The Takumi Sen 8/9 is such a beautiful shoe. The colorways and the shape make it look like a fast shoe, which it is. It's my favorite shoe after the Nike Pegasus Turbo 2. They fill pretty similar niches in both look and function and are much more versatile than a full on marathon super shoe. I've only worn mine three times since I bought it last July cause every time I put these on, I want to run fastttt (that and i have way too many running shoes).
Takumi Sen 8/9 does everything. Raced a 5 k in them, ran my best longrun in them, and the best marathon workout. It goes easily to 30 k longrun, and I am a heavy runner. Its extremely good for gravel road and light trail also.
I agree it takes more doing to get into the Takumi Sen (I have v.8) but I’d call it a “fasten your seatbelts” fit. They feel incredibly secure and nimble once you’re in. I use mine only for racing (5K, 10k, could easily do HM if I didn’t have other options) so it’s not big deal to fuss over putting them on for those rare and special occasions!
I have transitioned to running in barefoot/minimalist shoes and will be running my next 5K in Altra Escalante racers or Xero HFS. I’m still loving my Sen 8’s and may pull them out for a race later in the spring.
@@TheGryphon14i mean vaporfly. when the original vf 4% came out it was on par with hoka's stack height which was tallest among running shoes at the time. now it's normal to hear people say that a certain hoka model is not protective enough for even a half marathon 😂
I absolutely love my Takumi Sen 8s, which I picked up for myself at a steep discount for Christmas ($90). If I can’t find more at that price, I will definitely pick up the 9s for my CP runs and intervals. Great shoes, and good to know that Adidas didn’t charge much from the 8sto 9s!
I got the 8 in the Black Friday sales for $90, and it’s been good so far. I did end up skipping the middle lace holes entirely, which is a bit weird. But that’s how I get the most comfort, as well as strong lockdown.
Awesome review Kofuzi. Couldn't resist the Pulse Mint colourway and snagged a pair for myself. Upper improvements may be subtle but when I fitted on the Sen 8, they felt quite narrow in the arch area versus the Sen 9. May be the same shoe but the subtle tweaks are a solid improvement.
Did you stay in the same size for the v9 as you did for v8? I went half a size down in the v8 and that worked perfectly for me. The extra length helped me in that half size down so just wondering whether I need to do the same for v9 or whether true to size would be better this time around! Thanks 👍
@Nehal Lavey-Khan I stuck to true to size - as I have a wider foot. The subtle tweaks in the Sen 9 just gave me a better feel then the Sen 8. If you could go down a half size in the Sen 8s - I think you could do it again here.
A lot of comments saying the same thing, if the differences between the 8 & 9 are minimal and mainly ascetic, why would you shell out for the 9 when the 8 is available with significant discounts? Now, if only they’d discount the Prime X Strung un the UK…
On the 8’s, I ended up relacing the out-of-box lacing after others noticed Adidas laced them in a strange way. Since then, getting into the shoe has been so much easier.
Like you, I love this shoe. I disagree that it's not an everyday training shoe. It's nothing like the old Takumi ren and sen shoes with and without boost, which were very much racing flats. This new iteration reminds me of a more cushioned version of the old Boston shoe. I've been doing most of my daily miles in the 8s and loving them (especially since Adidas had them on sale for under $80 a pair around Christmas). The only downside is that the upper tears in the mid foot where it attaches to the midsole. The outsole, however, is surprisingly durable compared to how thin it is.
Passed on the Takumi Sen 8 because I found the Pro 3 at an outlet for only $85, which I didn’t know at the time was the deal of the year for me… But I’m constantly reminded by reviewers how good the Takumi Sen is so it’s really just a matter of time 😅
I just tried them both in an Adidas outlet offered below 100 USD, I found the upper of the 9 way roomier, for my admittedly very voluminous foot the 8 was significantly too tight (and yes I checked both had my usual size). Kinda opposite of the Vaporly where v1 fits well while 2 is too snug.
Wow ! I just noticed that the Sen 9 is avaiable for purchase ! And finally, the Adios 7 is also available in my country and in a new fancy coloways ! The Takumi is probably a better shoe but since I loved the Adios 6 and got the Boston 11 ,then I will probably go with the Adios 7 ! I was doing lots of researching to see wich shoe would replace the Adios for me. I tried the Puma Velocity Nitro 2 but I did not like it and it was no near as nimble and fast as the Adios .
Boston 11 shoes feel like a soccer cleat, but one thing is the energy I have left after a run. So I changed the shoe insole(insert) from a asics FFBLAST (tarther shoe) and now the boston 11 is almost a marathon shoe
Just bought these shoes for my birthday and I'm fortunate to have it in a colorway that I like. These shoes are awesome. It makes running fast enjoyable.
“If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” That’s all I had to hear! 😂 Glad I snatched a a second pair, the TME Takumi on sale and currently in the ice chamber.. This shoe is so fast once broken in, and makes track sessions very fun.
This shoe has a better foam and higher stack height than the Adios 2 and 3(Kimetto set marathon wr in the Adios 2) ,and the Nike Zoom Streak(Kipchoge wore zoom streak racing in Berlin with the insoles coming out). Those shoes were marathon shoes a few yrs ago and now the Takumi sen 8 and 9 are only considered 5k/10k racing shoes. Times have def changed
Right, there’s really no reason this can’t be a marathon shoe, I mean people ran in far harsher rides for decades before the max marshmallow cushion trend came around about 5 years ago 😂 Unless, as I fear might be the case… the runners themselves are getting softer too!
Agree 💯%! I've run marathons in Mizuno Elixir and New Balance Revlite foam so anything with 30+ mm of soft foam is a world ahead of how it was 5+ years ago. I'm considering these for a marathon. I ran San Diego in Adios Pro 2, and they felt unstable in the final 15km when the road wasn't flat. This looks like an option for me (I'm 69kg on race day).
Liberate is a lot softer and more flexy than the Takumi Sen 8/9 which is pretty stiff and firm-ish. I felt like I bottomed out in the Liberate but I don’t feel that sensation in the Takumi Sen.
I really like the 8s , cant get these because my 8s have tonnes of life left. The Takumi has more of that natural feel vs the pro 3 (that void up front on the pro really feels off).
Call me crazy but I actually find the 8s usable at easier paces also. The energy rods are not stiff at all & it’s not a firm shoe in anyway. Just so comfy to run in. I only did a few easy miles in them because the outsole is so thin & don’t want to burn through them, but I enjoyed them at a variety of paces
I found it more comfortable to run in the Adios Pro 2 than the Takumi Sen 8. It’s so responsive and stiff, unless you’re going moderate pace I wouldn’t waste mileage running easy.
Great review. I really liked TS8 so much that when it was discounted pre-thanksgiving, I bought 2 additional pairs of TS8 for $76+tax. Mike, like you I do use PUMA Liberate for my track sessions along with TS8. Anyway, I think I am good for entire 2023 for track and 5k racing with what I have. I will probably wait for TS10 as my next purchase.
True to size, the extra space is needed. The shoe is so fast you can’t even tell! I went a half size down in the Adios Pro 2 but true to size in the Takumi. I have narrow feet and I feel like the half size down will hurt in a 5k-Half marathon once they swell up.
Happy Chinese New Year to you, Mike! Love the video, definitely throughout the sections where you give us your thoughts. Appreciate it, truly! By any chance, your video title , what does ⌘D mean?
Cant wait to get my hands on either of the 8 or 9, i use the Adizero Adios 6 & 7 for interval, tempo days, but I would love to get my 1st rod-plate shoe experience with this shoe.
Thanks for a nice review. Is the tongue any longer than on the 8? The 8 is a favorite shoe of mine, but if I'm not careful, the laces near the top end up on the top of my foot instead of on top of the tongue.
I'll def be picking up a pair of these eventually. for the sen 8 the fit in one colorway was awful for me (way too long) but on a whim I got a different colorway and it fit perfectly. great tempo shoe
I hope the takumi sen 10 would upgrade the cushioning, midsole, and available for any type of foot arch (high to medium). Then flexible for slow run(MAF, Zone 2&3) training
The TS9 is the lighter, faster and more agressive, shorter distance pure race shoe, some runners do take it to marathon distance, but they are usually lighter runners that don't need as much cushion, preferring agility and ground-feel. The B12 is pitched toward longer distances, is more versatile, less aggressive and can work well as a more durable training shoe on marathon pace training runs, certainly for those that prefer a firmer ride in a training shoe.
I managed to buy takumi sen 8 super cheap, like 50% sell on Zalando, tomorrow is my first 5k attempt in them. Nice that new one is not much better, now I can safely enyoy them ;) Actually I already have NB more v4 and novablast 3 TR, so all you have recommended :D
I'm guessing this question is in relation to the recent Osaka Marathon 2024 results. I think that, if you are a 2:06 marathoner or similar, the ts10 is an option (as would have been the ts9 and ts8). some people like to run marathons in race flats. in their case, most of my recommendations are probably not relevant.
Have they changed the upper at all? I love the Sen 8 but it causes me a horrible blister on my little toe, it is the only shoe that does this!! I would love the Sen 9 but don't want to buy it if it is exactly the same. If it is the same....what are other, decent alternatives? Mainly for speed work 10k and faster. Thanks.
very disappointed that the mesh upper on my 9s split in both insteps after just 210km/ 4 months of use. adidas rejected my warranty claim giving no more information other than to refer to the t&c of their returns policy. assumption is that their warehouse deemed that i was using the shoe for other than 'running' which is completely incorrect.
Still haven’t tried any adidas shoe, trying the CloudMonster right now. But sorry for this off topic question. If I only had $180 would you get the Nike Invisible 3 or New Balance super comp trainer? I have a wide foot too 😓
Totally understand , and as wider forefoot runner myself; adidas sometimes doesn’t work for me either. I haven’t tried either of the two shoes you ask about but I Would recommend new balance for wider foot runners in general so much better at offering wide options.
Definitely invest in the invincible 3. Those past two models have been gems & crucial for recovery. The ZoomX is very durable and has a lot of pop. I haven’t ran in the SC Trainer but I can argue that the Invincible will last longer. I don’t think it’s very narrow, if anything return it
the direction that Adidas is pushing the Boston makes it easier than ever to distinguish the two shoes. One is a 5k/10k racer that is also a great for marathon workouts. the other is a daily trainer
I don’t like the sen8/9. Maybe Iv been spoiled by shoes with lots of cushion but this shoe really beats up my feet , much rather vaporfly , metaspeed sky or sauconey speed or pro 2 or 3 or even Nike streakfly . Wish adidas shoes worked for me people seem to love them I just don’t think lightstrike pro agrees with me. I way prefer zoomx or powerrun pb or fuelcell
Sorry to hear that! Everyone reacts differently, I own the Takumi, Next % 2, and the Streakfly. Even after 150 miles the Next % 2 can still hold up long runs & steady runs. Not so much on track though, the Streakfly is fun to run threshold reps in but the king of speed is the Takumi Sen 8.
@@chrisvarelabenitez4690 haha fair enough although I completely disagree and say the next % kicks the living crap out of the takumi sen at any distance 🤣
Actually running around with the takumi sen 8 on one foot and the Pegasus Trail for Gore-Tex on the other and the Pegasus Trail for is quite a bit softer and more comfortable. Not to mention being waterproof.
I mite have to give them a second chance I returned before because fit was horrible but they look and feel so good … Streakfly easily wins over them doe…

However, and I want to be as respectful as I can, you're tough to listen to. Your speech, in the manner in which you present, is not fluid. It's very choppy. I've noticed that in many You Tubers. It's like you're all trying too hard to be professional television correspondents. I guarantee you don't speak like that in your normal everyday conversations. Just be natural on camera like you would be when you talk to friends.

Change the shoe insert, that alone will change the feel of the shoe, maybe an FFBLAST shoe insert
@@marceloamador92024is FFBlast an Asics shoe insert? I googled and only got Asics hits. Thx.
Orale!!! Yo whats going on!

Yo, what’s going on!!!
Save the money and get 3 pairs of NB Fresh foam tempo v2 on sale. Ride the same if not better 😂

what's goin on
Y are Asics shoes so ugly??
"It is ain't broke, don't fix it."
They say as they market a ridiculous and entirely unneccsassry shoe to fix a bunch of non-existent problems with natural running, by causing the problems they claim are inherent to running. 🤣

I've watched several of your videos and you provide some very useful data, which is why I keep coming back to your channel.
I don't know what you are talking about. His speech is very fluid, not choppy at all. He is quite correct in his intonation and pauses, maybe a bit too fast sometimes but nothing out of ordinary.
First?
