to me, but I don't think there are that many interesting places in Weeze anymore. For people who don't know Weeze, it would be rather boring. I would therefore advise against it with a heavy heart. If you have any further questions, you are of course welcome to contact me.
A nice town nearby is Kevelaer with about 30000 inhabitants, 6 km south of Weeze. I'm not religious but it's a really nice Catholic pilgrimage site with a beautiful chapel dedicated to Mary the mother of Jesus.
      Bye Helmut

Thank you Helmut for taking time to comment. I do appreciate it. I was also in Kevelaer and i make video also there. Its a nice town. I do hear a lot with the pilgrimage in there and hoping to film it if i have time. What you think about the weeze Airport? They are celebrating every July the Parookaville Festival there and August the San Hejmo festival.Do you think would it be worth it to make Video without the festival or is it allowed to visit the location? Wanna explore also the Niederrhein .I was in Weeze, Kevelaer, Geldern and Goch. Have a nice day

      Hello Ruby,
sorry for replying a bit late. I noticed that you have already visited several cities on the Lower Rhine. By now you should know the Lower Rhine better than I do. Have you had enough of the Lower Rhine? Then I recommend Austria and Switzerland or have you already been there?
I don't know if I understood your question correctly. You want to make a video of the Parookaville Festival grounds outside of the festival. That `s not worth it. I've never been to the site, but I know the landscape around it. It is used for agriculture. A visit to the festival with 70,000-80,000 visitors every day (July 21-23, 2023) should be worth seeing. Unfortunately, it costs around €200. Of course you can film the airport from outside. Inside the building you would probably run into problems. I've never heard of the San Hejmo Festival.
Another cultural highlight is the Tamil pilgrimage to Kevelaer. Unfortunately I don't know the date, probably in August.
      Bye Helmut
