If there is one problem with many Galen products, its that they have not undergone enough testing to iron out small but significant problems, like the strap of the bag. I also bought the bag and it is sitting unused because the tabbing system is so poorly thought out that I fear either the bag will smash to the floor or I would get stuff stolen in a urban context.

You don't have to replace the leather strap. Just go to a shoe repair store and ask them to add two clasps. Shoe repair stores have leather sewing machines that can sew the clasps securely in the leather and at the length that is more convenient of course for you.
That’s true, but I also found that the thinness of the strap became uncomfortable when the bag was full, as it would dig into my shoulder. Plus I figured a new strap wouldn’t be any more expensive than getting custom work done.
@@oliveboypensThey will not charge you that much to sew the strap. Not to mention that you can do it yourself if you have a sharp nail to open two holes on the leather and a bit of waxed thread. It is not something that difficult to modify the strap. You can also attach a pad on it. Generally speaking leather straps last longer than the synthetic ones and they match with the leather bag. Anyway.. I'm interested to buy this bag for my urban sketching kit and I'd like to ask your about how is wearing out. Does it retain its box shape after some years of use? And also how about the magnets. Do they hold the bag securely closed or the leather softens that much that the magnets can't hold it tightly closed. I'm asking because this a very expensive bag and most of the online reviews are about new bags and not already used ones. I don't want to buy a box bag and end up holding a boho one! lol

I would have been spewing if I bought the bag and found that flaw. Have you complained about this flaw to the company?? They should be notified so that this problem can be fixed. Why should anyone go to the extra expense of buying an additional strap? After viewing your video I think there are probably cheaper options for a writer's bag that can be explored. Does one really need pen loops? A nice stand alone pen case within the bag is fine. I'm a fountain addict so I have plenty of nice leather cases. The old fashioned brief case with a handle is probably a cheaper option. A quick check of Ebay "briefcase" has brought up hundreds of options in leather for as cheap as $55 Australian and in hard case. Sorry to be negative about the product but I'm positive about your video it was spot on. I will be looking out for more of your videos. All the best.

I have not complained about the flaw, but I’m thinking that I should, considering they are releasing a LARGER version of this bag (A4) with the same strap design!! I’m sure the problem will only be worse then. At the end of the day, it’s a bag for a very specific group of people, not for everyone. That doesn’t excuse such a design flaw tho. Still love my bag!
@@oliveboypens I actually ordered something off eBay for a quarter of the price with free delivery. It has a separate compartment with 3 pen loops and can take an A4 notebook. Keep the videos coming. I love your work.
