I am in need of a new pencil sharpener for my sketch pencils and wondered what type would work best for watercolor pencils. Should I buy two sharpeners? I can’t decide what is more impressive Michele’s artistic talent or botanical knowledge (tie). I am embarrassed to admit being from the US that I have called Kitchen paper “paper towel”. As far back as I can remember it is paper kept in the Kitchen. Yes, I have seen the error in my ways from this point on Kitchen paper is what I will call it.
Glad I am spreading the word about kitchen paper (!) I have tried many sharpeners but my favourite is the helix desk barrel sharpener. If you need further adjustment after that then a little fine sandpaper will do the trick.
Thank you Michelle for another fantastic lesson. I really appreciate how you break your videos into chapeters! It makes it so easy to refer back to a sections I find particularly useful! I often refer to your past videos for refreshers on techniques when working on a new painting.
You have given me ideas for different varieties of flowers that I haven’t tried before. I’m now prepared to experiment with the ideas you’ve suggested. Thanks so much!
I’m excited to see your new Watercolor Flowers Course in May! This was a wonderful video of tips & techniques for using watercolor pencils. Thanks for sharing this wonderful information with us!! Enjoy your weekend Michele!
Excellent and useful advice for a new user of watercolour pencils - thank you. I appreciate your straight-to-the-point explanations - so clear and inspiring me to try them all.

Ever since I watched this video, I have been using a spare cutting board to turn watercolor pencils into paint. It has been making my painting process a little bit faster. The problem that I have though, is that I spend so much time redoing part of a flower multiple times. I hope that I can get to the point where I just feel satisfied with what I put on the paper. There have been a few times where I tossed a painting to the side, and then realize that it looked good when looking at it again a month later. I really need to get a move on with producing more paintings.
I love this. I see powder water color and i thought of your pencil demo and instead of spending more money on yet another thing just useing your method i get the same affects!
Had to fight my way through a zombie apocalypse going on in Trafalgar Square last weekend. They’ve definitely taken over the HR department at work, back home, too.
i love your videos ,thank you i have had a 36 set of Derwent watercolors for a very long time ,i took out the pencils and made a watercolor palette from the tin .i have 35 of the pencils still i want to paint with them ,

I love your watercolour pencils- they look so richly pigmented unlike the crap i bought which are too light😢
Ah, some of them are like that. They can still be used for drawing into paint so don't bin them though!
Thank you so much again, my drawings after using your techniques are much better than before! 😊
My pleasure 😊

Think I have a plastic cutting up board that strongly resembles your posh board for turning pencils into paint. Might give that a go.
I have one like that too, I'm certain it will work.

Great techniques, Michele. Thank you for the inspiration. I have some ideas as to how to finish an abstract botanical I recently started.
Wonderful!
I love it that you seem totally unaffected by the reaction of rigid purists who seem unable to expand their thinking.

It's never easy to judge a painting immediately. I have some I hated that I love now and vice versa!

Thanks! That was really helpful.
Glad to hear it!
For the flower pestles or dots would it be fine (and economical) to use a bit cheaper watercolor pencils for the shavings and dots?
Yes I often use cheaper pencils for watercolour details, they don't dissolve well which can be an advantage 🙂
Where can I get watercolor pencils?
Please bring kitty ,Michelle
Where to get watercolor pencils?
Any art shop or Amazon :-)
Have you painted a zombie 😅
Not YET ;-)
I'm counting on this channel being zombie approved. 😅
