I must admit this here, I used to listen to hindavi and Urdu music way back when I was in school, now everything has changed. my taste in music is more diverse and my life feels emptier by the day and I've been fighting with depression silently, but all Sufi qawwalis among other things give a beautiful outlet for me to listen and let it hit me and to cry, it really relieves so much of what has been bugging me

Anyway, the first time I heard this qawaali was in the film Junoon, where there is a short version as the film starts. I spent long years searching but never found a soundtrack of the film with it. A kind providence, however, ensured that I heard a better version…. the one by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and that too live. As I have already said, these are things more to be heard then to be written about, but till then read the lyrics and try to imagine it in qawaali form…. As I said, the qawaali is by the incomparable Amir Khusro and it so deftly stitches the threads of various cultures into a syncretic whole that was what the Indian subcontinent’s composite culture was all about. No you or me, but just oneness... Later Amir Khusrow adapted it and gave it a Qawali form and dedicated it to his Peer It is beautiful both ways.. What matters is the devotion we have in our hearts for the Lord..
Rang has its special significance in Qawwali, any Qawwal worth the salt has tried Rang, Nusrat, munshi raziuddin, bahauddin, jaffer badayuni, sabri bros, none stirred soul like Nusrat, specially the part where he starts calling upon all aulias, Baba fariduddin, bakhtiyar kaki, nizamuddin, data ganj. Though it's not part of original rang, but Nusrat brings you close to these scholars and mystics. In short there is nothing like Nusrats Rang.
Khusro & Nusrat do not need my words of praise, I am crawling here on this Earth, they are STARS in skies. However, this mortal soul can always make a wish. I wish I could have seen Nusrat singing this, I guess we the wretched ones have to accept what we get.

First I heard that qawali in th eopening of drama "Ullu Baraaye Farokht Nahi" and loved this tone. that is Sahir Ali Bhagga's version which also has great composition. Glad to find this original version here!
I wonder who set the melody to this qawwalli. So haunting, enticing and mesmerising. One truly could get lost in the devotion of the divine. Very sweet indeed. No wonder the divine really tastes sweet to soul of the devotee. Just love it.

There are great sufi singers and then there is Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Ustad Sahab is head and shoulders above the rest of singers.

Anyway, the first time I heard this qawaali was in the film Junoon, where there is a short version as the film starts. I spent long years searching but never found a soundtrack of the film with it. A kind providence, however, ensured that I heard a better version…. the one by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and that too live. As I have already said, these are things more to be heard then to be written about, but till then read the lyrics and try to imagine it in qawaali form….
As I said, the qawaali is by the incomparable Amir Khusro and it so deftly stitches the threads of various cultures into a syncretic whole that was what the Indian subcontinent’s composite culture was all about. Read it and see for yourself…

Though it's not part of original rang, but Nusrat brings you close to these scholars and mystics. In short there is nothing like Nusrats Rang.

First I heard that qawali in th eopening of drama "Ullu Baraaye Farokht Nahi" and loved this tone. that is Sahir Ali Bhagga's version which also has great composition. Glad to find this original version here!
I wonder who set the melody to this qawwalli. So haunting, enticing and mesmerising. One truly could get lost in the devotion of the divine. Very sweet indeed. No wonder the divine really tastes sweet to soul of the devotee. Just love it.
