Losing both of them is also why he is terrified of Kratos.

57:29 iirc, the Blades of Chaos, Blades of Athena and Blades of Exile were all different weapons. Ares removes the Blades of Chaos at the end of GoW 1 and Athena replaces them with the Blades of Athena. Then, at the beginning of GoW 3, the Blades of Athena are dulled by the river Styx and Athena replaces them again with the Blades of Exile.
In the novelisation of GoW 2018 (nvm, I've been informed it was in a GoW comic, not the novellisation) it's revealed that, after the Greek pantheon died, Kratos was given 2 curses. He's unable to take his own life and the original Blades of Chaos keep following him around, appearing beside him whenever he tries to get rid of them. I think his eventual decision to keep them, even if he kept them hidden under his home, satisfied the magic and made them stop following him, presumably as long as he always intended to eventually return to the house where he kept them. If he ever decided not to go home, they'd probably have started following him again.

That's why in the introductory mission during the deer hunt (Kratos was checking if the boy was ready for the journey) he didn't even know if his mother had taught the boy to track, hunt and use a bow. I always thought the “I was born a god” moment was Kratos still not being entirely truthful. By claiming he was born a god rather than *becoming* a god it eliminates the difficult question of HOW he became a god, he’s actively choosing to tell another lie that pacifies the entire line of questioning.
It seems even emphasized with Kratos saying “The truth? The truth . . . “ as if he really considered opening up fully right there, before ultimately backing down and only being partially honest. It also makes the later “I am from a land called Sparta” scene more impactful because he’s finally actually telling the truth, and while in that scene he doesn’t specifically mention obtaining his godhood after killing Ares it can be surmised that after this moment he did finally reveal the full truth to his son.

Or in God of War demigods are still considered as gods but the upper echelon of Greek gods just consider them inferior and would rather refer to them by their mortal side instead of their god side. He definitely becomes stronger after officially becoming the god of war but it's not like he was doing normal guy things before that. Even in God of War Ascension Kratos is fighting Aegeon who was strong enough to fight Titans. In Chains of Olympus he even fights Atlas briefly and is the one who chains him to hold the heavens and kills Persephone who is another god. So he's had godly powers long before opening Pandora's Box.

Kratos wasn't aware he was born a demi God, he fully believed he was mortal and only started catching onto it after he made the deal with Ares. If I remember correctly, correct me if I'm wrong, Athena told him Zues was his father and that Pandoras box would aid him in killing Zues.
Kratos also didn't become full God until he killed Ares and took his place. Zues was the one that took that power away from him when he realized Kratos was power hungry and out of control, tricking him into giving up his power into the Blade of Olympus.

About Kratos being born a god. He likely just said it like that because it’s a quicker explanation, since Atreus is Norse, he wouldn’t have heard of ascending to godhood, since all gods in Norse mythology were born as gods, the only exception is Bragi, but that depends on the version.
Or it’s just because of Kratos being old by this point that he forgot some things

56:54 I ACTUALLY KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS ONE!
So. The blades of chaos and the blades of athena are separate blade sets. The blades of athena Did become the blades of exile like you said.
But the blades of chaos were given back to kratos after god of war one since he now had inherited all of ares’ weapons as the god of war but given the history, he didnt want to use them.
Post god of war 3 the blades of chaos found him again and now seem magically cursed to stay with him. He is unable to get rid of them.
He tried. The book mentioning how he ended up in Midgard says he cast them into the sea. The sea in response destroyed his boat and spit them back out. He washed up on shore with them next to him. So he decided to bury them under his house. Near him but unused.

He doesn't want to tell Atreus that he killed a god to become one, so he just says he was born one to make it easier for Atreus to understand. Kratos is not ready to tell Atreus the entire story yet, so he just kinda makes something up and rolls with it, so that he can tell Atreus he's a god, but leave out the details. 57:16 It’s because after Kratos gets the Blades of Athena the OG Blades of Chaos were still the Blades just a different style of the OG Blades of Chaos. Same goes for the Blades of Exile in God of War III. When Athena made the Blades of Athena turn into the Blades of Exile she just make the OG Blades of Chaos a different style then when Kratos left Greece Athena’s Magic Style ability left the Blades and they took a new form to the Norse lands. Also when Kratos destroyed Greece his magic abilities were all gone. We know this from GOWR. And Fun fact the Norse Blades of Chaos are different in 2018 and Ragnarok because of Fimblewinter

Loved this video, TMG! This game is a masterpiece and it was so fun seeing you make this mythological inaccuracies video. Would love to see you do Ragnarök too!
One point I'll add to the discussion at 11:10 though! I know GOW Ragnarök does reveal that the boar is Hilvisvini in the next game, but I remember when 2018 first came out, I had always thought this boar was meant to be Gullinbursti (and that Freya was guarding it for Freyr since she was unsure of his whereabouts in Vanaheim at the time). It would make a lot more sense, since the boar does have the golden streaks along him and Gullinbursti, like this boar, is said to be the only one of its kind too. It makes me wonder if Hildisvini was a retcon to this idea that threw everything into disarray as you note.
All purely conjecture, of course, but just a thought I had.

First, My credentials: A degree in the study of religion
1: The Idunn apples don't restore your youth, if they did Odin would be a young man - they just grant immortality/halt your aging
2: I don't think the horns of blood mead are supposed to be Kvasir's mead. I think they're most likely just a reference to the whole idea of berserkers drinking spiked mead before going into a rage
3: Dwarves turning to stone is only a thing in that one story - wouldn't consider it generally applicable
4: Odin needed to hang himself from the tree to *understand* the runes, not to attain them. He also needed the water from Mimir's well to gain more knowledge. It's possible that Atreus was just taught by someone who understood the runes (His mom who made the protective stave and clearly knew magic), or that he is simply naturally smarter than Odin.
5: We have no textual evidence/reference to human sacrifice in the pre-christian north, we only have archaeological evidence that lines up with human sacrifice. Whether or not the vikings engaged in human sacrifice is actually still up for debate in academic/scientific circles
6: Dwarves made a thread out of sounds and concepts, them making arrows out of mistletoe is entirely reasonable
7: A more interesting issue with the highest peak being in jotunheim is that jotunheim isn't a singular place. In old norse it is always pluralised as in meaning "Realms of the Giants" not Realm singular. The idea being that You have Asgard in the centre, midgard around it, the sea around that, and then on the other side of the sea you have an unknown number of giant realms. Jormungandr both keeping the humans in and the giants out
8: It's a relatively common theme in these games that the stories we know are the aesir propaganda versions. Like how Hrungnir's shrine tells one story, but Mimir who was there tells another
9: Skadi was married to Odin according to some stories after hacing split from Njord
10: Again, if you can make a thread out of concepts then it would stand to reason that you could keep a piece of a hamingja's essence
11: The name "hrimthur" just comes from the term "hrimthursar" which are just general frost/ice themed jotun-like creatures
12: Kratos is refered to as "Fárbauti" among the giants in the game, so that part still tracks, but it's unclear in the myths if Loki's mother, whose name means "Leaf island", is a jotnar or a literal island
No hate tho, you clearly know a ton about mythology, and have done a bunch of research - these are just a few points I noticed that perhaps weren't as inaccurate as you think
