The reaction when Vi and Cait were face to face was hilarious. My reaction was the same when Jinx released the smoke. The song playing during it is incredible. Young Viktor met the shimmer doctor before we saw him working with Silco. Both of your reactions are great. The show does cram a lot in and moves at a decent pace, but I'm glad they don't drag things out too much.

From my very amateur diagnosis Powder/Jinx has severe PTSD, Psychosis with both auditory and visual hallucinations, bipolar and multiple personality disorder (struggling between the sweet Powder and the psychotic Jinx)
The saddest line in all show:
"Are you real?"
Severe borderline disorder (the constant, pathological feeling of abandonment and isolation) can lead to hallucinations. And she dealing with for years.
Jinx isn't a split personality (alternative personalities can't remember what another do), she is still Powder. But Jinx name symbolize the acceptance of her issues, someone that spoil everything but learned to use this curse against the world. She don't want to care about or fight against destiny anymore.
Milena - I don`t think that any episode will be as 3rd one for me.

Best way to explain shimmer and why it's sometimes bad, sometimes good, is as follows;
What is the difference between a drug and medicine? The dose.
In small amounts it can heal, but using it in larger doses turns you into an addict like those vagrants in this episode.

Vi slowly realizing jinx isn’t mentally stable is heartbreaking
She was already very mentally unstable in the first act, she's just completely unhinged in act 2 & 3. Barely a sign of the sweet, shy kid Vi saw her as
That’s the problem, Powder was already unstable but nobody in the undercity had the capacity to deal with that, she was one in hundreds… that’s how people end up like Silco, the whole system is constantly failing them.
@@biazacha Yeah. They teased this already in episode 1 in the intro where you can see the typical Jinx effects during the explosions and on the enforcers. When Vi leaves Powder behind when they go to rescue Vandor she also has this super unstable tantrum, which was a major red flag that showed her codependency on Vi. And later when Vi and Caitlyn are on the bed and Vi tells the story about the monsters that she had to shoo away, it suddenly makes also way more sense how Powder got scared for real, because she probably started to literally see those monsters. Similar to how in the last episode all those ghosts of the past became monsters that haunt her when Vi tries to bring them up, making things even worse for her mental state. Powder also mentions that she wants Vi to make Caitlyn go away, because to her she's also a monster.
It's actually a fairly accurate depiction of a severe untreated psychosis.

But when he learned she was alive, he still didn’t tell her, so he did lie by omission at some point. He tried finding and killing her sister behind her back.

19:30 It's not even a necklace. The woman, Vi steal the jacket from has that same necklace looking strap. But the gun Caitlyn trades, is the most precious object of her life. In episode 2, they show a portrait of Kiramman family and little Caitlyn's holding a gun and it's the same gun she trades and that's also the same gun she used when she was practising with Grayson. That means she did sacrifice the most precious thing she had, to make sure Vi's safe symoblizing Caitlyn's love towards Vi.
But the thing is... it's a little TOO MUCH. They've known each other for what, a day ? It's way too fast, that's why people find it extreme.

Okay sure... The rifle has sentimental value. But it's a potion shop. She just needed to give something valuable. Caitlyn not having money, some jewelry trinket, etc... It has to be the weapon? That's what's unrealistic about it.
@@KeijiMaeda86 What would somebody living in a place like that find valuable? What use would jewelry/money be? Weapons are what would be the most useful. I do think it would have been better to show her try a couple of things and having them rejected before offering her gun, just to emphasize that point. But I just don't think topside valuables would have been of interest to the potion lady.
@@kenjutsukata1o1 Yo I'm late af, but I think Caitlyn had already played her hand just by being there. She had to give what the salesperson thought was her most valuable possession. If she offered jewelry or something, the lady would probably demand that as well as the gun. The gun was the easiest and quickest way to make sure she didn't get punked

I think it's meant to be gunsmoke, but damn, I like that.
The blue smokes is a nod to episode 3, when she was falling and all she could see was the pretty blue smoke from the hextech explosions. In the game she also has pink bullets and people are speculating when those will be relevant.
Does blue tattoos has no meaning behind them because the champion was made 2 years before they even thought about this series

@@TheTororist It's implied, given the color of the flowers, and how much Singed wants the mutation - not rio - to survive that Rio is the base of developping Shimmer.
In EP3 - so years later from when Singed started working on Rio -, you can see in Silco's hiding spot that there is artificial muscles pumping shimmer into vials.
Also, Rio shows the same markings and dark veins that Shimmer users shows.
Basically, Rio is the base for Shimmer.

You have the scene in the lab with Viktor backwards. He asks Viktor if he looks different because he looks BETTER and is standing straight up rather than at a hunch with his cane next to him. He's commenting about the fact he can see Viktor has already used the Hexcore with himself to a certain extent.

Your reaction to THAT scene when Jinx light it up was exactly how I felt... My heart just fell apart. Starting from Vi and Silco's dialogue, then Jinx's moment, until eventually the music subsides (phenomenal choice of music and lyrics).... I just have no words. It's too beautiful in the saddest way possible.
Professor Heimerdibger is talking about the Rune Wars many years ago. The Runes are little arcane objects that contain so much magical power and can be really really dangerous. There is a nation that doesn't allow mages at all. You are born that way? you get incarcerated. It's unffair. Just to show you how deadly it was and the fear it caused in many places. And if I'm correct Viktor basically created a prototype of an artificial one, we don't know if it's going to play the same but that's why Heimer is so scared.
Problem is he is being really vague about it. You should see the Call of Power cinematic, it is about those wars.
Well the rune wars were about the World Runes, not just regular runes.

It's so great that she would give up something that was so precious to her in that gun to try to save Vi. Such a great scene
There's a lot of symbolism in Cait's gun. The beginning of episode 5 starts with Grayson asking Cait what she's shooting for(or to protect). The first time we see Cait using her gun is to save Vi, and then later trades in her most valued and skilled possession to save Vi.

The coolest (and simultaniously funniest...?) part of the montage I think is when Silco has a moment, and then starts beating the crap out of one of his subordinates. Never before has some much gone wrong in his life all at once, and I really appreciate how the animators captured his emotions this expressively.
It kind of reminds me of when Kylo Ren (Star Wars if you've seen it), starts going ballistic on machinery and consoles with his light saber and 2 storm troopers just walk away xD

Although I really hope the guy was able to make it out in time, I don't think we're gonna see him in the following season(s), so yeah, I can see the writers just ending his addictive misery, for good (to be honest the life he's living right now isn't really a life [if you get what I'm saying] )
Heimerdinger didnt say it could destroy cities, he said nations. And he wasnt exaggerating. There is literally a nation sized crater in the middle of Runeterra from the rune war.

The music when Jinx lights up her becon (Woodkids Gun's for hire) is so good and fits so well in that scene. I got super emotional as well the first time I saw it. Amazing! :)

Shimmer in small amount can heal. You can see this at Silco with his eye injection. So Vi got a healing potion. And the reason why Cait was looking in her eyes were mostly to see Vi's eye color turning back to normal, to be sure she didnt get too much shimmer. But yea, I know they are not "friends". Still at this point she wasnt flirting yet

Shimmer is like any strong drug doctors use, most of them have really bad side effects and are dangerous in higher amounts but they save people in really bad situations.
I think its good too look at shimmer as a chemical that can open the body to change. What change and in what way depends on how the chemical is used and in what dosage.
@@raymax_1071 Okay that's bit overboard. I get the comparison but it's not like drugs do what Shimmer does to people xD Shimmer is not real and majority of drugs are tested and totally safe unless you overdose. And not all get side effects
While that kind of makes sense, it's also worth mentioning that shimmer is kind of a biological "explain it all" magic.
No amount of drugs of any kind can save you from a stab if you don't get some kind of physical treatment (stitches and bandages and surgery)
I think Silco and Jinx''s relationship is fascinating. What I think a good parental figure would have done is, once finding out Vi was back, to understand that Vi and Jinx needed each other, needed to be in each other's life in some way. But Silco, of course, being responsible for it/trying to get rid of Vi, kinda did the opposite. It would have taken time to reunite, to heal, but clearly there is still much love between them still. I do not think trying to keep them separate and lying about intentions was helpful to anyone at all in this situation at all.
Yeah if Silco was actually trying to help Powder, and he had any real faith in Powder and his relationship with her, he would have let them meet. But Silco's primary motivation is simply not losing Powder regardless of whether thats good for her or not. So he does everything he can to keep the split apart. To make sure he remains the only person in her life.

To paraphrase a comment I saw on a different reaction: Vander was the father Vi, Powder, etc. needed. Caring about them genuinely but willing to call them out on their mistakes to help them become better more rounded people. Silco is the father Powder/Jinx wants, but doesn't need. He loves her unconditionally, unlike Vander he will love her regardless of what she does or acts like and never reprimand her beyond a surface level. When push comes to shove he'll choose Jinx even if it's bad for both him and her. In his eyes Jinx doesn't need to change at all because as he's said before, Jinx is "perfect". Very tempting for someone who struggled with abandonment issues, not feeling good enough, messing things up and told she wasn't good enough.
If Jinx is "perfect" then there's no need to tell her about Vi, because Jinx doesn't need her. In fact it could "hurt" her. Jinx was made because of Powder's trauma, Jinx is trying to get away from the past, but can't with the voices, triggers, etc. Vi doesn't care about Jinx, only Powder. She doesn't know anything about Jinx as a person, (how could she locked up in prison?) only the person she used to be from a past she doesn't want to think about, can't escape, but desperately wants to. Silco is the only person who cares about Jinx and not Powder, the person she is now over the person she was and doesn't want to (and arguably can't) be anymore.
It's a mirror of her relationship with Vander. Vi will and can only love her conditionally, the condition that she be Powder. Silco won't, he'll accept her without her having to change at all, even if she'd be more stable mentally, resolve her trauma and slowly improve her life if she went with Vi. That's hard and not what Jinx seemingly wants. At least not while Caitlyn is there to "replace" Powder.
@@beyondviolet Eh, considering he has no issues with either sending her out into lethal combat situations to murder people for him, or in sending the mentally ill child to sit alone in her room situated above a bottomless pit where she plays with explosives while the dolls of her victims endlessly torment her. He's remarkably cavalier about both her physical and mental health any other time.
It seems much more likely he's only concerned about letting Vi and Powder see each other because Vi's the last person alive that Powder could connect with besides himself and he knows it. His one line about wanting to protect her was confirmed by the show writers to be a manipulation and he was intentionally and knowingly lying in that moment. He's possessive of her because of his own abandonment issues and his desperate need to maintain that possession is what seems to drive him.
@@troikas3353 Silco does that because he knows Jinx needs to feel useful and trusted (plus her room is perfect for testing bombs). In his mind, Powder was weak (comparing her to his past self) and this version of her is not. Obviously there’s a selfish part of him that wants her all to himself (plenty of irl parents are like that), but it’s very clear that he cares for her and wants what he believes is best for her.

Amazing how the show builds up the tension and emotions, and then the flare goes off with the song... Emotion overload! Remember when I saw it the first time, I could not even define what I was feeling or why I felt it... It was just raw emotions
I have absolutely been "hug a pillow", and "covered in a blanket" levels of upset. This show makes me cry consistently, but as good as this show is, I can honestly say I have never hit "pillow on my head" levels of distress. 😅🤣
Since you liked the flare scene so much, here's something cool I heard about Jinx
- Her tattoos are of blue puffy clouds or smoke, meaning she always longed for that moment that she might use the flare and her sister would show up..
I'm not entirely sure if that's true because I know absolutely nothing about League of Legends, and I saw a couple other comments discrediting it. But I kinda hope it is.
I just finished the show a few days ago and I've been going down the rabbit hole with videos about it nonstop since that final episode... truly the best show I've ever seen

oh and just a little heart melting fact is that: the tattoo of Jinx are bunch of blue clouds. It might showed her nature of always living in somekind of a vivid way and couldnt control her emotions/mood and worse that it dictates her actions too, but also the longing for Vi, her life is her sister. She always believed the day Vi will return and it also showed the deep love between the two.
And again, the series not only made Jinx believe in Vi's promise, but to us too. It's just too injustice if Vi didnt show up since it's a promise (valuable lesssons for parents too, dont make promises you cant do and watch out for blue smoke (lol jk)). The Jinx's scene holding the flare with her dear life, putting it as HIGH as possible, the agony, sadness and fear (Milo and Claggor by her shoulder), she was trying so so hard to put them away and keep her hopes up (after all those years, yet she still believe a promise made years ago, it hit so hard like that, cause it's relatable), when she heard about Vi, she becomes LITTLE POWDER again, no matter what.

I really feel bad for Mylo and Claggor. In that scene, Mylo screams as if suffering in agony, just like how he died. While Claggor was silent, just like how he died instantly.

Yeah. You're right. The scientist - Singed - is the same you see in the first Arc working with Silco. He developped the mutation through Rio to generate Shimmer. In EP3 you see weird organs pumping shimmer in tubes. I'm pretty sure it's artificial organs made to create shimmer through what he learned with Rio.
It's an interesting link between him and Viktor...

Heimerdinger founded the city 200 years ago. It has been on the Council for 200 years. He was never concerned about the inequality between Zaun and Piltover. He definitely deserved what he got.

It's not really a split personality disorder, Powder has a severe psychosis. That's why she asked if Vi was real. At the end she probably wasn't sure if she just imagined the whole thing when she was all alone there.
That torch lighting scene hit me like a train. I knew it was bound to happen sometime but it didn’t matter, it still destroyed me lol. Brilliantly done. Get ready for Act3. The strongest one of all.
so the bald guy that experiments on these shiny purple plants with young viktor is the doctor/scientist silco was working with on the first eps, sharing a backstory for viktor and bald doctor (Singe)
Jinx made peace with her past through the water, much like Silco did. However, she still has something to hold her back in her past, while Silco did not, as far as we can tell.
I dislike this notion of "she's still in there". Of course she is. She's in there, under 7 years or so of lived experiences from another place. Anyone who does not respect what time has done does not care for the person she is, just the memory of who she was, and focusing on that is disrespectful to her current self and can't change who she has become in the intervening years.

When I saw the ep for the first time, the scene of Powder lighting the flare also touched me a lot more than the encounter for some reason...
They did an amazing job on that sequence of events.
