Yes it will. MySql server is standalone. But once you install phpmyadmin it also pulls in Apache webserver and the php libs, so that phpmyadmin can run in the web browser. As long as you follow the tutorial you should not have any problems.
Because I wanted to show people who would like to know where to get the information from that I used for the video, hence taking 18 minutes. Not everyone is a computer whiz VenoGames and some people appreciate the extra tuition.
Thanks so much. Great and especially well done video for both newbies and those who have a bit more computer expertise. Good going, Shane! Looking forward to now checking out the follow up video.
@stephen larosa. I would say you need to edit the MySQL config file to allow your LAN network, by default it only allows local host being 127.0.0.1 change this to say 192.168.0 to allow your local network too. See MySQL help on help. Ubuntu. Com
Thanks for this, Iam barely starting with programming and c++ is giving me a hard time with databases. Why most companies want you to know about mysql instead of c++ databases?
HI there, thanks for the great tutorial....very easy to follow....One question (just for clarity): After installing the linux server, my sql and php myadmin, will my sql and php communicate with each other straight away? they dont need some complicated code or some funny computer science stuff? guys, im knew in this kinda stuff so bear with me if im asking obvious questions....just wanna be 155% sure
Sounds to me like you have a password miss match for your root user. Did you make sure that the mysql and phpmyadmin root password was the same? if not the phpmyadmin will not connect to the mysql server. Check out help dot ubuntu dot com/13.04/serverguide/phpmyadmin.html
i need help shane, i have ubuntu server (runing a minecraft server) and am goign to use this to host one of my plugin web pages but i cant get to (computers ip)/phpmyadmin from the computer next to it any ideas
dude, i was about to punch the screen. If you want to know what ubuntu is, you search "What is ubuntu ", not "ubuntu database with phpmyadmin instaltion". Too much explenations
Thanks Tom for your kind comments.
Thanks for your comments. Glad you liked it. :-)

Your welcome. I use RecordMyDesktop, which can be download from the Ubuntu Software Centre, or via apps.ubuntu. com

I noticed you have an extra / at the end of phpmyadmin
try
localhost/phpmyadmin
What application did you use for the screen capture on this tutorial. Thanks for the clear and concise work.
1. sudo apt-get install mysql-server
2. sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin
your welcome.
