    Yes that would be sufficient, the air handler itself has insulation wrap inside as long as there are no space between the duct board and air handler it should be ok. Thanks for asking.

    Is it normal practice to make registers out of this material?? All but two registers at my house are metal. On those 2, the yellow fibers are exposed when they cut the opening on the main duct. Should the yellow fibers be exposed?? Wondering if some of those fibers might become loose and contaminate things inside house.

    David Jones video have taught me a lot. I was looking for videos about roof mounted hvac ducts. Living in Palm Springs, CA and my duct layout is absolutely WRONG. I want to correct it. 2.5 ton York air with only 3 ducts connected (there are 6 total available) in a 1400 sq. ft. house. 😕 help. Are there videos explaining roof top ducting?

      Dude, think about this. Are you going to install a duct system that a mouse can chew thru and crawl up in and die? Then they'll have to rip out every bit of duct. Dude, get a metal trunkline, and if you cannot afford to hire the guys who'll fabricate your ductwork and make custom fittings for the best airflow, at least buy the cheap ass roundpipe, snap it together, screw and tape it with mastic tape ( it's thick rubber tape with a silver coating covering the outside), and it's thick as hell. If you can't afford THAT, screw it together, get a tub of duct seal, run duct seal over the joint and after it dries, run 3 coats of duct tape around every joint. Fuck ductboard. I did ductwork for 5 years and learned how to fabricate fittings in a sheetmetal shop. Only problem with THAT is guys like this come out and the customer hires their half ass because he's cheaper, ALOT cheaper. He won't tell them how shitty ductboard is, he'll slap it in. Do it right and take pride in the fact you gave the customer metal, and you gave them the best airflow possible, and hire a sheetmetal fab guy. Oh, that's right, he wouldn't want to pay him. Guys like him ruin HVAC and make it NOT a trade or skill anymore. "hehehe, lets slap this ductboard in and make 3 grand". Yea, fucker. Fuck him. Put in metal and use duct seal and you ain't gotta worry about tape coming off. Seriously. Do it right. This dude is a piece of shit. You put this shit in someone's home and you're a fucking asshole, a dishonest asshole out trying to make a dollar.

    I enjoyed your video and thanks for taking the time to make it. On a south florida home w a updraft air handler; using QUIET 1 1/2 board; how do u actually attach the duct board to the top of the air handler? A guy was out here w a V groove paddle & made the square duct. It was only a foot tall till it hit the supply trunk. He just had the 1" vapor barrier flaps foil taped to the top of the air handler. I THINK he put spray adhesive first. He then covered is all in mastic. Is this sufficient?

    Because I was reading the manual that came w the tempstar and it talked about this, it said Secure duct to flange using
    proper fasteners for type of duct used, and seal duct−to−unit. Use flexible, then it said Use flexible connectors between duct work & unit to
    prevent transmission of vibration. Now I know the top of the air handler is only a foot from the ceiling, but is what he did OK ? so, he has spray adhesive under the vapor barrier tabs on top of the handler, then foil tape, then mastic.

    Man, I wish you guys were here at Cape Cod in MA. I pulled out about 2 gallons of water out of my ducts in the attic on my AC system. Water was everywhere from the air handler to the last flex duct. The main duct is metal wrapped with rFoil r-4. That bubble wrap stuff. The attic is a walk in attic that gets up to 100 degrees. The heating system is not a duct system, just AC. I just recently had all the ducts replaced and have never had a problem. The AC system has always been maintained and is working well. Any ideas?

    • @hazzardlobotomy7904
      @hazzardlobotomy7904 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      nld1960 Any bubble wrap alone should never be used in an attic. R8 blanket insulation wrapped metal duct should now be considered minimal for duct in attic. Think about an insulated attic with the now required R50 insulation.
