Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Looting abandoned settlement in Thargoid invaded system

- Right after I learned about the abandoned settlements in Thargoid invaded systems, I wanted to give this a try. Expected tense atmosphere, danger and a LOT of loot - And it didn't disappoint :D

Meeting that random CMDR is exactly why I would love to see proximity chat in Elite.

Proximity radio frequency channels with muffled voice chat like the comms we get from stations would be awesome.
I wouldn't use the word "LOOTING", IF it's abandoned, it's salvageing.
True, that being said, if the original guys who had to abandon it return, I'm sure they will miss it lol
@@cmdrHeliaxx They would only return if and when the budget permit's. Which if everything is gone, they would be able to get an increase in the budget and purchase new and improved componets.
Now, you're lucky thargoid ground combat isn't a thing yet. Imagine pillaging that place, and while looting you hear loud footsteps approaching... Then, around a dark corner, a thargoid footsoldier appears, lurching towards you... If thargoid interceptor combat has anything to say about it, i'd imagine fighting a thargoid on-foot would be quite difficult.
Oh yeah, them swarming the settlementes would definitely be scary as hell XD
It is. At least in the past (old game lore) it was described that Thargoids were easily able to rip a human appart with their bare claws while conventional weaponfire had nearly no effect on them. Yay! :D
Im gonna take a guess and say not a single actual living thatgoid has entered our galaxy since the virus was used on them, and all of their ships sense then were unmanned. Makes sense they wouldn't want to risk bringing back a disease like that to other galaxies accidentally while rereating again.
Or finding out that all the staff has been infected with some kind of thargoid virus and now they are zombies trying to attack you, I don't know, I just imagined it hahaha.
corpses half melted by the caustic nature of thargoid weaponry would be something.
love it !! .. the Thargoid threat, the NPC AX pilots and the player make it feel more alive and immersive

I just wish the AX chatter was either more varied or less frequent, they repeat themselves way too much
I've been wanting to try this, but I'm a terrible combat pilot and didn't want to risk getting blown up. Glad you did it first so I could see!
Hey, if you go in solo and make sure to dismiss your ship, I Guess there's not really that much of a risk, So I recommend you try it! It's awesome 😁
Unfortunately a thargoid field shut down my SRV and I couldn't dismiss my ship in time. I tried "recover to orbit" and now the game crashes every time I log in... :(
@@margotrosendorn6371 aw, thats a shame :/ Maybe you can try to check integrity of the files if you have it on Steam? Kinda weird tha the recover option doesn't work, I tried it and it didnt work for me. Btw you can also dismiss your ship when just on foot, and the ship actually ignores the pulse if you're not in it, and will jump out just fine.
@@cmdrHeliaxx verifying the files and stuff didn't work, but I opened a ticket with Frontier and managed to get things fixed. Now that there are post-thargoid systems with abandoned settlements, salvage will be easier
If you want to raid abandoned settlements in general, go for systems with Infrastructure failure. I also like to bring a power regulator to power up the base, so I don't need to worry about suit power. Just remember to take it with you.
I like to think, someone goes back home and just flips out "SOMEONE STOLE ALL MY DAMN BEANS"
Smart going to an abandoned settlement to loot instead of anarchy, but i guess I'd need luck to get around the aggresive 'flying cabbage traps' lol :) o7 You got a sub

FYI in case you didn’t know, abandoned settlements exist in systems other than those controlled/threatened by thargoids
Bring a reg and some e breaches turn the power on so you can get the data too then just take the reg back as you leave 😀
Yeah, and wait for 5 minutes for both the activation and deactivation of the base
Thanks for the tip. Thought about both of these in the process, but didn't really want to recall the ship mid-way through. I gotta do it next time tho!
@@cmdrHeliaxx your power regulators are also accessible from your SRV, not just your ship. You can also put one in your backpack before you leave the ship.

For whatever reason, "Murder Flowers" brings that movie to mind. Lol
nice with a military settlement you can get suit schematics and other suit/weapons goods for upgrades quite easily no hopefully no npc spawns

I'm a new commander. I did the same thing for a settlement activation mission, except I raided a separate one.
Ended up getting 120k for the settlement and over 300k for the loot. Super fun game so far.
II can see this becoming my forever game, especially if we can eventually play on our own servers.

Power up the base to make looting easier then power down when done. This requires one power regulator, but I generally have several in my inventory.

They should add thargoid pilots to conquer the ground settlements. This is deffinily something awesome to add.

what if you turn power online in the settlement ? turrets could kill some goids

I did this as wel, but it was pitch dark then, send my ship back up to 'safety' and drove my srv to the settlement, while later thargoids appeared, and looked like they where searching the surface, making ominous noises, it was down right scary...because i don't do combat versus thargoids, i'm more of a freighter/adventurer myself.
I’m wondering if you could have got the power station working take a regulator with you etc?

Open is still full of people, only a small fraction of them being hostile. Nevertheless, that situation there with the landing Python was tense! :D
Went to one of those the moment u14 dropped. So disappointed there were nothing there, like thargoids on foot or even thargoid-controlled humans. Some battle scars should be a minimum, like caustic substance here and there and this green mist - it alone would add alot to a climate of those settlements.
Well, these Are of course at the attacked ones, but the only abandoned ones, yeah, these don't have it.
@@cmdrHeliaxx the system is conquered by thargoids when all starports are "controlled" by Thargoids. That would mean, SOME Ody settlements should have been attacked as well.
@@kempo79 Eh, I probably expressed it badly. The thing is - 63 Eridani is in the "thargoid invasion" state. There are settlements which are abandoned, and settlements which are under attack. The under attack ones have the things you mentioned (except on foot troops)

This is the sort of thing that will happen if we get base building. One can be at home and doing stuff at the same time. Being attacked while your alone, by numeriouus ganker's or when your not home by simply one. Either way, unless bases are simular to the carrier's. In the way they can't be attacked. If one has ever played after NMS, got base building, after SC got base building. To see that base building and the time, effort and fund's one will invest; Are futile!

Did those AX pilots actually drive off the interceptor? They have become a lot more capable lately.
Yeah, I think they did. They used to be pretty much useless but Now that they got the AX weapons they're surprisingly capable.
@@cmdrHeliaxx it makes things a lot more acceptable for new players dropping into AX zones. The search and rescue even send over limpets now! It's really nice!

Man this is so fluid. Can I ask what specs you run this with? I'm on i7, rtx3060 but not as fluid as this. Also on 3440x1440, 100 hrz refresh rate, 1.0x supersampling.

As for graphics, if you want you can write me on discord (heliaxx) and Imma send you exact settings, but the thing that tanks the performance the most are shadows so I dont have that on the highest settings

Noob question. is it illegal to loot abandon settlement? Loot Item will be mark illegal?
No, it's not illegal. Actually, during restore/reactivation missions, those where you need to insert a power regulator and restart the generator, you can always collect materials without them being flagged as stolen. Although I must admit, I haven't done it for a couple of months, so it could have changed. But I did as many missions of them as possible, the real payment being the materials. :)
I went to one of those places to loot too and it was completely emtpy, darn!
Interesting, could it be it doesn't respawn? But that doesn't feel right. Maybe there was someone holding the already looted instance?
@@cmdrHeliaxx I doubt, cause there were locked cabinets that i had to open with the laser and they were still empty. The only things I found were some ammo and power cells.
Whenever I loot an abandoned settlement I always take a Power regulator

When you see your CMDR on the middle panel (where your srv is etc ) he is different. You can see entirely for example. On my ship I can only see the top of the body. That why I'm asking you if you have done specific settings for this or not ?
@@mikawelll ah, ok. No, I don't think I've Done anything with that. Have you got Odyssey? Maybe the whole body only shows when you're able to disembark.

I used to play on console but those days are gone. Anybody know a good laptop that can handle this game for long hours? I've decided.....to become a oc gamer!
Well, I'm playing on Lenovo Legion 5 17" with rtx3060 and 32gb RAM and it handles it pretty good most of the time.
I used to as well. In fact my squadron (STWL) was the one who ran Steel Wolves Aegis Tactical so this whole thing makes me sad considering most of them did not make it to PC :(
I’m using an ASUS G513 with Ryzen 7 4800h and RTX3050. It runs 1080p at medium (with some textures at high) at 120fps in space, 70-80 near big spaceports or FCs, 50-60 in stations interiors and a range between 30-70 in settlements. Only downside are crowded conflict zones, where i can get to mid-20fps sometimes.

@foageneral I'm pretty sure you should be able to customise the tag as well (what's after the @)
I would have brought a spare Power Regulator with me, and used it to power up the base, then looted everything (including data) and then reclaimed the PR when I left. Get into the Command centre and deactivate security scans so you don't have to cut through Every. Single. Door.
