Love the Jackaby series. Have them in hardcover. Starting off, it's a lot like The Raven Boys as the author sets the scene and introduces you to the characters. Then, the rest of the books remind me of Lockwood and Co. book series or tv show.
I totally get that, but there is only so much time and far too many books that interest me so I need to take cues from somewhere. I know goodreads is far from perfect but it can be a useful tool in weeding out stuff that’s just not worth it 😁 if something interests me enough though I will still try it, or if I get a personal recommendation from someone I know who knows my taste. Otherwise I do find goodreads helpful 👍
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is SO good!! Really wish Holly Black would write a sequel for that, because it's such a great story. She writes vampires the same way she writes fae-wicked and deadly. Cannot believe you have the hardcover for that and haven't read it yet haha. Read it! 🖤
Oh, I agree about cover changes so much. That's rude and weird. One of our publishers in Ukraine just randomly decided to make all of their books taller, for some special publishing house esthetics or something, so they started with Shelby Mahurin's series (where Serpent & Dove is the first) and while the first one was smaller, next two were published like two big bros next to her 😑. Oh, and they also announced, they they'll republish the first one with new size too and we were like - and what should we do with the first? Anyway, after some thoughts I've calmed down and decided that's not a tragedy, and I'll donate my copy to one of the libraries in deoccupied territories of my country.
I definitely need to unhaul The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller, This Woven Kingdom by Tahereh Mafi and A Magic Steeped in Poison by Judy I Lin. All of them were disappointing reads sadly 😢
Oh no! I have two of those on my tbr 🫣 I’m waiting for the This Woven Kingdom series to be finished before starting it, and I was also interested in a Magic Steeped in Poison, though I haven’t heard good things about the second one
With Jackaby, honestly..it wasn't for me. While I enjoyed the first one I just never wanted to pick up the next, sooo I gave up. Even despite the fact that audio version was real good.🤷🏻♀️ I've recently unhauled and/or sold so many books, that I won't be able to name a lot. But, for example, I sold The Kingkiller's chronicles because I now have an edition in Ukrainian, my native language and I don't want r*ssian copy sitting on my shelves, because I'll never read them in r*ssian. Same happened with Jonathan Safran Foer's books, I want edition in Ukrainian or English. Also I sold a lot of books that I didn't enjoy. So yeah. I'm with you on unhauling business.🫡

I’ve learned that I don’t always agree with good reads reviews and love to try for myself a story.
