  • This video documents the disassembly and analysis of a Model T engine that failed. The failure was in the transmission, principally the drive plate connection to the Warford transmission drive shaft was made round due to very significant alignment and balancing issues with the main shaft and the various transmission parts. During the disassembly, Mike discusses the condition of the parts, problems with the engine restoration and suggest corrections and the reuse of the existing parts.
Due to the length of the video it has been separated into three (3) parts.
Part 1 has the following major elements: (Total Run Time: 40:27)
    1. Introduction
    2. Removing the Engine In a separate video
    3. First Looks ~ Starting at 4:38
    4. Initial Observations ~ Starting at 5:41
    5. Transmission ~ Starting at 8:45
Part 2 has the following major elements: (Total Run Time: 22:30)
    1. Connecting Rods
    2. Flywheel and Field Coil ~ Starting at 8:09
    3. Mains and Crankshaft ~ Starting at 11:11
Part 3 has the following major elements: (Total Run Time: 31:13)
    1. Valves, Tappets and Cam
    2. Cylinders ~ Starting at 6:52
    3. Wrap-Up and Summary ~ Starting at 11:15
    Summary of Issues Found:
    1. Drive Plate Shaft Issues. Missing freeze/oil plug and square hole made round due to alignment of main shaft and the drive plate/ brake drum alignment and bushings.
    2. Triple Gear Bushing and Pins Should Have Been Replaced.
    3. Main Shaft Cocked and Off Center
    4. Transmission Not Aligned
    5. Transmission Drums Not Balanced
    6. All Rods had cracked Babbitt on the piston side. Bad tinning/Babbitt job?
