Create a small hole *creates not so small of a hole* jokes aside, thank you. I saw a seed pack of Salvias in the grocery store and I want to plant some. Thank you for the tutorial! 💖
Excellent video!! I’m planting Blue Bedder salvia, I hope the color is bright & vibrant. Can you plant 2 or 3 seedlings together in a 4” pot? Thank you for your video. 💕
Hi Don. Thank you for your appreciation. You can start the seedlings in a pot but more than one full size plant in a pot will grow but they will hinder each other.
Greetings from the US! Salvia was one of my favorite additions to my garden last year! When you transplant into the ground, do you water the salvia again afterwards, and do you use any fertilizers or food?
Hello! I watered the Salvias as soon as they were planted in the ground. Also twice a week if there had been no rain. I didnt use fertilisers or food and my soil is pretty poor so they are quite hardy. However some fertiliser may give you improved growth/ flowering.
Neither but you can if needed. I grow mine until they germinate in a spare room in my house which is south facing and heated to 21 degC. Greetings from UK to beautiful Switzerland.
I'm trying to grow Salvia glutinosa from seeds, they arrived with no instructions and there's very little information online. Anyone have any tips? Both tray and Direct sowing without covering haven't worked so far (zero growth).
You can but I prefer to start mine indoors to get the plants to a good size before planting out. They are then strong enough to resist pests. Keep safe.
Hi there! (Wish I knew your first name to be able to address you more kindly.) I've just received my salvia seeds, and of course I came right to your channel to see what you might have in the way of videos. This is perfect, but I do have one question. I've noticed in a few other videos that Salvia need light to germinate. This point is typically made with quite a bit of importance, followed by "Don't cover the seeds with the medium, but be sure they are making good contact with the surface." I noticed that you covered yours with your compost, but I also see that they germinated quite well, so I just wondered if you had any thoughts on this discrepancy. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I'll await your reply before getting started.
The instructions on my seed packet said to lightly cover them with compost. Mine grew perfectly but I have seen instructions that say dont cover them....maybe it changes with the variety. Maybe to be on the safe side plant 2 lots - one covered and the other not. Keep safe.
Could you potentially smoke this like that crazy guy on TH-cam did ? And get that extreme of a high ? Or is it only a certain type of salvia that does that cause if all salvia does that ... then you’ve got powerful stuff growing in your garden .
also to accurately answering your question, salvia splendens does not contain salvinorin-a/b, the hallucinogenic compound in salvia divinorum you mentioned. But ive seen papers that salvia splendens contains a compound with a similar structure to salvinorin-a/b called splenedin. The papers i saw said its potentially mild psychoactive, but more studies are needed. As its a diterpene like salvinorin, smoking could be a less efficient type of consuming, you probably should eat the leaves and keep them in your mouth. But im not recommending consuming any "psychoactive plants" tldr: yes, you could probably smoke it with zero to mild effects.
Sanchria yeah , again , shit too pricy I mean I liked it because while I was in a shitty location it served as an escape , but I’m no longer there so ,
Hi Lorraine. You are correct, generally the planting distance is 30cm in all directions. However I have checked the seed packet for the variety I grew and the recommended distance is 23cm. Keep safe.

Thank you! Salvia are my favorite plants because they bloom from spring to fall. Now I can fill my garden much faster
You are so welcome. Your garden will be beautiful! Keep safe.

Great video and very helpful.
Thank you Bella for your appreciation.
Thank you very nicely explained great video 👍🏻
Hi Farah. Thank you for your appreciation. Keep safe.
Can I start this in the spring? Or is it too late?
by "keep warm" what temps are we talking?
Can I leave the seedlings (once they have germinated) in an unheated greenhouse?
Keep above 10 degC
I planted 20 one come up :D Now I doing exactly like you.
The 3 important things for germination are warm temperature, moisture and quality seeds. Dont give up!
How many days from seed to planting outside. Mine seem to be very slow growing!
Hi there, when do I start this process in uk? Found the video very useful. Thank you.
It is best to start early spring. Keep safe.
How many flower heads do you get per seed/plant? I have grown a lot, and wondering if I should plant out in clumps or as single plants?
Its 6 or more Sarah. Keep safe.
Very good video
Hi Keith. Thanks for your appreciation. Keep safe.
Should I use vermicompost for seed germination?
I believe you can but I have never tried it. Keep safe.
Great VID
Thanks Erika! Keep safe.
How much time passed between steps 3 and 4.
What is your potting mix?
I use general purpose compost.
Can you get the plants to grow the following year, just from watering the seeds they drop? I do that with marigolds.
I am not sure if the plants are reliable as self-sowers.
Do they grow bushier?
Hi Ollie. The variety I grew did not much more bushier than shown in the video. Keep safe.
Thank you

Thank you for guiding us to a Starter Tray. It's all good.
Does it make much of a difference if you dont use a lid for the propagator tray?
The lid keeps the heat and moisture inside. Use some plastic kitchen film or place a sheet of glass on top if you dont have a lid. Keep safe.
Do we have to cover the container with a lid ?
Hi Abdulla. If you mean cover the seed tray - yes cover with a lid or thin plastic film until the seeds begin to grow then take it off.
LearnHow2 Yes I understand but is it necessary?
How many days they generally take to germinate if temp is between 20-25 degree in night
Generally between 7 to 21 days.

What happens in winter. Do I need to collect the seeds and replant next year?
Hi Dale. I have never collected seeds but just buy new ones and replant next year. Keep safe.
hi, do u use grow lights or heat mat with your seedlings? greetings from Switzerland
Neither but you can if needed. I grow mine until they germinate in a spare room in my house which is south facing and heated to 21 degC.

Which state are these seeds being germinated in?
I am in the UK. Keep safe.
Are these perennial or annual salvias. I'm interested in starting perennials, zone 5+/-. TY.
The type shown in the video is called 'Blaze of Fire' and is a perennial.
Is there a need to bury with a thin layer of soil?😅
I read that they needed light to germinate😅
Some varieties need light so if in doubt do not cover. Keep safe.
Hi, I have just collected seed from my beautiful blue salvia (Sept 20th), Can I sow straight away or should I wait until January?
Hi Derek. Keep them in a cool, dry, dark place and wait until January. Good luck with your growing and keep safe.
So they bloom the first year? I think I had confused them with another plant that bloomed the 2nd year.
Yes they bloomed first year. Keep safe.

they jusy look beautiful..may I know, are they perennial?
Hi Andrew. Yes they are perennial.
After covering the seeds do I have to keep them in sunlight?? I
Hi Juanna. Keep them in a warm bright place but I would not advise direct sunlight as the soil could over heat or dry out.
Many seeds need warmth and moisture and darkness-UNTIL the leaves emerge, then remove warmth and blast the sun. But look them up to be certain.
Hi, what soil did you use in this?
Hi Angelica. I used 'Humax' compost. Keep safe.
Can't we directly sow the seeds in the garden?
You can but I prefer to start mine indoors to get the plants to a good size before planting out. They are then strong enough to resist pests. Keep safe.

12 to 16 weeks.
