Yeah, definitely. I agree with you guys, the bar was there but he didn't place himself under it fast enough. He was strong enough to finish. And yeah, it was psychological, and it happens to all of us. There again, he already had the gold...
@Zoidypoo89 There are many powerlifting federations that test their lifters within the US. Beyond that, PLing is even less recgonized in the US than most Olympic sports, including weightlifting. In this case, it is most relevant to compare the US policies to Iran, Russia and China's... since those are the biggest competitors.
i said he looked like he was. its just an observation mate. He was probably just exhausted, but the coach doesn't give him a second to relax or take a breather, and straight away grabs him by the arm and drags him away.
I am american and have been to lots of different countries. I will agree with jgrimsl1 that most of are raw strength talent goes to sports such as football. But I doubt we have the most amazing explosive talent compared to other countries. I think it might be pretty equal. There are amazing strength athletes all over the world.
@Zoidypoo89 I admitted to entertainment athletes partaking in steroids. Drug testing is not as stringent there as it would harm the purpose of the sport: profit. These athletes are not competing on an international stage, and thus the testing policies are much different. When it comes to weightlifting, USA's policies are far stronger than just about any other country's. Mandatory membership with random testing multiple times a year to maintain activity and to compete anywhere.
@Zoidypoo89 I assure you if weightlifting took off in the US, the policies would likely be changed or be conveniently overturned more often in favor of strengthening the performance of the athletes. However, public interest for weightlifting in the US is abysmal compared to 50-60 years go. Football without steroids would be mundane compared to it's current form, so they are allowed for profit's sake. The popularity just isn't there for weightlifting here.
@RedWildz I completely agree, the drug policies for smaller sports are stringent and there is more than enough knowledge and potential to create world class lifter in the U.S... n anyone to say that there isn't genetic potential WELL look at pretty much all other sports that u.s funds well and actually cares about!!! U.S is more than competitive in other sports
he really looks like he isn't enjoying this. the poor guy looks like he can barely move, and the way he is taken away by his coach after the lift looks like he's treated terribly
I seriously doubt he was clean. In the old USSR, doping at the elite level was pretty much essential to handle the sheer volume of training (as a reference, Bulgarians used to train 8 hours a day, 5 or 6 days a week). Which doesn't make the lift any less impressive, of course.
@Zoidypoo89 US athletes are subject to random year round testing even in amateur leagues. Yes, some weightlifting athletes here probably do juice. But none come near a team like the Bulgarians. Note that the grand majority of our entertainment athletes do roid, but that's irrelevant.
If it had been me I would not have missed the jerk. But of course Kuznetsov was only a youngster then and could not really be expected to have the experience of someone like myself...
Abt Drug free ..cant say...but even if he was on dug lifting 243 @ 100 BW is not like eating peace of cake 243 is still elite lift for Super Heavyweights of 2days era
@Zoidypoo89 Well, the aim is to defend the integrity of the US lifters against those who assume they are simply not talented enough to succeed -- or that the Chinese, Iranians and Russians are definitively superior athletes. There are many folks in other countries that truly believe US lifters dine on steroids daily, but that they just "suck."

Well that's your opinion... and most probably because you are an american and have never left your country and seen the culture of other countries. Americans are quick ones to make judgements on how they think the world works without having ever seen it... just my 2 cents.
Just deadlifting that weight is quite impressive itself. That makes this all the more amazing.

gee you can tell he gave everything he possibly had!

Thought he almost had it to. Great effort none the less
i would love to see him posing!

all natural... that was impressive for his weight even though he didn't get it over his head.
@CameronBlaze123 i apologise, i forgot to insert the word "most" before "Americans"
My bad, I'll change it.

See, I wouldn't really like my coach to tell me to relax before attempting a world record, but this might just be me.
@ttofish yeah it's 100
@skirts365 weight lifters are "pro athletes" so that is why they are better at their own sport
The more chance maybe, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will happen.
he really looks like he isn't enjoying this. the poor guy looks like he can barely move, and the way he is taken away by his coach after the lift looks like he's treated terribly
These guys are all natural right? no roids or anything?? because if so that is very impressive :P
damnit man he almost had it too

I can't even deadlift that...
after lift that guy took him like he had committed some crime :-)

@wolfgangle
It's okay, America's been kickin ass and takin names since 1776. We have nothing to prove, if anything get on our level.
If it had been me I would not have missed the jerk. But of course Kuznetsov was only a youngster then and could not really be expected to have the experience of someone like myself...
when you jerk then clean.. that's the way

He couldn't move and still tried to clean and jerk 243 kg, what a hero. And how he was treated terribly?
He's being dragged off to avoid his drugs test
Haha before the days of Rezazadeh.
Конечно,тогда химичились без ограничений...
in soviet russia you dont lift weights, weights lift you !!!
Вот этого Кузнецова оставь на пару месяцев без химии,уверен 140 бы не толкнул

lol you have no clue what your talking about... Europe has always and probably always will be the leaders in weightlifting sports.
