    Pastors notes
    Romans 5:1,6.
    1. We are justified or declared righteous by His blood, not the practice of some religion. Romans 5:7-9; Hebrews 9:22; 12.
But through His blood we have even more: We are eternally protected from wrath. This can refer to two things:
    a. Hell itself. John 3:36.
    b. The coming Tribulation Period. 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10.
    2. Jesus Christ provided reconciliation through His perfect payment for our sin. Romans 5:10-15, 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9.
Now we come to a series of contrasts.
    a. Judgement through Adam. The free gift by faith in Christ. Romans 5:16; 1 Corinthians 15:22.
    b. Death reigns through Adam. Life reigns through Christ. Romans 5:17.
    c. Condemnation through Adam. Righteousness through Christ. Romans 5:18.
    d. Sinners through Adam. Saints through Christ. Romans 5:19.
    e. Sin abounded. Grace did much more abound. Romans 5:20.
    f. Death as an end result. Life as an end result. Romans 5:21; John 6:47.

      "What shall we say, then?
      That GENTILES who did not pursue righteousness have ATTAINED it, that is, a RIGHTEOUSNESS that is BY FAITH;
but that ISRAEL who PURSUED A LAW THAT WOULD LEAD TO RIGHTEOUSNESS DID NOT SUCCEED in reaching that law.
Why? BECAUSE THEY DID NOT PURSUE IT BY FAITH, but as if it were based on works."
      (Romans 9:30-32)
      Meaning to say:
      (1) It is through faith in Jesus Christ that the Gentiles received the Spirit which in turn gave them righteousness.
      (2) Israel who pursued the law that would lead to righteousness did not attain it because they did not pursue the law by faith.
      (3) If Israel were to pursue the law by faith, it would lead them to Christ for "Christ is the end of the law for righteousness" (Romans 10:4).
      (4) But since Israel pursued the law by the flesh, as if it were based on works, it would never lead them to Christ. Therefore, without faith, they will never succeed in reaching that law to attain righteousness.
"Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law."
      (Romans 3:31)
