  • Staying one step ahead in Muay Thai or any other striking based combat sport means developing the ability to pre-empt your opponents next move. With aggressive fighters, that typically means they will be coming forward at you in a straight line after blocking your initial attack. Using this knowledge can ensure they walk onto any heavy counters you like to follow up with.
Muay Thai world champion Niclas R Larsen here, alongside world renowned Warrior Collective coach Panicos Yusuf, gives details on one way he likes to set up the left hook against forward moving opponents whilst sparring or fighting. I took this video during an amazing recent Muay Thai Holidays (@TrayvaleTravel) Training camp over at the phenomenal Sitsongpeenong gym in Bangkok 🤯😍🔥

One would assume the "aggressive" opponent has closed distance, and the left hook is intended to be a headstrike. Please demonstrate this next time, at least once (in slow mo, of course).
    Thanks for the technique. Nice!

So the right is not thrown with power and just a disctraction for the kick and lead hook?
