  • We were fortunate enough to enjoy the Haven experience in an aft-facing penthouse suite, situated at the portside aft corner of Norwegian Escape deck 11. The large balcony offered incredible views during our cruise. The bedroom had a super comfortable bed, and the bathroom was a spacious and welcomed change from the rooms in which we usually stay.

    Thank you so much for your quick reply, Thomas. I am so claustrophobic that I truly don't think that will work for me. I appreciate your thorough description.

    Was this on Norwegian Escape? The layout looks different than other Aft Facing PHs on this ship.

  • @QUEENLOLATV

    i have been in the HAVEN and the PH are IMO, the entry level (ALBEIT EXPENSIVE), the owner's suites are the real treat and the 2 bedroom villas with minisuite are a nice perk.

    A trick for the lights, a piece of folded up paper will work as well. For those that don't wanna stick the key in the light switch

    the perk is def!!! the dining experience and private deck and CARTE BLANCHE access to the shows.

    Great video! It looks like your suite on the Escape has the same exact layout as our Aft Penthouse Haven suite on the Getaway (including the balcony size). We loved the layout, especially the size of the balcony! We just didn't like how far it was from the Haven courtyard. It looks like the Haven is on the Forward side of the ship on the Escape which is kind of a bummer.
    We just booked the Haven Deluxe Spa suite (H8) on the Escape later this year!

    Was noise from Spice H2O an issue? Can you hear it inside the room if the sliders are closed?

    how much vibration, if any, did y'all experience being at the back of the ship?

    • @thomasmckinley3381
      @thomasmckinley3381 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on the time in question. During normal sailing, on such a modern ship, the primary sinusoids generated by the bow are designed to be cancelled by the addition of the nose protrusion, known as the bulbous bow [Reference: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulbous_bow]. This greatly reduces wave generation, improves efficiency, and has a significant impact on reducing ship-wide vibrations, induced by trudging through the water, as they travel from bow to stern. An aft room will experience 'more' vibrations than more forward staterooms, but not really noticeable during sailing, in my opinion. You will feel vibrations (fore and aft) during docking, as azipods take over and mucho energy needs to be dissipated during inefficient, low-speed maneuvers. I always know on any ship when we start docking at 5am, regardless of where my room is, simply because I am quite sensitive. Higher decks should experience less of this, being farther from the source, though the top-most deck (often open lido deck) will feel it, including some vibrations along the outer railings where folks like to lean; feel the power! Where an aft room gets interesting, particularly on higher decks, is in the sway. There is nothing quite like being rocked to sleep on a cruise ship, the bigger the better. I will complain that the sliding door would squeak during large sways, either getting pinched slightly by the frame or seals simply rubbing back and forth, it did bother me at times sleeping in the common area. I stuck a wedge in the door, which helped, but did not eliminate the issue. Other than that, this stateroom is a dream -- possibly my favorite of our many stateroom experiences. Hope this helps!

    Wow. Nice. How much does a suite in the Haven cost? Was it free to eat in the specialty restaurants?

    • @FNTssonic
      @FNTssonic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +cindy opondo Haven suites are broken down into categories and will cost different amounts accordingly. It also varies week to week due to demand/peak travel season/holidays. It was free for us to eat at the specialty restaurants because we had the Ultimate Dining Package.

    Thank you for the tour. Question: Is there a window in the bedroom?

    • @thomasmckinley3381
      @thomasmckinley3381 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sharon. The bedroom does not have a window; there is a door leading from the bedroom to the common room, and there is the door to the large bathroom (only accessible from the bedroom). From the door from the bedroom to the large bathroom -- I refer to it as the large bathroom because there is a smaller 3/4 bath across from the stateroom door in the common room -- it is then a straight shot through the bathroom to a large picture window above the soaking tub, so there is plenty of natural light, even with the bedroom door closed to the common room. Note that there is a floor-to-ceiling window at the aft end of the huge walk-in shower [definitely a 2-person area ;)]. Happy to answer any questions. Hope this helps!

    Is it worth the price difference from a balcony room

    • @thomasmckinley3381
      @thomasmckinley3381 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The prices difference, in our case, was effectively a wash because we decided to split with another couple vs. separate balcony staterooms, i.e. the price per person was approximately the same. Pros: Haven access = private restaurant, private pool, private sundeck, butler, priority boarding and boarding lounge, etc. Cons: Splitting the room. Was not an issue at all for us, would share again (have done so) with our close couple. There's a 2nd bathroom, plenty of space, and the room attendant will swap out sheets, etc. whenever you want, if that's a concern. The balcony, oh, the balcony. You could spend your entire cruise out there (and have the butler wait on you). I would definitely split again to make up the price difference.

    How large of a bed is the sofa bed?

    • @FNTssonic
      @FNTssonic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zoie Stratiou It comfortably fit two adults. I would say it's larger than our queen at home, so probably king sized

      I brought her from home. ;)
      We actually shared the stateroom with another couple. We took turns a couple of nights in the bedroom and shared the large bathroom. It is quite doable with four adults that know / get along with each other well.

      @@elleash5539 I hear u, sharing the room with another couple & taking turns in the bed? That seems super weird

    • @thomasmckinley3381
      @thomasmckinley3381 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elleash5539 There is a king-ish-sized fold-out couch in the living room. The room attendant converts the entire area, as needed, morning & night. It is more than enough for two adults, in my opinion. I doubt $3k per couple for a week's vacation is for "broke people", but if you're flush with $6k for 7-nights, by all means, live it up. This was a fantastic room.

      We split with another couple, $3k per couple. But keep in mind that includes Haven restaurant access & meals, and the booking perks at the time included Ultimate Beverage Package for two people + Soda Package for other two, Ultimate Dining Package, etc. Basically, the Haven folks rolled their eyes at the Main Dining Room.

      The butler did bring us snacks every afternoon. He 'magically knew' when we boarded the ship from an island and had a cart of snacks (fruit, sammiches, sweets) roll in either before we made it to the room or shortly thereafter.
