Adam, my wife and I are of Mexican heritage and Catholics. Our wedding was January 20, 1968 and we hade many of the same traditions/parts to our wedding. Remember the Spaniards concurred Mexico and parts of California as well as the Philippines, we have a lot in common. Our church service was for approximately 650 folks and the dinner/reception was attended by about 1200 people. It is a day in your life that you never forget if you are part of it. You all looked like you enjoyed the day. 😎
Filipino wedding and to the extent most of Hispanic countries followed the Mozarabic ritual / derived from Mozarabic ritual - an ancient sub-variant of Roman Rite native to Spain especially in Toledo. The use of wedding coins (arras), offertory candles, kissing of crucifix, red/white veil, and a cord to bond the couple. I don't know if that is still something your place follow, but I can confirm that majority of Filipino Catholic wedding still follow that ritual.
Thank you so much my friend. A lot of similarities and honestly these types of weddings are so great to be invited to. Feels like one big family coming together 😊
Just subscribed to your channel. Been watching your channel for over a week and I find your narrative and reflection enticing. Your place is so peaceful and relaxing. Enjoy your life in Ormoc City. I might wonder in your place once I finally retire in my homeland. I’ve been retired from the workforce and military for 10 plus years but I made a commitment to help my fellow veterans and or their widows file for their VA benefits.
Thank you so much. Thats such a kind and noble thing you do. Enjoy your retirement when you decide to take it and there is no better place to be than the Philippines. God bless you 😊
Lovely video Adam. I am English and married to a Filipina here in Florida for last 17 yrs and I have to say I could not do what you have done in embracing your wife’s family so well. Yes my wife’s family is mine too but the cultural gap is so wide. I feel for you not having your family with you, it must be so hard but you don’t show it. I lost my brothers and my parents years ago, all I have is my wife and kids here and her family is in Canada. It’s so hard. She is very lucky to have you as a husband. Bless you all.
Thank you my friend. You are right though. I miss my family so very much and hope to see them soon. Jane's family have taken me in, make me feel loved and appreciated. They are also my family now. Its difficult to adjust but not impossible. God bless you 😊
Weddings are very important in Filipino culture. When I attended the wedding of Ormoc City's Vice Mayor's son I knew it was going to be nice, because these people had money. But even when we attended my ex-wife's cousin's wedding, the church was nicely decorated, the women were wearing beautiful gowns and we celebrated at Sals' Restaurant. These were poor people and then I wondered where they suddenly found the money to organise such a nice wedding. It still kind of puzzles me how people who struggle through everyday life can afford to spend so much money on a wedding.
These people may look poor to you, but some people just don't want to look outwardly rich. In a lot of cases, weddings are a clan affair, so relatives contribute what they can.
Big wedding. Lots of guests ~ 200. Reception ~ 400. We did pinned money on my brother's wedding too. Catered lunch, rice and 10 dishes. Everybody well dressed. It's an affair to remember.

@@jboycaceres2871 Yes, traditional Mexican weddings do. We still have our coins, candles and cord (lasso) from our wedding. 😎

So true my friend. No matter the status or wealth, the result is the same. A beautiful ceremony and occasion. Have a great day Paul 😊
