As a 54 year old Burt Reynolds fan, it's my favourite movie of his. I actually watched it again on the day I heard of his passing, the final scene when he looks at the camera and gives the O.K sign with his gloved hand had me in tears. A brilliant movie from a legend of a man God bless you

As much as I loved Smokey and the Bandit, when I was a kid, Hooper was and is my favorite. Lots of laughs, the craziest stunts I've even seen in a single movie, and even a bit of a dramatic storyline. Perfect Burt Reynolds movie and best movie Hal Needham directed.

I was a rookie Pittsburgh Steeler when this movie came out, and at the premiere of the movie in Pittsburgh in July 1978, Terry Bradshaw took me and another rookie with him to see it. He drove in an old standard pick-up truck, and when we got to the packed theater, the people waiting in line and the people already in the theater went nuts seeing Bradshaw!
He had a fun part in it, and as a side note, Terry was a superstar, yes, but also a really nice guy. And his full salary for that 1978-1979 Super Bowl champion season was a whopping $400k… and he was the the SB XIII MVP. Now, a guy who has never thrown an NFL pass, signs a 5-year $250 million contract, with $50 million of it guaranteed. So ridiculous!
Anyway, a fun film, and a fun memory.

Thanks for sharing! Hooper was my fav as a 12 yr old and led me to want to be a stunt man. However, given no clear career path that way it led to me doing increasingly dangerous stunts around the house! Many falls from roofs, into creeks, jumping cars on bicycles, and the one that hurt most, wrapping myself in freezer tape and being lit on fire (pro tip, even after you put out the fire, the tape glue still burns like a mofo!). But really we were going to probably try that stuff anyway. We were already saying 'Evel Knievel that!' before jumping ramps and stuff. This movie was just perfectly timed during that era! Thanks again for such an entertaining post and one that really took me back!

The Vibe in HOOPER is contagious and reminds me of another time...it's almost like the (secret and better) sequel to Smokey and the Bandit. James best away from the Rosco character is such a trip. I also, didnt realize the huge influence on Glen Larson's the Fall guy, which I absolutely loved as a kid. I totally missed out on this one until just a few weeks ago. Love the segments!!!

Edington Thanks man! Very much appreciated. I agree totally. “Hooper” is flawless... “Smokey” has a few cringe worthy moments, mostly acting chops on side characters. It’s a shame that “Hooper” isn’t available on any streaming services or digital downloads (iTunes). Other than Blu-ray/DVD, the modern audience can’t see it. Cheers! Gator 🐊

Me too... The biggest problem is that it is not available digitally. Can purchase it any way except for DVD/BluRay. And most people have given up on physical media. Turner Classics aired it recently, but other than that, you can’t even find it on any streaming services. If the film landed on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, perhaps it would find its audience. Another film with the same release issue is “The Cannonball Run”. Not as good a film but certainly a fun watch. Hard to find anywhere other than DVD. Ridiculous! Thanks for watching! Cheers! Gator

Les titres "Nothin' Like The Life (Of A Hollywood Stuntman)" et "A Player, A Pawn, A Hero, A King" sont intemporels...

Yeah... Not worded right... However, the success of Smokey paved the way for a show like Dukes to get made and financed by a studio. Also has the name "Bo", Burt's buddy James Best and the Sherif with bumbling deputy sure looks familiar. So not "Based", but certainly influenced by in a lot of ways. Thanks so much! Cheers! Gator 🐊

I was 8 years old when I went to go see this at the movie theater. I tell you, if not for TH-cam, I don't think anyone else would remember it. This was a great movie for an 8-year-old boy.
Whatever remember about it is seen Coors beer. I live on the east coast. I grew up on the East Coast. I had never heard of that beer before, until I saw it in this movie.
Years later they moved east, and became a normal site at our grocery stores. But I remember the Coors was not here, simply because I remember seeing a product in a movie that I had never seen before in 1978.
But then again, now that I think of it, he was running Coors beer in Smokey and the bandit. I guess I just didn't notice it when I was watching Smokey and the bandit at age 7.
But the time I remember seeing it was in this movie.

Mr McKlusky, Your Hooper content is amazing to me. My favourite movie growing up and it still is... The deleted scenes and making of is cool to watch. I watched a wide screen version last week and for the first time ever I saw a joke that is cut off the TV version... Tony, played by Alfie Wise, is in the background of the scene where Sonny arrives to see the rocket car at the studio. Tony escorts a showgirl into the special effects warehouse and 30 seconds later the showgirl walks out of the warehouse. It's a blink and you miss it but the joke isn't visible on a full screen version of the movie.

@@GATORMcKLUSKYreviews I watched it on FACEBOOK in full.. Supposed to get my Blu Ray TODAY... I felt so bad for the doggie that took the fall... I met Adam West as a toddler.. My mom said that I talked to him as I sat on his lap as he was Batman.... So cool!

Yeah... You can get the Blu-Ray but it's not available digitally. Not sure why. Burt films, other than a few don't get the respect they deserve. Thanks for watching. Cheers! Gator

When I first saw Hooper I was only young about 7 or 8 and I said then . When I grow up I want to be a Stuntman, unfortunately I never never made it because I never had the opportunity . But I know I would have made one hell of a Stuntman. Dar Robinson Hal Needham Burt Reynolds where my hero's .

One of my all time faves..and the irony is if the pressure had been full, they'd have hit parked cars and people when they landed so they should be glad it had fallen beforehand :)

13:07 I think this fourth wall breaking thumbs up freeze frame cemented Burt's fate as a good time Charlie and froze him out from any future respect (Oscar). He just had too damn much fun in his films and had to be punished. That was my take away at the time, anyway.

If you look close you can see the red car that makes the big jump at the end is not a '78 Trans-Am... it looks like a miniature of a Datsun 280Z or something similar

Alot of folks aren't aware that Terry Bradshaw sold used cars in the off-season and Franco Harris hitch-hiked to games as a rookie. The NFL, those fantastic players built it, but they didn't get rich back in the early 70s.
