It's very impressive to see how ballet dance is very linked to this style !!

Thank you very much ! It is indeed quite a long dance. Most of the dances in the tb dance book from 1826 are as long as this one. :-)

Okay, question. How was this different from what was danced, say, in the 1728-30's?

    • @tymanung6382

Waltz then was Austrian farmers dance.
Aristocrats favored minuets, etc., but also Allemand (=German in French) +
huge no. of arm positions + arm turns,
perhaps even more than in Landler.
Minuets, etc. popular dances had little or
hand body touching--- partners were often separated.

This is so pretty and sweet! How much of the choreography is prescribed in the chart? Are there elements that you added to give it more life?

I know it's late, but I just read a book that described someone learning this dance. I thought, "5th position? Why ballet for a waltz?" So I searched until I could see it performed. The dance looks very much like it was described to me. Guess I'm used to later waltzes.

      1) All.hand + arm positions + turns are
from German Austrian Swiss folk dances, like Deutsche Tanz, in French
the Allemand, even more, 1 of Landlers
note that some of same arm turns, etc.
movements,.are same as in Landler in
      film/stage play Sound if Music!

      19th c.sociap dances,,at least moddlev+ upper class versions,.borrowed 5 footb
positions+ 5 arm positions from ballet.
Intervene, ballets often include social dances
      Even early 1800svEnglishnlongways country dances,
etc. used some ballet steps. See for example
TH-cam video by Real Royalty called
      Those flirtatious Regency Balls.

Was the choreography presented for a particular Ball of the era and if so do you know which one. I understand many royal functions had their Dance Masters develop the steps for a particular ball or musical piece?

Etrennes à Terpsichore Hello! I'm doing a documentary about The History of The Embrace in Tango Dance (1800-2000). And I want to use part of these images for showing some roots.

You are right ! It was our first attempt at dancing this waltz, and also our first reconstruction hence why I was very nervous ! Now when I look at it, there are so many things to change to be more accurate with the description of the dance and to be more natural. :-)
