Born on 23 December 1976, Amjad began learning qawwali music from his father at age nine and joined his father on stage to perform in 1988 at age 12. His father trained him in Raag Bhairon, which is practiced in early morning. For this training Sabri had to get out of bed in the mid night, then after performing tahajjud (a midnight prayer) practised the baja.[4] Sabri presented the work of his family and travelled widely to India, America and Europe where he was known as the "rock star" of qawwali.[5] From then on he remained one of the most acclaimed qawwali singers on the Indian subcontinent and performed around the world. The Coke studio has surely created magic by two songs, has raised the bar much higher, one is Chhap tilak by Abida parveen and RFAK, and the other is this one, Rang. It is extremely sad that Mr. Amzad Jafri ,the singer of this masterpiece was shot dead in broad daylight.....but it is even heartening that in such hostile environment ,the Pakistani musicians are churning out the numbers like this one. Our Indian film music, except Rahman and Amit trivedi, and Sanjay Bhansali.....everyone is following the wrong line. I don't care about my compatriots who dislike this song and my comment. “Rung” here refers to the Noor (light, splendour) and Faiz(grace) of Khwaja Nizamuddin Aulia. The Qawalli is written by Hazrat Amir Khusrau in his trademark Hindavi/Braj language. The story in the song goes thus:- When Khusrau came back from the dargah of Khwaja, he told his mother that the place was so unique that it almost took his breath away. He has wandered the length and breadth of the country and even foreign lands, but has never been able to come across any place which could give him so much happiness and peace.
But if you hear this in Nusrat fateh ali khan voice that was natural sung by The great Nusrat the original one ... They just mixed and made it fast and there is no feeling ..... as original have ...
Rehman Ali i listened to the version sung by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Both NFAK and RFAK gave amazing performances. It was RFAK's version of Rang that led me to discover the beautiful art of Qawwali. 😀
Mind blowing concert , So far I was fan of Rahat Fateh Ali for filmy music as well as classical singing but today came to know there is one more precious Diamond in field of Singing Mr.Amjad Sabri, who has won my heart really Amjad Sabri you are one of Nageena in this field. It's not comparison, it may sound so. But Old Sufi kalam has a lot of symbolism. You gotta read Sufism and it's symbolism to understand. Not that I am an expert but Sufism discourages and condemns bringing down any faith . Infact it promotes the idea of finding God within yourself, in your own way. No way is the wrong way if its not hurting any other soul.

After watching this performance daily, what I just noticed is that Rahat has lyrics in front of him, which he refers to sing. Amjad refers to no lyrics, but sings from memory. That fact is telling.
Thanks. I saw Rahat in concert about a month ago in New Jersey. He sounds great no matter what he sings. Definitely a great performer. He relied upon lyrics during his concert too.

The Coke studio has surely created magic by two songs, has raised the bar much higher, one is Chhap tilak by Abida parveen and RFAK, and the other is this one, Rang. It is extremely sad that Mr. Amzad Jafri ,the singer of this masterpiece was shot dead in broad daylight.....but it is even heartening that in such hostile environment ,the Pakistani musicians are churning out the numbers like this one. Our Indian film music, except Rahman and Amit trivedi, and Sanjay Bhansali.....everyone is following the wrong line.

It's not comparison, it may sound so. But Old Sufi kalam has a lot of symbolism. You gotta read Sufism and it's symbolism to understand. Not that I am an expert but Sufism discourages and condemns bringing down any faith . Infact it promotes the idea of finding God within yourself, in your own way. No way is the wrong way if its not hurting any other soul.

What a range. What a texture. Look a the change in the Chord At 0.20 - 0.27 . The Sudden Change in the tune from 1.46 -1.52 by Rahat Ji. And of course i cannot specify any particular time in the song were Mr Amjad Sabri Did not Mesmerize me. Treat to Listen.
