Fantastic video, such a shame we’ve lost so many stations and railway lines over the years. On a plus note good to see some buildings / structures have been saved.

Still mystified that Marples/Beeching closed semi profitable sea side branches but kept the Looe branch with its reversing and steep inclines open? Did someone’s mum live there.

If it hadn't been for the quarry and then the heritage line, Okehampton would have had same fate as other stations on this line.
The Dartmoor Line was the only alternate route to Plymouth & beyond when Dawlish was hit by storms and should be reopened.

How sad to see all those lines long gone, mainly replaced by housing or car parks. Very short sighted policy, as was facing steam out so early.

Yes this is so so sad I wish they were still running trains on there.😢

I enjoyed that very much, thank you. Many of these places are very dear to me, as are the rails that once connected them.
    Subbed.

0:53 I’m glad that bere Alston station has survived the closure but only the platform on the right still operates even the signal box on the left side still stands as it did during the days of steam
But the same cannot be said about the track and the platform on the left side because that’s been taking up and closed

A really nostalgic look at the "withered arm"! I have recently moved to Exeter and I'm trying to catch up on the railway network that once existed. I travelled over much of it in the summer of 1962 when I had a 'Freedom of the West of England' rail rover ticket. If you know where to look this video shows it's still possible to see the old railway infrastructure.

Good news is some old lines cut by Beeching might open again but don't hold your breath

Interesting then and now selection. The last bit about the line from Meldon to Okehampton was particularly poignant for me because the last time I visited was with my late girl-friend. We went on the now-defunct Dartmoor Railway from Okehampton to Meldon Quarry. It was a class 205 DEMU, now gone too! Thanks for uploading.

The cover shot of an un rebuilt appears to be 34058 although the pixel level reproduction of the still shot is not conclusive but during the 1950's was a regular performer Salisbury Exeter Plymouth Ilfracombe from Exmouth Junction shed .
After it's rebuild from 1962 it still performed on Exeter Plymouth Friary and Barnstaple very frew pictures depict this loco which I am sure you will all know is now in the hands of SLL at Sellindge .
The second picture at Brentor also appears to be 34058 but this time in Rebuilt state.
Could you confirm if this is so and could we if it is have pictures for the fund raising drive that is currently going on .
    Thanks Andy
