I went with a Work Saver 48 inch grapple and I have fallen in love with it.
I don’t know how I ever got by without it.

Thanks for the great video, I’ve been wanting a grapple , I have a John Deere 5203 without the 3rd function also. You have given me hope now for getting mine fitted with a grapple.

I too do not have the third function on my tractor, my Kubota L2501.
I bought my grapple from the local Mahindra dealer.
We ran my hoses underneath the tractor from the start.
He came up with a bracket for the front and it works great.
The way that we ended up doing it eliminated the expense of the extra fittings.

I should’ve done that in the first place too, but I bought my tractor used.

I designed and then built my grapple from Square tubing and ⅜" AR450 plate, built my own quick connect, bought the 3rd function from Summit Hydraulics for $700. All totaled, plate, tubing, cylinders, 3rd function kit, hoses and connectors came to a touch over $2200. Which was less than the $2499 +tax+shipping that was pretty much the average online price for a 4ft. And there was an almost across the market 6 week lead time. The advantage to build my own was no warranty, and I can modify it in any way I choose. It is WAAAYYY over built. ⅜" Plate is far heavier than my little tractor needs but I don't have to worry about breaking or bending the grapple.
On your explanation of raking, the dealer was most likely talking about bending the rams on the loader curl. If you fully open the grapple to rake, the rams are fully retracted, but the curl rams are extended and more likely to be bent. It is best to rake at low speed on initial passes to be sure you don't encounter an immovable object.
I agree on remote hydraulic use for the grapple, but if one can, it is advantageous and very convenient to have the 3rd function on the loader stick. One reason for that is, it leaves the rear remotes open for things like a hydraulic top link, which is incredibly handy if, like me, you are also using the box blade in conjunction with the grapple.
There is a short on my channel of the grapple's initial test if you want to see the design.
Edited to correct auto incorrect and failure to proof read. Lol

      Thanks, I’ll check it out.
And yes, I want to have a hydraulic top link, so I have to add a diverter or something on the rear of my tractor.
You have a lot of skills, my friend if you did all that

I bought the Armstrong Ag BGR72-6. It weighs about 670lbs and I sure know it's out front...but...what a workhorse of an attachment! As a load hauler, mesquite removal, brush pile moving, raking undergrowth under tree groves, physically ripping out brush overgrowth.
I'd never heard of Armstrong Ag, but my dealer in Seguin carried them. No way would I need anything else. Robust design, overbuilt! Texas made.

Yes, probably overbuilt, but worth it!

I would think it might even be faster and maybe a stronger clamp pressure I thought about doing the same thing that you did just to let you know I think your prices are higher than ours in my area

Thanks, it seems to work pretty well. Actually, I bought the quick hitch stuff online.
I bought the grapple locally, though.

get a break from my politics. 🤪! With some home town Allen video! that's what I do. That's how my tractor F1910 works for the snow blower on back. You snake hoses on back from the blower to the bucket H. system. it turns the snow shoot. you lose bucket control not the up and down. Suffice it to say, this snow blower would work GREAT for Target flat parking lots. Long story!
