Thank you! Now you can get a soft start on your Gree air conditioner. I've been using a SoftStartRV on mine since discovering in a day of installing it that it doesn't have a soft start or variable speed compressor. It was causing my 320ah Lithium battery and/or 3000w inverter to trip on over current. The SoftStartRV solved the problem, reducing the compressor start amp spike from 48a to about 22a. I really enjoy the simplicity of operating the Gree air conditioner from my Lithium battery and 3000w inverter for hours.
Awesome Sandy. I have an appointment at Eco-Cool to have mine installed. It’s same Gree unit just rebranded like the Atmos.I’ll be removing the soft start from my Dometic and transferring over so this makes life easy.
@bparkinson1234 Yes the Atmos is a Gree as well. Yes an MicroAir will work, I recommend trying their new EasyStart Breez, 75% reduction of startup spike.
Wow, thanks for this very timely information. I very recently damaged (... yes, it was a stupid mistake) my Dometic Penguin II 15k heat pump unit on my 2022 LTV Unity. I'll have to look at the Atmos 4.4. I already have the Lithionics 320AH, but I still have the Xantex 2000W inverter.
The Atmos is a great choice and it has a heat pump. A 3000w inverter is really the right size inverter for air conditioner operation and still have power to run coach outlets. That's why LTV switched to it for 2025 when they added the Truma with soft start to the list of things powered off battery with an inverter.
@norm4907 I was sitting in my recliner, which is directly underneath the air return, and holding the Meyer right in front of my face. So about 2 feet under the air return.
Epoch battery 460A 300A Max Continuous Discharge (500A 30s Discharge). Someone could save their money and just get a better battery. $1999. Nice videos on the Atmos though. Thanks
The Compressor start spike in some cases lasted over 40 seconds. Save wear and tear, and risk of blowing your Lithium battery very sensitive Mofets BMS by adding a SoftStartRV. Particularly since your Epoch battery doesn't have near the protection protocols and low internal resistance as my advanced Lithionics Lithium batteries have. The issue was only visible with the Lithionics battery App, because it maintains a data log of everything the battery experiences. You can download the data log and see exactly the amp surge and length of time of the surge. The Lithionics battery can protect itself when the humans don't know enough to. The Victron Multiplus 3000w Inverter can only handle surges up to 5500w. So if the Atmos 4.4 requires 5820w and over 450a at 13vdc to start it's compressor why risk your inverter and Lithium battery investments, just install a soft start to dampen these surges. Using stuff at it maximum thresholds routinely only shortens their life.
@@SandyRVUpgrades Those are interesting numbers. Quite different from the Penguin II 13K. Why, I wonder? With such a more efficient system, motor, and compressor. I am looking at getting it installed at SDG in mid July, I will definitely take your experience into consideration. Thanks!
@rideadeuce You should look at your Dometic Penguin ll manufacturers data label. My old Dometic had a compressor surge rating of 52a, higher than the Atmos, which is 48a. The Dometic 52a translates to 6240w and 480a at 13vdc. A Xantrex Freedom XC Pro 3000w Inverter has a surge rating of 6000w. So, no RV air conditioner above 13k BTU should be run from Inverters and Lithium batteries with out a soft start added. The Truma Aventa has an even higher surge rate of 58a.
@@SandyRVUpgrades Yes, I understand. I may not have stated it clearly. My Epoch 920 aH, MPII3k Victron 12v system handles the DPII easily. Why wouldn’t it be able to deal with LRA spikes from a more efficient Atmos 4.4. Not trying to deny your findings, I just remembered that I do have the micro-air soft start on the Penguin and I believe Kevin mentioned that they could re-use it for the install. Hopefully.
@rideadeuce If you have a Lithium battery banks about 500a they your batteries should be able to handle the surge, but you still need to understand if your 3000w inverter can. As I said the Atmos without a SoftStartRV has a surge of 5820w and a Victron 3000w Multiplus inverter can only handle surges of 5500w. My friend who has a Multiplus had both his single 320ah Lithium battery and Victron 3000w Multiplus trip off on the Atmos compressor surges. It wasn't until they installed a SoftStartRV that their setup could run the Atmos without issue. I have a Xantrex 3000w Inverter which can handle 6000w surges and I have a 960ah Lithium battery bank, so I had no issue running the Atmos without a SoftStartRV, but I don’t want to be running that close to the surge limit of my inverter, so I installed a SoftStartRV to ensure I never have an issue. You say your Multiplus handles the Un-SoftStartRVed Atmos, but based on my experience and the Victron specs, it might not always be the case. Just saying something to think about.
WONDERFUL video. Thank you for the details and sharing.

This looks like the gree eco-cool. The easy start micro air should work?

How far was the db meter from the unit, ducted or not.
