every time he was around her, she bad mouthed his father putting him in the position of having to choose. steve never did that and so he felt comfortable around his father. no matter what happens in a household, kids LOVE their parents, regardless. this is what happens when one parent talks bad about the other in front of the kids. when they are old enough to make their own choice, they usually choose the house where there's no tension. mary was left with $100,000 so she wasnt using food stamps either and to a child thats millions. money was not a concern in either house while he was growing up. mary just chose to squander it and not use it wisely. and lets not forget she was still living in the marital home so a mortgage wasnt even a concern. what she forgot was her son would eventually grow up and she would lose control of the situation

It doesn't mean that he didn't. People from a couple generation back didn't verbalize love this way. They showed it strongly with their actions.
Nowadays a week they are saying they love each other, the next week, they're probably disowning or divorcing each other.

@2:05 That moment is like he's giving his son his own torch to go out into the world on his own. His son doesn't fully understand how hard that was for Steve but he'll look back and appreciate this. Even though mine is young, I can relate to the milestones.
All fathers should have conversations with their sons. When children become responsible young adults, the conversation still need to continue. They still need emotional support.
I think if all parents had conversations like this with us/kids, this world will be such a better place! Great Job Mr. Harvey❤️ the Conversation. Your son is such a Gentleman. A mother in your corner can do (has done and is doing) the same as you say fathers do - building character and giving a foundation to build a meaningful, productive life. I think there might be a better way of expressing (and separating) the impact of fathers and mothers. I want to fully agree with you, but I can't because I know that mothers are doing this too, and in some cases, in greater and more impactful ways than fathers. Much respect to all active and intentional fathers, though. I do hear what you're trying to say.

Sandra Jefferson don't be so quick to believe a media publicity video from someone who makes an exceptional living and thrives off of USING people, family included, to do it. Hard to believe Steve is an innocent great dad when his son had no relationship with his mother Mary. Even if she had issues, unless they were EXTREME and detrimental to Wynton, she and her son should have had, at the very least, supervised visits. Steve is, and was, influential enough to make this happen. I find it hard to believe he could control every aspect of Wynton's life but left this choice solely up to a young child. Kids are easy prey and easy to brainwash. I pray that Wynton seeks help to heal his relationship with his mother.....dont let fear, material things, celebrity, etc stop this now that you're older....many people (rich and poor, famous and unknown) will support this move...if his dad really loves him he would TRULY encourage it BUT if the wrongs are not made right Wynton's FATHER, their FATHER, will make it right.
