Good for you for recognizing that Gracie will be more at ease eating in another room. A good trainer once told me that we are our dog’s voice. Kudos to you!! I’d love to hear your ideas/tricks/tips to senior dog care. I have a nearly 16 year old aussie - not looking forward to Pennsylvania winters!
I had to cut the video a bit short so I was rushed, I also put Gracie in a separate room because she is really uncomfortable around my step dad. So if he comes around unexpectedly that will really set her off! Their relationship is a work in progress...a looooong work in progress haha. Oh man, winters with seniors....we've got a couple senior Chihuahuas- they HATE going outside in the winter now. We shovel a lot of snow in our backyard so that they have a clear pathway to walk to make it easier. On days I'm not feeling too lazy, I'll carry them to our garage and let them out from there (otherwise they go out our kitchen door and have lots of stairs to go down to get to the grass). And then of course we've got puppy pads out 24/7. If we've had a lot of snow that winter we'll throw hay down too, but your Aussie might not be as big of a baby as our little guys!
Thank you so much. I had to put my long haired chihuahua to sleep today. I'm heartbroken. She was 91/2. I wondered if I would ever find another dog like her, ever. After watching your video I'm thinking maybe it's possible that I won't have to go the rest of my life without that wonderful companionship that my sweet Tula May brought me. It costs a fortune to have a dog these days tho if you run into medical issues. Anyway thank you for letting me feast my eyes on these darling little dogs. You are blessed!
Thank you for the kind words, and my deepest condolences to you! I know how hard that is to go through. Honestly- this is kind of crazy with the timing, but with my very first Chihuahua I had to make the difficult decision to put down on this exact day 4 years ago. We share the same heartbreaking date ❤ I've been thinking about her on and off all day today, and how hard that day was. You're comment let's me know that Daisey is still with me, and your girl is still with you! It took me a lot of searching to find another dog (as I knew immediately that I'd want another). I looked at shelters and breeders. You're right- they can be so expensive. Out of my league. After enough searching I did eventually come across a little white puppy for sale from a reputable breeder at a reasonable price. That puppy was Lily (white fluffy one). 8 months later we rescued Gracie (brown fluffy one) and a year after that we got puppy Bella. No dog can ever replace pets that have passed on, but these 3 little ones make me laugh everyday, I just had to make a YT channel to share all of our videos. Once again, I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet dog. Take your time and take care of yourself ❤
@@Jenily111 I've already been window shopping. I considered other breeds that are more available but when I look at the long haired chihuahua's, my heart goes pitty patter. This has been a sweet thing we've shared here. Things are gonna get better. Thank you again!
@@dianepearson3840 I know what you mean about the long haired Chi's! I never had a long haired Chihuahua until I got Lily. Now I'm addicted! I can't ever really see myself getting a short haired dog again, I love all that fluff! Yes things are gonna get better!
We do daylight savings here, and when we recently set clocks back an hour, sunset was 4:30ish and it's dark by 5pm now🌚 Your pups truly live a Fairy-_tail_ Life ✨🐕🧚💕
Yes dark by 5pm here too! I don't mind it except for when I have to look for critters in the dark! Otherwise getting dark so early is just cozy...perfect for the holiday season!
Hi! Quite a gang going on there. We have 4 Chihuahua's too, or I should say 'had'. We bought all the same time 17 years ago not thinking they would all get old together. 3 have passed leaving me with 1 left. I miss the others 😢 more than I care to express. Chihuahua's are the best! Great video!!!
I'm so sorry to hear of that! If it makes you feel any better, the first two Chihuahuas we ever got had babies. 5 babies and we kept 3 of them. Well the "babies" are now 15! One passed away in 2019 and the mom and dad both passed away within the same month span. Back then we didn't think of them getting old at the same time either! Before I got Lily, Bella and Gracie, our house was like a retirement home for Chihuahuas lol
I have a chihuahua Jack Russell mix He is the most loving dog He rubs his face up onto yours and gives nothing but kisses so glad I got this dog. Thank you for the bone broth tip That's one of the troubles we have is feeding him He won't eat nothing but human food he'll chew on some kibble here and here but he basically eats with me whatever I'm eating. I want to get him off eating human food they just don't like to taste of it I don't blame them I was adding gravy to the kibble they ate it for a little while but they gave up on it.
Oh wow I'm surprised he quit eating the kibble with the gravy mixed in! Gravy is delicious! We actually have a new rescue dog in our house and he is the most picky eater I have ever encountered. For awhile he wanted nothing to do with kibble, but I kept mixing in the bone broth and other foods (scrambled eggs, chicken, ground beef- to name a few of his favorites). He would always eat the "people" food first and then munch a little bit on the kibble. Now tonight I noticed he ate everything- kibble included! So maybe it just takes some time. I know it can be frustrating!
They’re so adorable! Where did you get the long-hair chi’s? I had one that was rehired and lost her a couple years ago. I rescued a short haired one but want another long-haired one’.
Thank you! The dark brown one is a rescue, and the other two were from a breeder! I just did a lot of internet searching, finally found a reputable breeder (that didn't charge an arm and a leg) a couple hours away from me in Indiana. For me it's hard to find Chihuahuas in the shelters, especially the long haired ones! You almost never see those! We got lucky finding Gracie (dark brown).
My yard is not fenced in so I have to take my dogs out on a leash every time. My hubby and I have discussed fencing in at least the backyard so they can run around and play and go potty without the restraint of a leash/harness. I have a male pit bull and a female chihuahua, and they are best buddies but when my pit bull has the zoomies I can't take them out together because I don't want my chihuahua to get ran over! That’s awesome! See that’s one good thing about not having a fence, your chihuahua is used to seeing other dogs! My dogs have been too sheltered, now when they see other dogs in the neighborhood they bark at them. It’s something we are trying to work through now, very challenging! At least if you get a fence your pittie can run more, and you chi has good behavior to walk around the neighborhood and visit the other dogs 😊
