I think the main aim of the video is to bring out the quality of output and depth that both players are bringing to that backline,just ignore the title,TH-camrs do it all the time.

Just praying Timber can stay fit and has no reoccurrence of the ACL injury. He is an amazing player...along with De Jong the best Dutch talent to emerge over the last 10 years.
Signing Calafiori with injury merchant Tomiyasu available also means that we will be less reliant on any specific player. We'll have multiple options and this will allow us ease him into the squad.
With Calafiori's arrival, my humble opinion is that Zinni needs to relinquish the left back role entirely and be used solely in midfield. Zinchenko is a defensive liability but can serve us well as a ball handler in midfield.

Based on last year preseason and community shield, if timber stayed fit for the whole season i believe we would have won the EPL.
100%. Him and Partey are so vital to how we play and in breaking down low blocks and stopping counter attacks.
In possession Timber inverts from LB into midfield and if you look at his stats at Ajax you'll see that he had the most progressive passes, progressive carries (and the highest % completion in both) in the league and way more important stats like that, with them being even better in the CL.
He was supposed to be our key to unlocking the low blocks teams play against us whilst still having the defensive prowess, physicality and pace that Zinchenko lacks to stop counter attacks and defend 1v1s.
When Timber does this in possession Calafiori will move across to LB/LCB to cover him much like Gabriel did last season, while Partey will drop between Calafiori and Saliba to cover the space and be the anchor for the team.
It's pretty crazy considering Gabriel - Saliba were the best CB partnership in the world last season, but it seems like Arteta is going to play Calafiori over Gabriel due to his ball carrying and passing ability being much higher than Gabriel's.
I believe Calafiori will start at LCB against lesser opposition who play low blocks and Gabriel will be played against the top teams where we need an elite defender more. Gabriel may be subbed on for Timber later on in games that he doesn't start, with Calafiori moving to LB to go super defensive to see out games.

@@zsino most likely, you are spot on. except I don't think zinchenko breaks into LB spot over tomiyasu. zinchenko will be used as a sub in games we are behind in to give us an attacking threat off our weaker left side. similar to how he's been used since January. rarely starts games and definitely doesn't play in tight games, but if we need a boost, he will come in and give us another dimension. I really don't want to see anything throw Ben White off his game. he went from an absolutely shit signed at 50m as a CB, to *unpopular opnion* our most consistent player the last year and a half. nothing flashy or crazy, but 8/10 defending every game and little moments of brilliance going forward. he is the most important part of our defense will his calm play. Saliba is world class, but Ben White is our new nacho monreal. we know what we will get from him every week, and he will always bust his ass for the team. He's just better defending that monreal. I would love to see Timber play in the CDM role and then fill in for LB or RB as needed, but that's the type of thing every fan knows would work, but will probably never happen. Just like how all fans wanted us to have Arteta switch zinchenko to the xhaka role which he will be great at. In FIFA it works too. In football manager, I played about half a season with zinchenko as pivot and timber as a ball winner due to injuries and let me tell you, they paired perfectly together. the only weakness they had was that they weren't winning headers in the middle of the pitch. timber is better than 95% of fans realize. califiori absolutely can't drop him to the bench. even though it would be textbook arteta to drop him, it would be a huge mistake. Timber and Rice playing a double pivot, taking turns between defender and driving forward would be immense. However, In an ideal world, we will bring in someone like Onana who knows his role and will be a midfield destroyer. That is what this team is missing. an anchor man will unlock new heights in this current squad. I wouldn't even want to see another striker over that. all we need is cover for the CDM position and a young trossard equivalent that can play on both sides to give saka a break
Lol Timber is not a CDM. Calafiori had that ability but it might be White because he has the engine for box to box

I think calafiori fits in better as the 4th defender for a few reasons: height, speed, left-footed, aggressive, solid defensively. However, Timber offers the ability to play anywhere in the back line, and a level of flair that none of the other players have. I think timber and tomiyasu (assuming they can stay injury free) will see a lot of minutes in rotation and off the bench since they can both step in for any of Saliba, Gabriel, White, and Calafiori while offering something different

Timber was one of the reason why Arsenal didn't win the league last season. The other left back couldn't replace him. I saw they played Bayern at home and the left sides are very poor getting exposed too many times by Leroy Sane

Jurrien Timber is very fast just like Saliba. Solid defending skills but weak in the air. Calafiori is more like Magalhaes. Strong in the air and solid defending skills. Calafiori will go right into the LB role whereas Timber will take up the RB role.
Timber have so much highlights in just about 4 games or so

Calafiori and Timber are both required to deal with the mid block issues we’ve faced. Both great dribblers that carve open space and create overloads whether it’s from inside or in the channel. Still need another couple additions at the 6 and in attack to round off the squad but he’s an ideal signing
Jurriën Timber has this gangster confident top dude about him. He has that attitude of some of the invicibles (Viara and Burkamp). People will underestimate due to his size an absolute beast. ARTETA IS GOING TO SUPRISE PEOPLE WITH USING HIM AS 6.

Timber ALWAYS impressed me whenever he played, while Calafiori is a typical Italian defender who defends the Italian way, look like a rock when needed without discounting the agility part of his game.

White, Saliba, Timber, Cala are going to stop it all. Arteta knows how to get the best out of players, including playing out of their natural position. Not to mention we have Gabriel, Tomi, and Kiwior who are very reliable 1st rate defenders as well.

It’s not timber or cali… Cali or timber will play CB. Replacing gab. As they are far better on the ball. Plus can move into midfield. Similar to stones. Gab is the one under threat.

it would be a great backline, but its criminal how much we take Ben White for granted. the most consistent defender arsenal has had outside of nacho monreal in the last two decades; and even then, he is a better defender than monreal. Personally, i think timber is better for our system than Calafiori and It's an absolute shame he will probably not start because of this signing. I'm starting to wonder why spending so much money on defenders. now we are linked with another CB in Guehi. But all is well. Calafiori won't play more than 15-20 games a season for us. His body couldn't handle the intensity of Serie A; England will be hard to adjust to for him. He is a great defender though. but the GABBYxSALIBA partnership cannot be interrupted.
The squad is not bad ,but we should created space for party or joghinio to start against villa last season, just saying.
The good thing these 2 players give the option to change the formation when needed, we have been missing a plan B, however, for me, I would start Timber in front of Calafiori providing he can stay fit.

I rate Timber very highly and think Calafiori adds depth. Cover that does not significantly weaken us when called upon is essential

Timber may well have lost a little bit of his pace and bite in the tackle since his ACL, so fans had better manage their expectations accordingly, there's a chance he won't quite be the same player as before the injury.
Niggling injuries may also occur, as no doubt his mobility and natural balance will now be affected.
Just be careful with pinning too many hopes on him.

timber but both are very good and calafiori should be our LCB, timber RB (LB vs big 6 or teams like villa with white RB) and zinchenko LB in other games v defensive low block teams or just generally undangerous teams.

I don't get it ... We have Saliba + Gabriel (the PL's best center-back pairing) as starters... If it ain't broke don't fix it... Is Califori going to sit on the bench? Unless he can play left-back and share it with Timber. I even hear of a swap deal in the making involving Guehi and Nketiah. Why would Guehi, England's revelation at center-back, want to come to Arsenal to sit on the bench and lose his newly won starting place for England?? Make it make sense🤷🏽♂️
They both have the same weakness that is too aggressive. It will giving up a freekick and return with a card (yellow or even red). Also it hurt people and it hurt them self. Not surprise when they both suffer from injuries.That's not a right. Arteta and coach team have a lot to do with their play style.
don't let aesthetics bias deceive you , calafiore is a much better LB its however, its the same argument with zinchenko and tomiasu except timber is 10x more defensively solid and calafiore is just as solid as tomi and is naturally left footed
so if you want a powerful runner and will improve our poor LHS dynamics = calafiore
more technically gifted who will comfortably invert and help out the midfield (can do the same from rb as long as calafiore is the cab not Gabriel) = timber
imo here is how it should be : in easy games like the Ipswiches Sheffields Chelseas you can drop Gabriel for calafiore basically be stones , timber lb - in tough games you can if u want drop White for timber or imo tomi with calafiore at lb and big gabby at lcb.
basically , timber white calafiore tomiasu and Gabriel allow so many options that no one will be burnt out and them legs will always be fresh. just need that Saliba backup now.
