Believe it or not but Load/Reload is what made me love Metallica
Same here
Same. Reload in 1997. First album I bought with my own money earned from babysitting.
Me too. Still my favorite era.
Absolutely no doubt!!!
Hope ya all have rocked their previous 6 albums too. Looking back I can't even imagine a world without their music. Their music has gotten me out of some really deep funks in my life!
It blows me away that so many people complained about this album when it came out. I remember people literally talking shit about how Metallica rolled over and how they'd never buy another Metallica album again. And I used to ride all over town on a mountain bike back then playing air guitar and beating the air drums to this album trying to figure out what the fuck was wrong with these people. This album kicks ass.
I'm with you man. Was in to it then, still love it now.
The Woodstock '99 version of Bleeding Me brings it all back too.
This is by far my favorite thing they ever did. I wish they could pull together another show in honor of Michael Kamen with new stuff in the mix.
Mike Carey I bought this album back in 2000, I've never stopped listenin to it. Such a great album
I love Load
I was a diehard metal fan when this came out, and I felt absolutely betrayed by this. Only now in my late 30s do I truly grasp the beauty of it. Maturity is wonderful.
This is an unbelievably great performance.. Hetfield's voice is flawless.
Sounds like shit, he was cracked out
If he was on something, i didn't pick up on it. James sounds absolutely fantastic and if you think you can do it better, New York lets hear it then. Otherwise, keep your negative opinion to yourself! That's all
Chill
A little autotune but I don't mind.
Makes me cry everytime
If you can’t understand the genius of this band there’s no hope for you
I love this version of Bleeding Me so much
The best one. His voice. There playing the symphony! Just unbelievable!
Last Dance of Lance Vance
Me, too
Very nice
By far the best one!!!
@@AlexSilva007 entire album is a masterpiece
One of the band's best songs because it talks about regrets and everyone has regrets. ("This thorn in my side is from the tree I've planted")
But also a hope: “I’m diggin’ my way to somethin’ better”
Not one single, solitary flaw here. Zero. Zilch. And not just this song, this entire show. A true masterpiece.
I remember in the documentary on the DVD that there was a total failure on this song during rehearsals and James asked, "If something happens, what do we do?" something of that nature.
I think S&M 99 could have had a couple of songs swapped out for others, namely Until It Sleeps, The Thing That Should Not Be, and -Human. They play them all very well, flawlessly in fact, but Until and -Human aren't two of their best and Thingy just doesn't work well with the Symphony IMO. Ohh and Battery as the encore wasn't great with the Symphony either. But apart from those it's unbelievably awesome. Swap those out and replace them with Moth into Flame, Confusion, and Halo on Fire from S&M2 and you have the perfect S&M experience. Of course, those three weren't written yet in 99, so I'm not sure what I would have put in instead back then. Maybe Where the Wild Things Are, ...AJFA, and Frayed Ends! Creeping and Orion would be interesting too!
I would imagine they filmed more than one and used the best one that’s how I would do it but who knows
@@cameronfielder4955 there were two shows, yes.
Yeah because he's using autotune lol
I don't want to start a heat level argument here, nor spread any negativity but a friendly hint. For the people critisizing Lars' persona: this guy has always been supportive to his band members and their fans. He's been majorly involved in writing the songs and partly the lyrics. He as well as the other Metallica members puts so much energy in performing live.
Also, he's taught himself drumming and plays tight again.
Sometimes it's important stepping in other's shoes / thinking about the stuff they've gone through sometimes.
Have a fantastic day, everyone! Peace! 🙂
Yes! without Lars Metallica would have never happened it was just him and James in 1981 just a couple teenagers with no money but they both had a dream of making it Lars wasn’t good at drumming at first and James was severely shy but James wanted to express himself through music and although Lars may not be the greatest drummer to be honest he isn’t but remember! he was the drummer behind all the inconic songs on KEA,RTL,MOP,AJFA,and TBA 5 of arguably the greatest metal albums ever created! I don’t like the hate that Lars gets yes before death magnetic he probably was slacking severely during live shows but still he’s overall a genius from a songwriting standpoint!💖💖
I've never understood the hate Lars gets. He's a phenomenal drummer and contributor. Metallica wouldn't sound Metallica, if Lars wasn't drumming. If you think Metallica would sound better with a different drummer, then you don't like Metallica lol.
@@goldenwolf8081 indeed, thx for the kind reply. 😊
@@Sonic-gy7kq I agree. Metallica wouldn't feel like Metallica without Lars. Don't waste energy on trollings. I know there are haters and it's hurtful to see sometimes but also many sincere ppl who respectfully criticise Lars' worse playing parts. Cheers! 💙😄
Yeah bro try not to waste time on the trolls, rather comments like these to show support for Lars. It's honestly the minority who don't like Lars and most fans do, as they do for James. If you know any real professional drummers and ask them about Lars they will tell you how actually influential Lars was to the whole metal genre with the offbeats and high-hat mutes/cancels. Its literally just like James. Wasn't professionally trained, resulting in creating new styles for the genre to enjoy and replicate. @@samitechcookie9758
17 when I heard it for the first time. 45 now, listening while the kids are sleeping. Still gives me the same chills when I first heard it! So many different emotions during those years, but still the same chills when I hear it.. You just don’t get it
Oh I DO get it..I’m 43 and bought this album the day it came out
Black album, load, reload were perfect for S&M
RIP Michael Kamen

This thorn in my side is from the tree I planted. Gets me every time
Load is an ENTIRELY underrated album! Listening again on the 25th anniversary! ❤
It sure as shit is better than st anger etc.
The album that I enjoyed much
And they're getting ready to do box sets for both Load and ReLoad. A friend of mine signed off on his ticket stub from the Load tour, as well as his journal where he talked about skipping prom to go see Metallica in Houston.
King Nothing is a banger
Hells Yes 🤘
A true masterpiece! James vocals are perfection.
Almost 2024 and this still blows my mind even after 10 years of knowing it.
Newsted is so great on back vocals, so much energy live ... This is what Metallica needs today
7:20 jason being the soul of the metal! 🔥
This is an absolute masterpiece. Hetfields voice is just incredible.
Back when Lars used a ride cymbal....BRING IT BACK
Just did! There is ride in Hardwired.
iNtivity i think he was using a crash as a ride in hardwired
I don't know if you guys are joking but there's no ride in any song in Hardwired haha
I CANT BELIEVE IT! WE ALL LOVE THE CHINA "DEEP" CLASH SOUND! LMAO
@jonny j Actually he used the ride in St Anger, he liked more of a crash china sound so he experimented and used the ride as a crash
James’ vocals on S&M were FIRE
peak
Hands down, this is the best version of this song. Not even close.
“The thorns which I have reap'd are of the tree
I planted; they have torn me, and I bleed.
I should have known what fruit would spring from such a seed.”
― Lord Byron
I'm a full on first four albums snob, but this song is fucking unreal. The lyrics. The way it pushes and pulls. So dynamic. So heartfelt.
I'm with you 🤟🏻
My grandmother died about I want to say a year after this came out. She wasn't a metal head, but she had played trumpet for a symphony. It felt like she was with me watching the original broadcast and it was the first time after she died I felt like I wasn't alone. It's still a powerful album to me.
Load and Reload are great albums. I don’t know why people call them bad. They are excellent.
oh man. I used to turn out the lights, lay in bed with headphones and just chill to this one. Fucking love this song!!
I still do this.
"Bleeding Me"
I'm diggin' my way
I'm diggin' my way to something
I'm diggin' my way to somethin' better
I'm pushin' to stay
I'm pushin' to stay with something
I'm pushin' to stay with something better
I'm sowing the seeds
I'm sowing the seeds I've taken
I'm sowing the seeds I take for granted
This thorn in my side
This thorn in my side is from the tree
This thorn in my side is from the tree I've planted
It tears me and I bleed
And I bleed
Caught under wheel's roll
I take the leech I'm bleeding me
Can't stop to save my soul
I take the leash that's leading me
I'm bleeding me
I can't take it
Caught under wheel's roll
The bleeding of me
Of me
The bleeding of me
Caught under wheel's roll
I take the leech I'm bleeding me
Can't stop to save my soul
I take the leash that's leading me
I'm bleeding me
I can't take it
Caught under wheel's roll
The bleeding of me
The bleeding of me
I am the beast that feeds the feast
I am the blood, I am release
Come make me pure
Bleed me a cure
I'm caught, I'm caught, I'm caught under
Caught under wheel's roll
I take thay leech I'm bleeding me
Can't stop to save my soul
I take the leash that's leading me
I'm bleeding me
I can't take it, I can't take it, I can't take it
The bleeding of me
Come on
Bleed me
I'm digging my way
I'm digging my way to something
I'm digging my way to something better
I'm pushing to stay
I'm pushing to stay with something
I'm pushing to stay with something better
With something better
Lyrics that punch me right in the gut. He's a fucking phenomenal songwriter.
I never understood the hate for load reload albums. With gems like this outlaw, wild things, fixxxer, hero of the day, fuel. Like come on if any other band made these albums they would be world wide hits
You forgot memory remains
Depressing in a way.... I bought this album a little after it came out. Been rocking them since I was 10. Sucks getting old....
@@ja-sl6vt yeah
@@joeshmo2827 lol I started listening when I was 12. And magnetic came out when I was 16. Have loved them since
Hard core early fans since Kill em All, Ride, etc.. We still appreciated this , it’s good
I relate this song to depression, I am the beast that feeds the feast, would be the fact that I bring some of it on myself, caught under wheels roll, would be that I'm stuck and I can't get out or escape the way I feel. This song has helped me through a lot and the way james writes lyrics is amazing, it can relate to many different people in different situations.
And that's what makes metallica amazing they have music for every part of life we go thru with the same metal feel we love so much shame when people say they suck after music like ain't my b**ch and the earlier days of load and ride the lightning they my darkest times easy to cope with than anyone I'm close with could or talk to
I can relate to that, I'm bleeding me yeah!
I'm at 3 and I have to do all the work on
MA SEI FORSE DEPRESSA TU???
SENTI CHI SI STRUGGE O SI LUNGE PERBACCO!!!
Amazing. James is simply perfect here.
Damn I miss Jason. While I think Jason could not have achieved what Rob did on _Death Magnetic_ , Jason's playing and backing vocals was just so much better for the live stadium and arena performances which required that big deep growl.
And what did Rob achieve on magnetic that Jason couldnt??
Jason is a Beast live. Agreed 100%
you dont have to write or compose songs, you have to bring it to people with your interpretacion and presence. jason was the one
What Jason couldn't do what Rob did ? Being a Helicopter at the end of Seek and destroy? Yeah.. I think we could live without that .
@@joshansharma4244 So that idiotic crab walk is better huh?

5:18 to 7:20 is the greatest piece of music you'll ever hear.
Jarryd Matthews SO intense...
for sure! that was so amazing I got goosebumps
Rly great, but Gilmour’s comfortably numb solo in Pompeii...
6:30 when his voice cracks... that was everything he had - so good, such and under-rated song.
It’s tight no doubt. Loved them since early times
The DVD deserves a re-release, remastered in 4K!
One of the standouts from this show. As are most of the "balads" (y).
I was 15 when this came out. Blew my first paycheck on CDs. This is the only one I remember buying. So dope
I was 10, remember my brother coming home with it and listening to it non stop, going for drives just to listen on his alpine stereo, back when sooping up sedans was the big thing haha
Those were the days dude! I remember doing the same. At circuit city and best buy.
I was 19. Bought the DVD and absolutely wore it out!
Awesome how the orchestra makes the song bigger and more intense.
One of the most underrated Metallica songs. The melodies, the riffs, the lyrics, the transactions are beautiful.
This song is like wine , old = delicous
No other drummer can be as entertaining as Lars during this live. He's outstanding.
A CLASSIC....
Bold call, this is a top ten metallica song.
Load 🤘🏻
Jason's backing vocals is so impressive! I miss this in new Bleedin' performances...
Autotune?
Such a powerful song
Absolutamente
As a Metallica fan from as far back as Kill Em All... this is one of their best. Close to my favourite Metallica song
When I was a younger man I hated that they did this with an orchestra. As an older man I realise how absolutely lucky I was to ever witness such great music
Metallica, a band for all seasons!
I had this on VHS back in 1999
such nostalgia. throws me right back to being a teenager. what an ablum load is. truly holds up to the test of time.
Did you have Live Shit Binge & Purge Seattle 1989 on VHS? Best Blackened performance in my opinion. Damn....I'm getting old....lol
Outlaw torn/bleeding me. Most underrated songs in the history of Metallica period!!!!! Btw Kirk hammett fucking stud shit period also!!!!!!!
The climax growing in this song always gives me goosebumps! Awesome! 🙏🏻
Such a credit to James for having a voice that can seem in place with a symphony orchestra.
5:12 The way the orchestra‘s chord change interacts with James’ feedback is amazing. I know it’s a minor little detail in the song, but those 3 short seconds get me every time.
Yeah bro
Hetfield is a Music God, His voice here is fucking unreal!
And they are all on point, James's voice, Lars is firing on all cylinders, Kirk is ripping and Jason..... well Jason as usual is just a loveable beast LOL \m/
It’s amazing how much better Load/Reload songs sound with a symphony.
The S& M album is epic.
I grew up with Metallica, and this was ground breaking. It still stands on its own.
Great sound, great vocals.
Love the crowd too.
I just want more.
This song with S&M is a masterpiece forever❤
absolute nostalgia 1990's throwback
The conductor has best Heavy Metal visual.
Hetfields voice has never been better ever!!!
Get well James, will be here when your ready to come back
Bill Bley Fuckin love James. He’s my childhood idol. Breaks my heart to see him in such a rough place again
Great band, great musicians, beyond our world..............
Jason’s killer bass tone !! Heck yeah ! Da man right there !
James, Lars & Kirk = TRUE TEAMWORK
This song cuts me so deep, I don't know if I've ever listened to this without crying, thank you James Hetfield for creating such a masterpiece I feel like I wrote the lyrics to myself
Same! It unleashes feeling and thoughts that I trap within! Heavy is an understatement.
What a song, I wish they played this one more often during their concerts.
Brilliant song. A top 10 Metallica song.
When I turned 10 years old, I received S&M album as a present, accompanied by a VCR set of videos from 'Load' and 'Reload'. Approaching my 35th birthday, I still can't stop feeling the energy and magnificence of these songs. Jason's backing vocals are just perfect, Kirk and even Lars were amazing, and Hetfield's voice... wow, it's like another planet. Rejoice, people! We have the privilege to live and witness Metallica.
One of my favourite versions if not the favourite of this incredible song from Metallica. and I guess I can sort of relate to it considering. Had my near-death motorcycle accident in 1990 aged 26 after sliding off the open road here in New Zealand at high speed from failing to take a bend at 11.10pm on a Friday night. Slid in to a farmers paddock concrete fence post with my left leg and it was immediately amputated at the knee. Then catapulted in to the paddock where I was discovered by a farmer who contacted emergency services. I was conscious all through out. Thankfully I was taken by ambulance to our local hospital within the 'golden hour'. On the 4th day in hospital I began 'fitting' due to renal failure and was taken by ambulance to a larger hospital 200km east. On the 2nd evening in that hospital the remaining stump of my left leg was amputated including my left hip joint and left side of my pelvis as I was suffering from septicaemia (blood poisoning). I also suffered numerous other internal injuries. I ran the hospital's blood bank out of my blood type as doctors & surgeons struggled to gain a fresh blood supply. By some miracle they finally gained a fresh blood supply and I survived. So yeah, guess I can relate to this song from Metallica reasonably well. Thank you Metallica and thanks to uploader, really appreciated.
whoah man, that's impressive, surviving such a huge crash, really lucky, i wish you the best!
+zeno toffali Thank you! In 1994 at the age of 31 I set the World's Fastest Time for an A.K.A. (above knee amputee) using crutches on my one good right leg only over the Marathon. My time set in Christchurch, New Zealand was 5 hours 58 minutes 13 seconds. It eclipsed the then fastest time 6 hours 22 minutes by 23 minutes. My fastest time stood for 19 years until in 2013 it was broken by a winter Paralympic gold medallist in a time of 5 hours 23 minutes. However his high-tech crutches I believe gave him a significant ergogenic advantage because my crutches were old school!
Blackscorpion1963 wohoa great! That's an example for the pople that after a crash think that life is over, you never and never have to surrender!
+Blackscorpion1963 Are you John Eden? This is amazing!
+zeno toffali Thank you. It may read as a cliche; 'One door slams shut, another opens' My fall from grace has enabled me to understand and live life to the utter maximum best. And still there is so much to know - everyday I wake up an infant. Best wishes to you.
One of the most powerful slower songs. Amazing.
This song is going through me like electricity. God damn Metallica is WAY better now that I'm not all fucked up on dope anymore. Ahhhhh.....its good to be back.
Keep fighting the fight bud.
Hope you’re still healthy and at peace brother. It ain’t easy. I’m still fighting
Keep fighting man.
Getting that piece of me back was the greatest feeling ever and rediscovering how much I love this band was a big part of it. One moment. One Day at a time.
This song is out of this world...
This performance leaves me with goose bumps everytime I listen.
I wish i could be at that concert. That is something special...🤘
I feel like this is one of their crowning recordings. Everyone is quick to go to Master, or the Black Album. But S&M was tight as they've ever been.
Thank you, Metallica. I needed this at this moment. PTSD survivor since 2013. OEF 2009-2013. Just pushing to stay with something better
maybe the greatest live song performance of metallica !!!
+kagia john I love this album but watching the performances just adds a whole extra layer of awesome on everything. So, so good.
this is by far my favourite vocal performance by hetfield (minus sandman in Moscow 1990) this shows one of the strongest musical performances I've ever seen from the band in one song
+Sam Swales what about Seattle 1989
Tanner Marriott seattle 89 for most aggressive performance but this as an all round performance is great
Yeah that's true
One of my favourite songs love the symphony on this
2:50-3:05 one of the best moments in rock and roll history
Who rolls?
Maravilhoso💖
This concert was the best Metallica has ever sounded.
It's a bittersweet thing because James at this point reached the age and consciousness of his addiction that allowed him to write more introspective lyrics. I admit I miss this level of his lyricism but at the same time I'm happy that he overcame the addiction. I'm in and out with bad times as everyone else but this song helped me so much through many things. I love the minimalism of this song and the line 'the thorn in my side from the tree I planted' - realisation of your own responsibility. It amazes me that loads of people criticise this one but I think it's personal - not everything has to be about fast tempo. Oh and 2nd part of this song is so beasty, it really sounds like freeing yourself but bleeding as a result.
By far the best live performance of this song on par with the studio version if not better
Fade to black and bleeding me is my personal best Metallica songs...they talk to me in some higher level..maybe im crazy but hey...life is miracle.death is gift.
Nope , you’re not crazy .
Happiness begins with Metallica
My all time favorite album/concert!
Nadastein agree totally. They are amazing live. But this album, 😍 my favorite
Sounds are so satisfying even all these years later!!!!!!!
The sound is simply astounding. Absolutely perfect mix. Truly amazing for a live show. It's nearly indistinguishable from a studio recording. Wow.
FecesPeces The sound is surely great. But I like the live vibe of the Live Shit recordings more. This has quite a few overdubs I think, don't know. Maybe Live Shit has them too, but it doesn't feel like that. Too bad they don't make live recordings like that anymore, where you can actually hear the crowd and the feeling of being in a concert hall. Everything sounds very "soundboardish". 😊
indeed. here I am listening this after seeing s&m 2 being totally disappointed with the sound mix. the sound of this concert is magnificent
@@Kensloos yeah something about it give it a different experience than recorded stuff
S&M was extremely well-produced
