I have seen so many breakdowns of this movie and never seen someone point out that the spear of odin is also a key to open bifrost other than heimdal's sword, this just shows how much efforts my guy put into these videos.... Amazing work dude
can't wait for the Love and Thunder video where it just starts off with "I know this is probably gonna be a huge shock to you guys and you're gonna hate the ancients for this... but the Guardians of the Galaxy do not have any cameos in Norse Mythology."
Funnily enough, Marvel moving Loki's relation to the Aesir a generation down _(using “generation” as a relative term since these guys all can live for thousands of years)_ from Odin's blood brother to adopted son, but then moving Hel a generation up from Loki's daughter to adoptive sister, it technically keeps her (mythically entirely irrelevant) familial relation to Thor and the other Aesir at the same generational level, being the generation below Odin.
@@antona.1327Loki becomes the adopted son of Odin instead of his blood brother, this going down a generation while Hela is Odin's daughter, going up a generation or being the same generation as Loki. Also not in these films as they are only vaguely adapting the mythology.

But, you know, Mr. "I'll ruin your mythos" doesn't read, comics, mythological sources, or anything of value that isn't Twitter (not that Twitter has any value).
Fun fact: In the books, they actually include a suitably mythological reason for why the Greek hero is referred to by his Roman name. In Marvel canon, he was originally Heracles, but after having to put up with Heras shit for so many years, he wanted to distance himself from her as much as possible so he adopted the name the Romans called him. I'm actually kind of surprised more media doesn't go that route when it comes Heracles/Hercules.
Glad to see that he didn't comment on Thor battling an army of aliens in East Africa. It would've shocked me to my core if I'd found out that hadn't happened in Norse mythology.
Glad someone brought up Thor is God of THUNDER NOT LIGHTNING Felt like I was going insane when I read Norse myths and he didn't use lightning but made giant THUNDEROUS bellows and slams
He is neither. "God of Something" isn't a concept in Norse/Germanic mythology. Though, among other things like strength and oak trees, Thor is associated with thunder and lightning, he does, in fact, summons and controls lightning in the myths despite the Mythology Guy claiming otherwise. I made a comment about this here, in detail, but basically, when Thor arrives to duel Hrungnir in the myths, he summons lightning, as describes in the Prose Edda. And in a 10th century poem about this myth, it references Thor summoning lightning when it says all the skies were burning due to Thor. Then in Gesta Danorum by Saxo Grammaticus, Thor strikes some women with lightning bolts.
Thank you for another GREAT video, Mythology guy. I recently bought Neil Gaiman's book on Norse myth and finished it within 5 days. I'm gonna reread the book just for the Hel of it.
11:22 he probably says “oh my god” because it’s something humans say when they are shocked, and when he was adjusting to life on earth in the 1st movie he picked up this sort of thing in order to fit in
In the comics, stormbreaker was crafted for a non-mytholofical character named Beta Ray Bill. This character's head can briefly be seen on the grandmaster's tower in ragnorok.
I sort of wish that was the title, and the next movie could've been "Avengers: Ragnarok" instead, since it actually felt closer to the extent of Ragnarok than Thor's movie.
We need Thor: Love and Thunder + Endgame... Although as far as my memory goes, there aren't much things to mention (i think) still deserves a video i guess
Chris Hemsworth made up the Loki story about them being children and Loki turning into a snake. The director gave them a lot of license when it came to improv in that movie and that is where the story came in
This movie doesn't really follow the comics either. The character Scourge was an executioner but, he worked for a female sorcerer named Amora the Enchantress. Which I believe the MCU's version of Hel is a supposed to actually be. However since people are more familiar with the latter they chose to make her the villain instead. This can be used to explain why "Hela" has magical powers and can fight. She was also more accurately depicted as Loki's daughter in the comics but, the mother is never mentioned.
Honestly when Thor says certain phrases like “oh my god” or “you’re just the worst” I just always assumed he picked up a lot of slang from earth which is why he doesn’t talk like his earlier movie self anymore.
Imagine how cool it would have been if Gorr the god butcher, was the one who actually killed baldur. Setting ragnarok in motion earlier than it was supposed to begin, so that he only has to kill a few gods at the end. killing most Norse gods to fuel his god bomb with their souls. Surtr sees this as the perfect time to attack the nine realms. As soon as baldurs body hits the ground, fimblewinter begins. Thor finds his body and is ordered by odin to find out who killed him, he can't do it alone, but with the other Norse gods being busy with the armies of Surtr, Thor requests the help of Heracles, Sif and Artio the bear goddess. With jormungandr not existing in the mcu, gorr creates him to speed up the ragnarok process, Gorr also creates beta ray bill as part of a race that will only be loyal to him, as a sort of false justification that he is, can and will do better than the old gods. Thor fights jormungandr, but gets bitten, before he takes his final step. He gets healed by Artio's druid magic, because of this he loses his connection to mjolnir and is unable to wield it. Forcing him to leave mjolnir behind on a planet, to fight Thor has to use his signature gloves and belt. With a post credit scene where beta ray bill picks up the hammer. With the movie actually being a two parter: Thor 3: Ragnarok as foretold Thor 3 part 2: Rangnarok cometh
Just found your channel and love it. It's obvious to me that your videos are not only meant for entertainment (check) but also education, which I see as a great value. I can let my kids watch these and they understand that you're not griping about the comic source, and they are being exposed to the wonderful world of mythology. Keep at it brother
Movie Hel is a combination of like five different characters from the comics. Yes, Hel is one of them, but a few others include Angela (yes the one from the Spawn comics. Yes, she is canon in Marvel. Yes, she is Odin's firstborn) and Cul, who is Odin's brother and the God of fear, who was imprisoned by Odin
I have one critique with Ragnarok: The fact that Thor is restrained/ weakened by electric shocks MULTIPLE times will being the god of thunder. Like, can he not withstand anything that isn't his own electricity? Would a taser subdue him? It makes no sense!
At that point of the movie Thor couldn't control lightning without Mjolnir, unless he was in high stress situations. It makes sense he was affected by that device
I have a thought on why the gungnir spear wasn't used for the bifrost in this movie. They honestly probably forgot about it doing that or left it out because the movie would probably been a lot more different if Hela was able to start her conquest of conquering the realms. Would've been a cool thing if that was the case.

it's a pointless line of dialogue that was invented by Hemsworth, who doesn't even know about the story of Jormugandr because he never bothered with much research. Quit writing fanfics and pretending like the MCU will do something well for once - they won't.
Not in the myth that I know, but in the comics, when Odin dies, his power transfers to Thor, which does not happen. Also, the bug guy and the rock guy are friends of Hulk and have pledge them selves to him.
Norse Hela : daughter of Loki and Angrboda Comics 616 Hela : Created by Bor Burison and adopted by Loki MCU Hela : eldest daughter of Odin and eldest sibling and dark foil to Thor and Loki Take your pick
Comics Hela was born by Angrboda who at some point mated with Loki and gave birth to three monstrous children. What you're talking about is a recent retcon that shouldn't be taken at any value because those same Marvel Comics of today completely destroy their continuity by letting these awful movies influence them. That was so good that I want to see a 10 minute vid on the Ragnarok accuracy in the mobile game seven deadly sins grand cross, the story not complete but it'll definitely be more accurate than most things you reviewed thus far
Thor is also not a himbo in Marvel comics. In my opinion, this movie is more of a parody of Marvels Thor, but in a good way like the Lego Batman movie.
Even if they did, they would still be wrong, since comics are accurate to the myths, and comic-book Ragnarok is, while not exactly the same, but covers most of the things that are mentioned in the Eddas. Such as Balder dying, the coming of fimbulwinter, the hunger, the chaos errupting in all the realms, Loki planning his revenge and sailing on the ship Naglfar with his monstrous army, Thor fighting the serpent, Surtur forging his Twillight Sword, etc.

I feel like you’re a little too invested if you’re trying to dunk on the MCU movies in like 50% of the comments here. Just give it up, some people can like them and you don’t have to be one of them, just please don’t make it everybody else’s problem. Like the almighty man in the video said, different/inaccurate doesn’t mean bad.
On the subject of Hel destroying Mjolnir, there is also the fact that the hammer is specifically stated to be wielded by Thor’s two children together after Thor’s death.
Still watching the video but loved the joke when you say “sorry marvel fans, but you’re not allowed to have fun” 😂😂
I have seen so many breakdowns of this movie and never seen someone point out that the spear of odin is also a key to open bifrost other than heimdal's sword, this just shows how much efforts my guy put into these videos.... Amazing work dude

Giant can be more accurately called Devourer, and they represent Primordial Chaos, similarly to the titans.
can't wait for the Love and Thunder video where it just starts off with "I know this is probably gonna be a huge shock to you guys and you're gonna hate the ancients for this... but the Guardians of the Galaxy do not have any cameos in Norse Mythology."
Nothing you said makes any sense. Much like this trash movie. Hela is Loki's daughter. This movie sucks. The end.
@@antona.1327Loki becomes the adopted son of Odin instead of his blood brother, this going down a generation while Hela is Odin's daughter, going up a generation or being the same generation as Loki.
Also not in these films as they are only vaguely adapting the mythology.
@@isplat927 1. Yeah, still doesn't make any sense and I see no reason why it has to be brought up. You cornballs are searching for something in nothing. 2. They're not adapting mythology at all. @@Thecrims0nfuck3r I wonder how he would react to “was Hercules like ‘yo I don’t wanna fight Cerberus.’”

Really? Cool!
Glad to see that he didn't comment on Thor battling an army of aliens in East Africa. It would've shocked me to my core if I'd found out that hadn't happened in Norse mythology.
Glad someone brought up Thor is God of THUNDER NOT LIGHTNING
Felt like I was going insane when I read Norse myths and he didn't use lightning but made giant THUNDEROUS bellows and slams
Thunder is lightning sound.
People in ancient times may not have always known. @@jeffreygao3956
Thors hammer is literally called lighting maker
@@finchatforharambe905 No, it isn't. It is speculated that it might mean "lightning".
Thank you for another GREAT video, Mythology guy. I recently bought Neil Gaiman's book on Norse myth and finished it within 5 days. I'm gonna reread the book just for the Hel of it.
11:22 he probably says “oh my god” because it’s something humans say when they are shocked, and when he was adjusting to life on earth in the 1st movie he picked up this sort of thing in order to fit in
I keep forgetting you make these a double feature with the Avengers movies and I get excited every time. Keep up the great work
It’s so good to see these inaccuracies videos they bring me so much joy
In the comics, stormbreaker was crafted for a non-mytholofical character named Beta Ray Bill. This character's head can briefly be seen on the grandmaster's tower in ragnorok.
I find it funny that the fire giants are just human sized but the dwarves are freaking gigantic
I love “Thor: infinity war” it even rhymes
I sort of wish that was the title, and the next movie could've been "Avengers: Ragnarok" instead, since it actually felt closer to the extent of Ragnarok than Thor's movie.
Fun fact about comic Hela: She is still Loki's child.
So its not only mythology inaccurate but comic inaccurate too???? Can they get ANYTHING right!?
11:45 In the painting Odin’s horse only has 6 legs, not 8, like in the myths.
Lol, just noticed that
Where is Slepnir? He wasn't killed before Ragnarok. That's what he shouldve said, but the legs matters too

Chris Hemsworth made up the Loki story about them being children and Loki turning into a snake. The director gave them a lot of license when it came to improv in that movie and that is where the story came in
I love these vids. Keep them coming my dude!!
Honestly when Thor says certain phrases like “oh my god” or “you’re just the worst” I just always assumed he picked up a lot of slang from earth which is why he doesn’t talk like his earlier movie self anymore.
it's bad writing.
I know this is gonna shock people, but thor never fought a purple strong alien on earth right after ragnarok
Always a good day when mythology guy posts
'That puts us at 13 realms!' Had me rollling on the floor in laughter
Love your stuff man been waiting for a new vid, keep up the good work
Imagine how cool it would have been if Gorr the god butcher, was the one who actually killed baldur.
With the movie actually being a two parter:
Thor 3: Ragnarok as foretold
Thor 3 part 2: Rangnarok cometh
Imagine how could it would be if we just got a proper Ragnarok movie directed by Kenneth Branagh. Would much rather see that.
My guy! BE A WRIGHTER THIS IS SO GOOD!!!!

Damn, imagine combing five different cool characters just to make a terribly uninteresting new one.
Hel being their sister? Fine, whatever. Fenrir just being her pet? Sure, whatever. Not including Jormungandr? I cannot forgive

So quick question, does Mythology Odin Really love his children?
I feel like ive seen all the marvel movies so many times the only way i get to experience them freshly is with videos like this.
This video was so comforting , like a bedtime story I fell asleep listening to it
I have one critique with Ragnarok: The fact that Thor is restrained/ weakened by electric shocks MULTIPLE times will being the god of thunder. Like, can he not withstand anything that isn't his own electricity? Would a taser subdue him? It makes no sense!
A taser is in fact shown to down him in the first Thor movie
I also have a critique of Ragnajoke; it sucks.
At that point of the movie Thor couldn't control lightning without Mjolnir, unless he was in high stress situations. It makes sense he was affected by that device
Banger of a video as always man, love your stuff. Cant wait for the GoW video!
I have a thought on why the gungnir spear wasn't used for the bifrost in this movie. They honestly probably forgot about it doing that or left it out because the movie would probably been a lot more different if Hela was able to start her conquest of conquering the realms. Would've been a cool thing if that was the case.
Considering this is a multibillion dollar franchise those are really weak reasons, but probably true.
I can't believe such a deedicated, intellegent and totally not lazy filmmaker such as His Highness Taika Waititi would ever create some stupid plot contrivance in his movie just because he didn't bother with research. Doesn't compute.
@antona.1327 You're right. No filmmaker or storyteller has ever written a plot contrivance before Taika did. What, did he kick your dog or something? You really have it out for the guy

Also, didn't kick my dog, but he ruined my favorite Marvel superhero, so yeah, it's personal for me.
In my marvel Fan-fiction, the mythological inaccuracies are fixed. Though I do have to make up characters to make them make a bit more sense.
Edit- Actually, now that I think of it, I might just cut Thor Ragnorock from the storyline- it’s just straight up moronic. I never liked the film anyway and it makes no sense.
Mjolnir’s indestructible in the comics as well, no way in hell Hela could do that
This is my new favorite series. Absolutely incredible
Asgard doesn't look chaotic? Hmmm, Odin missing and Loki acting like he is Odin tricking everyone. I call that chaotic.
I call that sh1tty comedy. In the real Ragnarok there literally wars, bloodshed and degeneracy across the realms. People aren't chilling and watching silly theather plays, which, btw, didn't exist in the Viking Ages, same as greek musical instruments that are played in the show.
@@antona.1327Uhm. Regarding theater plays in norse society. Theres some speculation that the myths where sometimes used for dramatic theater performances using poetry.

Yes, dude took so long to make this ty for making it 😊
17:59 It's not exactly the story, this is the closest we get to Jormungandr in the MCU for now. Maybe Loki creates him to protect what he made in the Loki series, actually "fathering" one of his children for once. Time will tell, I'm quite interested in what's to cone with him.
it's a pointless line of dialogue that was invented by Hemsworth, who doesn't even know about the story of Jormugandr because he never bothered with much research. Quit writing fanfics and pretending like the MCU will do something well for once - they won't.
6:40 okay i was not expecting Skyrim Draugr
Gotta point out an error on your part. Odin specifically refused to eat any of those apples. He's on a strict wine-only diet.

How can I not love the Mythology Guy when he just says out loud all my inner thoughts and rants?!
Not in the myth that I know, but in the comics, when Odin dies, his power transfers to Thor, which does not happen. Also, the bug guy and the rock guy are friends of Hulk and have pledge them selves to him.
It's like the gods in the MCU have their own religion and believe in some kind of superior "Valhala" lol
Regarding Valkyrie's name, she's implied to be Brunhilde, if the more recent comics are of any consequence
Love your content. Hope the Nlrse GoW videos are coming soon
Norse Hela : daughter of Loki and Angrboda
Comics 616 Hela : Created by Bor Burison and adopted by Loki
MCU Hela : eldest daughter of Odin and eldest sibling and dark foil to Thor and Loki
Take your pick
Comics Hela was born by Angrboda who at some point mated with Loki and gave birth to three monstrous children. What you're talking about is a recent retcon that shouldn't be taken at any value because those same Marvel Comics of today completely destroy their continuity by letting these awful movies influence them. Which is why we now have African-American Valkyries in Thor comics and why Thor for some years was a short-haired dumbo who acted nothing like he should.
Thor in Norse mythology = Guts
Thor in Marvel comics = Aragorn
Thor in MCU = Johnny Bravo
Take your pick.

Technically hela said that they just stopped at 9 realms, I think that is her confirming that just every planet is a realm, and Asgard only conquered 9 of these realms before they stopped
The reason Hela doesn’t look like Hel is because that would be too interesting for the MCU
She doesn't look nor act like Hela is supposed to be. Also, her half-dead look is canon to the comics. But it appears only when she is weakened.

I know this is going to shock everyone but Thor was not a clownish Himbo in Norse Mythology and didn’t have an Australian accent.
Thor is also not a himbo in Marvel comics. In my opinion, this movie is more of a parody of Marvels Thor, but in a good way like the Lego Batman movie.

Well, the comics and the characters are still based on norse mythology, so it's still valid to correct inaccuracies.
