What do you think of these rental options? Are they worth the price? 🏡Should I make one of them my new home? One thing I'm running into that I meant to elaborate more on in this video is that most of these landlords not only require a 1-year lease, they also want a type of insurance policy (typically costs 45% of a month's rent) PLUS a co-signer who lives in Mexico (which I don't have). Sooooo I'm hoping to find a landlord who's more open-minded to a "traditional" signed lease situation and/or perhaps an alternate arrangement like paying X months of rent in advance. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We'll see!
The first one is beautiful, but I agree about the construction. That would be a deal breaker. I like the third one best, but would likely choose the second one - I hate the red though.
I like the second one, the quiet street plus the extra room. Having a full sized fridge is important. The first one, hated that steep balcony, don't like heights.
I think the second one seems more balanced spesking of cost-benefit but this city is full of surprises, take your time and surely something ideal will pop up.
Maddie, Just my 2-cents of advice about living in CDMX. I lived there for 3 years and was there for the last big earthquake. Look for a place that is, first of all, no more than a few floors above the street. Just in case you have to get out in a hurry. In fact you should really pay attention to the look and structure of the building that you are moving into. Make sure it is safe and you feel ok about getting out in an event. YOu should know by now that certain areas are more prone to damage and movement due to the ground the building sits on. Also try to see the property during different parts of the day. As some areas can be really busy during the day and just the opposite at night, which could be a safety issue. You will also know if you have lots of noise from the street or neighbors. Turn on the water in the shower at each place. Make sure that there is sufficient water pressure and that the area doesn't have regular outages. I would try to be located near a major metro or Metrobus line unless you are going to take Ubers everywhere. Explore the neighborhood and see what's around as far as supermarkets, cafes, etc.
I have always heard that Coyacon (sp) is the safest from quakes due to it being in a rocky area of the city. I personally always thought that would be a place I would want to live. Also, such charming area. Loved it.
Also, ask the shops next to the house, neighbors or people waiting at the bus stop, how safe would they honestly say the area is. Maybe you want to ask women instead of men too... because men can talk about: 'i've been assaulted/robbed here before, but it was late at night, so don't worry' but women apart of robbery attempts could also provide you other information such as: ''I have been gropped or catcalled numerous times, but mostly on weekends only'') Earthquakes are important, but you only need to worry about them once every X years. Personal security you need to worry every X steps.
Old buildings are mostly not earthquake safe , people really care about you, because you are genuine a nice person you are very lucky, love is not how much you love but how much you are loved.(the wizard of oz) when the tin man got his heart.
#2 for sure. You won't have to worry about paying the utilities, internet etc.. Plus is has a bigger fridge. With the red kitchen, I'm sure you can decorate it and make it your own.
There might be larger 12x17 decorative magnets that could go over the red appliance surfaces to tone them down if that is not your style. Although red fits Mexico.
#2 has a terrible layout and terrible use of space. Very large bedroom but then a very small living room / dinning room. It really has no space for a table that large and seems it would be difficult to have a tv there too
I was in Mexico City for the first time in the spring and I fell in love with it. I am an NYer who relocated to Colorado in the 90s, and Mexico City feels like NYC, but better. It's a lovely city with a fun and vibrant vibe. Honestly, I watch your channel all the time and I think this city fits you. Maddie, thank you so much for showing us the apartments and price comparisons, it gives us an idea of what renting is like in CDMX and what we can get for the money. As for which apartment I like, I prefer the second one because it is roomy and it is on the quiet street. However, I hope you get the opportunity to check out many more apartments because for me personally, I would prefer an apartment that's within walking distance and close to the city center where you can walk to restaurants and parks, art galleries and shows, and if you decide to adopt a new fur baby the fur baby can walk with you to some of the parks and restaurants and you can eat out in the patio courtyard of the restaurant with your new baby. If you take it have the patio barred in it has easy access from other roofs , that would give someone/access to your apartment .You will also have builders watching you during the entire build just a heads up .

I am an American who has lived in CDMX for 12 years. The apartments you posted are very good value in very desirable areas. The institution I work for houses many expats in Roma, Condesa, Etc. Rents are expensive in CDMX if you want to live in the desirable neighborhoods. The issue of getting a co-signer is real. It can stop a deal from happening. But some landlords are flexible and will accept the contract without a co-signer. The apartments you posted are good deals for this area. This is what you will pay. You may find better deals but these are about the value you will get in these areas. I hope this is helpful.
Hi Robert, how does the institution you work for find rentals for expats? I lived in Condesa in 1996-2000 and bought an apartment. I am looking for realtors that cater to expats as my long term renters are leaving. Thanks!
The second place has a hip and fun vibe plus it’s all inclusive. You’d likely get used to the red quite quickly. Happy to see you are following your gut and choosing Mexico City. Loads of potential for travel and no need for a car. Best of luck!
I really liked the first apartment because it was so modern! The finishes were all really nice. It is a little on the small side, but like you said, perfect for one person. Edit: Oops, forgot about the construction! Then I'd say #2 was my fave, the red kitchen was a little out there but still pretty nice and contemporary!
Always liked to watch your videos since the other channel, I like to see my country thru the eyes of a person from a different country but today you blew my mind, you went to places I used to transit very frequently 'cause I used to live or work very close to the places you visited. Awesome!! Keep up rhe great work! ✌️
Being on that quiet street was definitely a major selling feature for me. Also the landlord was open to a 6-month contract instead of 12-months and didn't require the insurance policy so that's nice
I live in Narvarte Poniente, been living here for 9 years now and I absolutely love it, but I think you can find something better here than the one you show in the video. As someone mentioned already, don't settle too soon. Though I like the third one (not the building, honestly, but the apartment looks kinda cute and the rent amount sounds ok. Also in Narvarte Poniente you have everything at walk distance, and I mean it when I say everything, but yeah I wouldn't rent right on Xola street
@@thisnewcreatedaccount5286 traffic jams all the time, the street per se is cool, I live nearby but I rather walk there than live on it or drive it through. When I'm driving I normally try to avoid it and take some alternative route. So yeah to live there is noisy for sure
Maddie, I watched a few of your old videos and recently recognized your smiling face flying solo. You look happy and content, so good for you! It's okay to be human and have tough days too, but it's just like you said, "needing to relearn who I am, and what I like". I wish you the best of luck in Mexico City and encourage you to get a dog when the timings right. In the meantime, pepper spray, a "blackjack" defensive tool, and maybe wearing/having a whistle is a good idea. They have door alarms and all sorts of goodies on Amazon, if you can get them delivered there. I'm old enough to be your father and would be worried for my daughter's safety, but also very proud of her bravery and fierce independence. Go get'em Maddie! Your Spanish is notably improved, well done!
Great picks Maddie; however, out of all those neighborhoods I’d go for the apt in Narvarte Oriente, I really like that neighborhood, it’s central, lots of public transportation and bikes but also far away from all the rush and noise of Reforma or Insurgentes sur. Just be sure to check out the water flow of the building and talk to neighbors if you can to find out how safe it is at night, particularly for women. Good luck 🍀👍
Great tours Maddie! Thank so much! The apartment rent is more than I thought it would be so I'm assuming there is more competition and demand in Mexico City. PS I like the apartment with the red kitchen price aside.
You can get peel and stick removable wall paper! Just pick your style and colors you can cover every bit of the red kitchen. Also it would help protect the surface from scratches. And the wall paper is easy to wipe down and replace when it gets funky:) All of those spaces are really nice! Thank you for bringing us along!🙏
I just finished watching all your videos. I’ve enjoyed the last ones the most, since I’m from GDL, lived in CDMX for 10+ years and recently moved to QRO, so I relate a lot. Each city has a special place in my heart, but CDMX is pretty special, as you can already tell. Hope you have a great transition, and as someone already said, have a earthquake protocol ;) and enjoy.
I loved Mexico city, the restaurants, cafes, parks, museums... endless wandering...but by the end of my stay I have to admit it was a bit overwhelming... I was waiting for the metro and had to wait for 4 trains as they were packed... and people were shoved against the glass! Also I was there during a water shortage and all the laundromats were closed... I ended up paying 20$ cad for a load because the price was so high... so definitely get a place with water included. All that said I did really enjoy the city...
I agree it can be a bit overwhelming at times, especially in certain zones / certain situations. Today I ended up close to Mercado Corona and oof that was a doozy. SO many people, endless honking....my friend and I couldn't get out of there fast enough. P.S. that's wild about the $20 laundry situation, yikes!
@@MaddieGold Dont let this scare you off. Ive lived there multiple times and in certain areas, you can forget its CDMX. Check out Coyoacan. So peaceful, safe and the views are of the mountains. Stay at the Suites Perisur while you search and have a rooftop jacuzzi with a view of the Pyramid of Cuicuilco.
@@JK-nq1dl ironically I think I was trying to get to Coyoacan when I took the wrong metro and ended up in a busy crazy part of CDMX with Staples and a bunch of other malls.. it was overwhelming . But I do know of all the designated "magical" districts that I would have loved to visit and didn't get a chance. Besides the water/earthquake situation I would have no apprehension moving there!
HI Maddie! Thanks for a great channel and great videos about Mexico! I am planning on moving to Ensenada in the coming years, (I like the cooler temperatures) and your videos are very informative!
Hey, Maddie very welcome to México City! In my experience living here, I recommend you to pick someplace in a secondary street. In main streets usually get too much loud and after a while could be annoying. I also recommend you searching something in Del Valle Centro or Del Valle Sur. Is also a centric neighbourhood, with many quiet streets.
Obviously it’s your choice Maddie, however, I can see you in the very first apartment. Can’t beat that price either. It seems cozy for a one bedroom and fits you. Happy home hunting 😊💕
@@MaddieGold I can't wait to see what you chose as for apart, you said you didn't pick any of these ..courage girl the sun will shine again for you ..( old enough to be your mother )
Enjoyed this video and seeing what some lower priced apts can be found in Mexico City. It's refreshing when I get a chance to see a House/Apt hunting video that's relatable to a budget I could afford. I liked the last apt the best but the noise level would probably be a deal breaker. Hopefully you get to shop around a little more for a few more options.
Thanks PM! I feel like they all had some nice features but at least one or two dealbreakers that would keep me from picking them. (i.e. the construction next door to the first apartment or the loud street noise of the 3rd)
Also… the best thing about Mexico City is their location, so any day you can take a bus and go to the state of Morelos in 1 hour or a little more (Cuernavaca, Tepoztlan, Tequesquitengo, Cocoyoc) or to Puebla (2 hrs) or to Queretaro (3 hrs) or to Acapulco (4 hrs) and they’re regular travels that almost every person here like to do every week, so you can always find travel partners.
Hi Maddie! Both are very nice but I would pick #2. Looks like a very well design building with all those natural light features and the location looks safe and calm street. And everything included Woow!
I would say, you are in the right track, Narvarte, Del Valle and even Álamos are good nerighborhoods and you can find nice places from 12000 and up, Condesa and Cuauhtemoc yes, are nicer, a lot of foreign people live there , buit you keed to look really hard because owners know that and tend to charge a bit more. But with luck you'll find a great place.
Thanks, maddie! I'm so glad you have a new channel & that's so cool you're looking for a new place in mexico. I know you'll find the perfect place for yourself!💜
Very interesting thank you Maddie. To my taste, I'd choose #2 if I had to opt between those you have seen. I would take a look at several more if that's possible. Good luck in your search!

One of the best vacation I’ve been on!! I can’t wait to go back!🙏
Madi are you ok ? You haven't posted in a bit ... blessing from Texas
How great to see you Maddie. I was wondering where you'd gone. You are such a good presenter. I subscribed!
Hey Maddie...no vids! Hope all is well. Post a quick update if you're just taking some time off.
Yep all good I’m just taking some time to recharge. Thanks for checking on me!
@@MaddieGold 👏👏🌻
I like the 3rd one but the 2nd one seems a better fit. Peace & quiet means a lot!
Lots of great options Maddie! Loved the video as always! You are so fun to watch!
I love seeing the apartments! Thank you for taking us along! Looking forward to the next video.
Maddie, finally a great informational video. Keep them coming. The drama ones tend to be useless for me. Love to see you strong and happy.
I could watch this type of video all day long! Love the apartment tours so much. More please!
Same
Yay!!! So glad you’re choosing Mexico City! One of my favorite Cities in the world! Plus there are so many wonderful places to go on weekends and day trips from there…Teotihuacan, Taxco, Puebla, Coyoacán. You’re going to be so happy!! By the way, I love the red kitchen ♥️
The artist's home was by far the best house Maddy. Good luck.
The 2nd one seems very nice Maddie. When you get a chance visit Coyoacan, lots of things to see and eat! I grew up there, you're going to love it.
Hi MaddieGold - I recently found your old videos and always enjoyed your wit and positive energy. Good luck with the new solo adventure.
Hi Maddie. We are eager to see you again. We love your videos and you are awesome!🥰
I love going along with you on tours of apartments
Maddi?!! Where you be girl?!! I pray all is well with you wherever you are...God Bless hum
Hi Melissa! Taking a little mental health hiatus but I’ll be back soon 🙂
The central area is the air and light shaft. Before a/c was common, these allowed windows to be open for cross ventilation.
Im team Maddie!! Love all your content! Best wishes always!! 💕
If you take it have the patio barred in it has easy access from other roofs , that would give someone/access to your apartment .You will also have builders watching you during the entire build just a heads up .
Thank you for taking us along post relationship. I think it’s good to see your new adventures as you grow in your independence. I’m really enjoying watching your videos. Thanks again and wishing you good karma. Hugs!
Maddie go back to Queretaro you like that city and you'll be very happy there! 😊
You need to keep creating. You content is amazing.
Thank you for the tour Maddie . I have a realistic view of pricing if I even consider living there.
Always liked to watch your videos since the other channel, I like to see my country thru the eyes of a person from a different country but today you blew my mind, you went to places I used to transit very frequently 'cause I used to live or work very close to the places you visited. Awesome!! Keep up rhe great work! ✌️
Maddie, apartment 2 Is the Best one. The streets aré Quiet, not to much traffic.Good luck.
The outside of the 2nd apartment seems more your style (from MY point of view) so if I had to choose one for you I would choose #2. 🙂
Being on that quiet street was definitely a major selling feature for me. Also the landlord was open to a 6-month contract instead of 12-months and didn't require the insurance policy so that's nice
Like the 3 rd one and see how the balcony is barred in . .the extra room great office . The price is good .
Whats wrong with Zola street
@@thisnewcreatedaccount5286 La calle de Xola es muy transitada, hay mucho paso vehicular, es más ruidosa.
Im living through ur videos. Keep em coming my G.
Congrats on hitting 50k on your subscriber count. Break out that bubbly and celebrate! 🥂 🍾
Thanks for sharing your perspective/insights! I’ll be sure to do that
Can't wait to see your choice! I am jelly! I know you are loving all that Tangerine in your B&B, Miss Maddie!!!!!
Always wondered what apartments in Mexico City looked like. Thanks for showing these.
Hi, Maddie- We miss you- Hope all is well!
Hi Maddie, Mike here, the 3rd one was the best, hope you’re enjoying it.
📢#2 for the hearing impaired!!! Also its peaceful and the tree lined street is nice!!!
The second apt. I live in LA and a quiet street is gold.
@@rainbowfrequency1 Definitely give it another chance and you'll fall in love with it like I did.
Number 2 with the red kitchen is the best one. Quiet neighborhood. Electricity bill is high in Mexico so having utilities included is a plus.
Obviously it’s your choice Maddie, however, I can see you in the very first apartment. Can’t beat that price either. It seems cozy for a one bedroom and fits you. Happy home hunting 😊💕
I agree. First apartment is totally Maddie.
If it weren't for the construction next door, I'd pick that first one in a heartbeat because it pretty much checks off all my boxes
Most people in Mexico can't afford an apts for that price 😅
We love you Maddie
Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! Thanks for sharing your life with us! You are amazing! God bless you!
So excited for you to first venture toward change. Good idea to keep looking. First seemed nice, second well situated.
That is a good point. Somewhat close by bus. Airport for international travel right there. Some say Puebla is nice to live.
Hi Maddie! Both are very nice but I would pick #2. Looks like a very well design building with all those natural light features and the location looks safe and calm street. And everything included Woow!
Hope you're doing okay, kiddo? Looking forward to your next video.
Hi Maddie! It's always nice to see another video from you 👏
Thanks for watching Becky! 😊
Good luck in your search!
have fun looking. looking forward to see what you decide on....
If they offer cleaning that is code for your land lady is all up in your business every week.
Absolutely agree.
I like the second one best. The one on the quiet street.
The longer you're gone the harder it's going to be to come back. You Can Do This! You are fabulous with more personality than most with their own channel. Everyone loves Maddie! ❤️ get back on that horse, girl! It's where you belong!
