  • Parallel Parking in a tight space is definitely one of the most nerve wracking things you can do whilst learning to drive and even once you've passed your driving test. Whether it's the fear of hitting another car whilst parallel parking, hitting the kerb or embarrassing yourself there are definitely ways to help!
In this parallel parking tutorial I will be keeping it as short and condensed as I can so that you can feel more comfortable behind the wheel of your car, whether it is a hatchback or SUV. It's no worries whether it's from the UK, US or around the world too as these tips can be applied to any country and driving style!

A couple of tips I've picked up, when turning in, wait until you see the car behind in the mirror that is on the outside of the space(as in closest to the middle of the road), then apply opposite lock, you should slide into the space easily. also, when parking near shops, use the shop windows as mirrors so you can see exactly how much room you have.

That’s still not very tight .... could you do a video on real life right parking spots with two cars and show when to straighten out and if to turn the wheel once or all the way

Do same thing and when you are getting to close to back car stop, full lock left 1st gear as far as you can stop reverse full lock right as far as you can... repeat till ur in. Or just find another spot

If you live in a city where there are only apartments you really have no choice. In NYC almost every resident parks on the street because private free parking spaces simply don't exist.

Where I work there's not many alternatives, either you parallel park or leave the car on the next block. Fortunately I work at night so getting my car damaged is not a huge concern for me because the street is almost empty

    Err ' hello lads'!? 🤣
I can parallel park in a space as big as the one in this video, but I live in a fairly narrow road with cars parked either side, so to turn left hand hand down 45° angle means I'm very close to parked car opposite my house. Could I lessen the angle and still reverse ok??
If not maybe I'll get a f*****g bike, but I'm )in my head) a young 72 so my knees would probably collapse!! 🙄😂

If the parking traffic is busy, i.e there are many drivers behind, I suggest you practice a technique which is different from the standard one. I have seen some drivers use this technique to secure their chosen spot.
Assuming that you have justified the parking space is sufficient, secure it by entering into the space with the front first; by doing this drivers behind understand that you will park in that space. At this moment you can let drivers behind pass. As the traffic is clear, you continue by exiting the space in an angle such that your car's rear body (trunk) is already inside the space, whereas your car's front body is outside the space. The angle is about 45 degree.
At this moment, you should be in the middle phases of standard technique; hence the remaining steps are practically the same as found in the standard technique.
It needs practice, but if you have mastered the standard technique, I think you can do it.

That's not tight! My road is very narrow with cars parked both sides so can't get a 45° angles as the front end will swing out and touch cars the opposite side of the road. I have to start pulling alongside the car I'm parking behind with the wing mirrors almost touching and getting a 30° angle with lots of wiggling. Nightmare.

This isn't a good example. Parallel parking with space is easy, and parallel parking with no car behind -- or in front, it's literally a piece of cake. The difficult part is to get it done on the first try in a tight-spot, with a car behind you and a car in front and against the curb. This isn't very helpful.
