    Riot should start buying the cheats manually and then detecting the cheats. This is what Arma 3 does and that way cheats become very expensive resulting in less people buying it.

      @@GxbeFay perhaps a little bias as well. But since yesterday I have been unable to play the game because 'Vanguard is not initialised' and this is on both of my computers. And I have troubleshooted absolutely everything, and as a CS student, I mean everything and there is no fix in sight. With almost half a day spent trying to get the anti cheat to work it leaves me with a very bitter feeling towards this game.
      It seems almost ironic that later in the day RL posts a video showing how cheating is already getting rampant in the closed beta no less.
      So not only is the anti cheat ineffective and intrusive but also tells you program X Y Z was stopped, then you open up valorant and it's bugged in some way, then it's another reboot.
      My point in summary being this anti cheat is not seemingly doing a great job in its primary function, and is instead a major pain in the ass for a lot of people just trying to play the game.
      It is in fact possible that riot painted a target on their backs by creating such an 'amazing' anti cheat which led to worse outcomes than your average easyanticheat, battleye program because it gave hackers a new challenge.

    Good video Rich. I hadn't realized there were so many cheaters already (haven't played valorant in a while).
    I really don't see the point of vanguard anymore when Valorant has just as many cheaters as cs. You probably don't see them as often in cs, because of the trust factor system, but there's plenty of them. Riot really needs to step up their anti cheat game if they want people to keep playing/having vanguard installed.
    Im personally considering uninstalling vanguard, as its very annoying to me that I have to manually disable it every time I launch my pc. The cheaters problem is the scourge of our time and it affects all popular games that have been ruined by cheaters. CS:GO, Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone and now Valorant.
    I am afraid that online games are over now because cheats today are too easy to access and the methods for detecting them are highly ineffective. About 15-30% of cheaters are banned after a few months. Most of those who use paid or private software NEVER get caught and cheating for years.
    Honest players have nothing to look for in such games anymore. Sad but true.

    Valorant is a great game but vanguard has done nothing to stop cheaters. I would be diamond by now but can barely stay high gold because of how many wallhackers and aimbotters. It's quite sad that Riot seems to be hands off about this. They make statements to seem as if they are working on it but how can there be like 5-10 different working hacks right now? It's literally so common in ranked games now that I am surprised when there isnt a cheater in the lobby. Without exaggerating it's about 75% of ranked games right now. If Riot truly values competetive gaming then this should be their priority. To not only ban the accounts but ban associated ip addresses and computers from ever playing valorant again.

      @shotgun_chef3265 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dutchygamerz No source just some logic on why it is the way it is. But in general all anticheats need to be trained to determine what is a cheat. Combine that with how specific people like alpha players, high level streamers and “pros” have access to the anticheat developers directly. I would assume they are using these players who have a better idea of someone that is cheating than a common people. If they are trying to feed better input data into the anticheat system. Training it with better data should in theory make it better in the end. The process I have seen so far is “high level player” clips section of sketchy play, sends sends information on sketchy player if they can get it. The anticheat dev goes in and scans to determine if people are cheating. I only say that because a few nights ago Shahzam’s team reported a player on their team and the devs banned the player on his team but also banned a guy who was queuing with TenZ named FreeAgentBobby(fabobby on twitch for those who want to see the meltdown that happened after if it isn’t deleted). Shahzam’s VOD from 5/6 (3 days ago) at about 6:50 timestamp.

      @@shotgun_chef3265 While your statements are somewhat correct. you are working on the assumption that the Vanguard AC works using deep learning to determine cheaters. While i am pretty sure it doesn't use any kind of machine learning to achieve its purpose.
      To be completely honest, it sounds a little like you don't know what you are talking about and spreading false information to imply that you do.
      As far as i am aware Vanguard just uses the traditional way of anti-cheating by reading memory values or/and checking running processes for anything suspicious. These kinds of anti-cheats do not rely on data gathering to improve. instead, they are updated manually after certain software leaks have been found and reported. hence why the bounty for finding such an exploit totals 100.000 US dollars.
      It is however true that anti-cheats relying on machine learning often need time to properly function. like Valve's VacNET. Do keep in mind though that valve didn't mention the fact that they were building a deep-learning anti-cheat until it already had gathered a size-able sample size.
      Cheats rarely, if at all, "modify game files" as you have said. its nearly impossible to create a cheat that decompiles the files in such a way that it makes it undetectable. Cheats usually just read out memory values and edit them to achieve a hack, or implement the use of some sort of shared library like the .DLL files.
      The sole reason that vanguard needs time to become better is because it takes time for all of the exploits to be found and patched, much like a regular application.

    • @shotgun_chef3265
      @shotgun_chef3265 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dutchygamerz I am not the most well versed in cheating, but yes I know they don’t actually change the game files and it involves exploited dlls typically, but I would assume that would leave some sort of trace. Also I assumed it was a learning anticheat like vacnet because of their discussion of the anticheat banning based on aim movement in one of the discussions about it. That is I suppose possibly a step too far to assume that idea, but in the end the devs still need to obtain information about the cheats and how the exploits are working in order to develop a database of things the anticheat should check for correct? Or am I that uninformed that a traditional anticheat system doesn’t need to know what to look for to actually prevent known cheats? Also the other reason I would again assume it is a learning anticheat is because of the fact they intend to ban mid game. Because of that fact they would be at a severe disadvantage to the cheat developers because fresh accounts could be created to essentially debug their cheats immediately to determine if they are detectable or not.

    • @arjentromp12
      @arjentromp12 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shotgun_chef3265 What it all boils down to is that there are a multitude of ways of creating and countering cheats. and because of the nature of the struggle both parties try to keep their methods secret for as long as possible.
      You are also not completely uninformed as you've clearly demonstrated a basic understanding of how stuff works.
      As for you assumption that vanguard was a deep learning anti-cheat, your assumption could very well be correct. The proper way to "teach" a program to look for certain trends is indeed machine learning. however, my limited research into vanguard has never made any claim that it used any sort of machine learning. That is why i asked for your source at first because i might have missed an article. In theory, you could program an anti-cheat to perform similarly to deep learning, but i would consider it incredibly inefficient to do so, because it takes lots of time and you need to account for every single variable trend in players that cheat.
      As for "exploiting DLLs" as you have stated. its not really an exploit specific to DLL files alone. as DLL files are simply library additions to the executable that runs the game. I for example make mods for games in the unity engine (for example My Summer Car) and use DLL's frequently to add my own specific code to the already existing game. Older games like call of duty 2 used to have cheats that you could "launch" by running a replacement executable instead of the actual call of duty executable file. This is also why for example ESEA executes the CSGO.exe file automatically to make sure you are not booting a .exe file with DLL's attached. this is also why if you were to boot CSGO from the original .exe file manually you are unable to join VAC secured servers. And also why faceit requires you to close your game before launching the anti-cheat to ensure you can only boot the proper csgo.exe using steam. As far as i am aware there are no modern competitive games that allow you to boot the executable directly specifically to avoid the issue of not being able to detect wether or not the legit version of the game was booted. Almost always a "launcher" is used nowadays.
      And yes, the developers are surely gathering data that they will use to improve upon the basic vanguard anti-cheat. It wouldn't even surprise me if they are hiding certain details from the public specifically to counter cheat developers. but as far as i am aware it is done manually.
      When talking about the mid-game bans it is really no different from CSGO. CSGO will still kick players that have been detected by VAC . it just doesn't end the match when a cheater is kicked like it does with valorant. This is simply a game design choice to make sure you don't waste your time with a match whose results will be made void anyway. This really doesn't have anything to do with machine learning. Both types of anti cheats, wether machine learning or not, can take their time determining wether or not a person is cheating, but for very different reasons.
      A machine learning anti-cheat must first let the cheater recreate the trends that the Anti-Cheat has learned to recognize and than has to wait for these trends to cross a certain threshold. for example "has looked at players through walls for X% amount of time"
      A Standard anti-cheat would just keep looking at either memory edits or processes that are specifically altering the memory addresses reserved for the game.exe process, sooner or later this program will detect something it finds to be sufficiently incriminating to warrant the ban hammer for the player in question.
      both processes differ greatly but either takes at least some amount of time before you can see results.
      A guy actually made a CSGO cheat once that worked perfectly and was undetectable by the then up to date version of VAC. before implementing a memory edit he knew would trigger a VAC ban after a few days of use. He single handedly created a ban wave that could rival those of valve itself
      This is the link to the article, its a pretty nice read: www.pcgamesn.com/counter-strike-global-offensive/cs-go-player-releases-fake-hack-and-purposely-gets-3000-cheaters-vac-banned
      i'd like to thank you for admitting you don't know everything (neither do i) and having a civil argument. its been a while since i have had one on the internet :)

    You must be lucky to not get cheaters in mm on csgo. I mainly play faceit premium or ESEA and very very rarely go into mm. About 3 days ago Faceit was down and ESEA was taking ages to find a game. So I went into an mm game solo, I am Global Elite on a high trust factor account and the FIRST game I went into we had 2 people aimbotting on the enemy team and then a guy on our team rage hacked and started spin botting.... Then FOUR of the enemy team started spin botting. All of their accounts were public, all had over 1.5k hours one of them had 4k hours and was using spin bot. The whole game latest I believe less than 25 minutes as each round was over within 20-30 seconds.
    This is the reason why I don't play MM or avoid it like the plague. Ive only ever seen 2 hackers on faceit, blatant hackers and Ive been on there since 2015. Both of whom were found and banned.
    If they want to truly get rid of cheaters, or make it less enticing to cheat. They NEED to start IP banning, charging full price for the game (above £25-£30), create a monthly subscription service for competitive play, hire cheat coders, create a large team of people who's job it is to go under cover and search the cheat sites and either issue DMCA take downs, threaten law suites, or download the cheats and study them so they can plug up the exploits and cracks in their software......
    The thing is all this takes time, money, and a lot of people.

      3 days ago? so you still have the demo you totally watched right? mind sending it to me?
      IP Banning will be useless since you'll get a new one every 24hours. i think the big reasons why there are so many cheaters in our elo with high trustfactor is 1.) the low price of a cheat and 2.) the low risk of getting banned.
      Cheat developers currently only need to work on features more or less. they dont have to worry about vac at all because its basically non-existent. if they would just make the cheat-devs care about their security that would mean they need to put in more work -> higher production costs -> prices go up. meanwhile the risk of getting vac banned goes up aswell (it's basically 0 right now, if you get vac banned nowadays you must have just discovered fire. And avoiding Overwatch bans is in the hands of the Cheater, not the cheatdev) all in all that would mean the mass of cheaters will go down, depending on how much vac has improved.
      the thing is it doesnt even cost that much. they are a multi-billion dollar company. at this current time anyone can fool that flagship of a company by downloading a source, changing it up a little and be freed from vac. that has to be a joke.

    LOL i've not encountered 1 cheater in valorant yet and i've played since the first day of beta. EVERY time i play CSGO there are cheaters in 50% of games.

    Maybe they should pull a CSGO and just have a cheater mode (non-prime, low trust factor) so that instead of eliminating cheaters, they can just partition them away from the rest of the community
