White is the more talented backer; but if Dean is executing well enough for the staff to put their trust in him, then that will do. It sounds like White's injury was a true surprise. So, in "marketing" you promote the Eagles will not miss a beat without White. You don't want to go into a game promoting one of your starting LB will not suit up.

One of my biggest complaints about the eagles in recent years is they always seemed so hesitant to give their young players any meaningful playing time. I get that they value veterans but they tend to draft guys, keep them on the bench for years before either starting them or cutting them without even giving them a shot in real games. If White is just going to be another mediocre linebacker why wouldn’t we want to see more of Dean/Trotter this year to actually get a sense of their abilities?

The more that I see these reports, the more I think that Nakobe Dean and Jeremiah Trotter Jr will eventually be the starting linebackers at some point during the season.
I personally think this is Philly media being Philly media. I think depth chart showed both at lb1 and plan was to rotate the two in situations that play to each ones strengths. Maybe Dean was gonna start and that was due to an opening scheme.

My biggest concern is this defense and will continue to be the defensive likely through the season. LB scares me CB scares me and Safety im 50/50 on i love CJ n The Ghost back there but were old on one side and young as hell on the other/back end

He said a week and a half ago that we shouldn't be surprised if Dean gets more snaps and ends up starting over White. We haven't heard much about White, good or bad, this off-season. I'm surprised everyone is surprised because I thought everyone knew this. The trade thing, that shocked me, but everything else was to be expected. Dean did his part by showing up and the Eagles want him and JTJ to work. They were drafted here. Not White and Baun. Dean just has to stay healthy. If he's just okay at coverage, that's a huge step and we saw that during preseason. Time to show it when it counts.

IMHO the entire defense is unproven with White in or not. Less concerned about the secondary, but the D-Line and LBs will need to show up and play. Fangio obviously is an experienced coordinator, but his approach his rather passive. Defensive play calling therefore could be another factor. Offense might have to score big which they have all the weapons to do. GO EAGLES!!!
I'm sorry but if Dean is the starter we are in trouble this year... he is a smart player but isn't starting material. Lack of size between Dean and trotter and lack of experience for all other LBs besides white is a bad combination. It will be easy work for good quarterbacks to pick them apart...

This is the problem with the 3-4. You want to rely on mediocre LB’s on our squad. A 4-3 would’ve been the better move to cover up for that.
