What a magnificent piece of history you have assembled here. As someone who was lucky enough to frequent all of the areas featured in your varied selection of film and stills, over a period spanning very nearly 50 years (1963-2010) it was a truly nostalgic trip back in time - thank you. Sadly, I never got to see either Heathfield or Mayfield railways stations in the years of operation but spent many hours viewing the aftermath and lamenting there passing. How unbelievably short sighted were those responsible for such wanton destruction. It always amazes me why English Heritage can, in my opinion, waste millions of pounds annually in preserving piles of "medieval stones" yet pay such scant regard to our industrial heritage.
This is is a wonderful time capsule within a time capsule. We moved to Heathfield in 1997, and it's amazing how much had changed between 92 and then. 23 years ago, and some of the old names mentioned here still survived, and you could still here hear the Sussex accent spoken now and again. But no more. Many thanks for this.
