Rich's ongoing tendency for name dropping gets old..such as pointing out his residency in Grosse Point & naming locations such as Maui, as his other kick back choices. Its a clear sign of his humanness, yet gets in my way of completely embracing his authenticity & purpose. If you love a place so far off as any of the islands, or quaint old historical neighborhoods, held deep to the hearts of the many who live there, do them and the future a huge favor & don't name them... Do you get it Rich ?

This was so beautiful! As a writer always navigating the balance between art and commerce, the end of this convo resonated with me so deeply. I don't always get that balance right, but there were so many nuggets that reignited my excitement for making art / making life art. For prioritizing experiences that feed the art ( and the soul) rather than trying to figure out what people want and feeling disappointed in both the process and the result. That's how you get off track. That's how you lose meaning. Popular recognition seems like the holy grail, but listening to this, I see it's just another illusion. It's easy to feel like money or fame would give an artist the space to be create authentic art, but once you make it, the machine demands to be fed. The creating has to be its own reward. Best line in the opening song: How do I become who I wanna be while still remaining myself? That about sums it up!
