This is precisely why everyone was scratching their heads when they selected Penix. Why pay a guy so much money when you clearly weren’t certain of his health or his ability to play at a winning level? Good thing Penix is there but so much of your money is tied up in a QB sitting on the bench or playing for another team next season. That money could have helped surround Penix would more talent
@@kendallevans4079 yes, let’s use our #8 pick on a complete unknown. Plenty of college tape on Penix. They knew who they were getting and wanted him. It’s a different question to say how much he will work out in the NFL but if they believe their scouting is worth anything, then they were confident in their choice to select him at #8 being fully prepared to have him as a starter as MOST 1st round drafted talent should be good enough to do
The Jordan Love pick/situation was different when the Packers drafted him. Rodgers had been there for a long time & was a proven QB on a team who had been a perennial playoff team for years.. you knew what you were getting with him, plus he only had 2 years left of guaranteed money. Cousins was brought in as a free agent, who had come off a torn Achilles… way more uncertainty, so although the end goals were the same, these situations were different & made the Love pick way more understandable. Plus, Love was considered a project QB, Penix was a pro ready prospect. Just a complete disaster for the Falcons.
Mike Florio brought up a good point yesterday morning.. he said the Falcons have been engaging in reactionary thinking, rather than strategic thinking. “OMG we need a QB, OMG we need a QB,” and handing the keys to Desmond Ridder set the stage for it. It didn’t start last off-season, the seeds had been planted post-Matt Ryan. Terrible culture
I saw that too, and it was a great observation. It tells me that they likely signed Cousins out of urgency, without doing a ton of draft evaluation on Penix prior, then after the Cousins signing, they did more evaluation on Penix and were like “we’ll draft him, just in case it doesn’t work out with Kirk.” That’s bad thinking by the front office. Green Bay knew Aaron was going to give them 2-3 more good seasons, and then plan for Love to take over after. That’s strategic thinking.. what the Falcons did was not
The game where he threw 2 back breaking picks and 0 TDs? Cousins has looked absolutely washed vs every team not named the Buccaneers or Cowboys (two of the worst 3 defenses this year)
Maybe it is premature but at the same time the guy is in his 13th season. I’ve never heard of a quarterback making the 13th season leap before and I don’t expect Kirk to be a trend setter
@@JN-ye8qo you being at the game does not negate the fact Cousins threw 2 ints that gave a potent offense the ball back with good field position. Defense didn’t play well, but the game was tied until the turnover bug hit. Starting with those ints.
@darianwilliams3452 Kirk threw the first pick and the defense got a 3 and out. The 2nd interception wasn't until the defense gave up 2 straight touchdowns and gave him the ball back down 14 with 8 minutes left in the game. See I know because I was at the game. I don't have to guess. I WAS THERE. The defense cost us the vikings game and anybody saying different doesn't know football. Multiple blown coverages and explosive plays. Doesn't matter who our quarterback was that day.
So by your assessment, he has one horrible play and that was the interception. You failed to mention that the ball was tipped. You rightly made mention of the poor offensive line play, poor center play, poor route running by Mooney, and inability to catch the ball by Ray Ray. Yet, you are trying to align your critique with the media narrative and blame it all on Cousins. The whole offense is out of sync. Has Cousins been great? No, but you can’t complete passes to receivers that aren’t open and you can’t complete passes lying on your back. I can’t wait to see Michael struggle so Zac Robinson and Raheem Morris are exposed.
Was so hard being a vikings fan and hearing everyone talk so highly about him like he wasn't the sole issue dragging the team down. He's so ass and panics in every situation.
Taking penix wasn’t the issue. Taking penix while giving Kirk a shit ton of money is the problem. Now they’re going to have to deal with Kirk’s contract while trying to build a team around penix .
So is Penix gonna block, call better plays, play tight end, play defense, and kick field goals? No? Then nothing is going to change. Systemic shit falcons.
I agree that the coaching staff isn't the best, but he has Drake london and Darnell mooney, a top 3 running back in bijan, and a good offensive line he had plenty to work with he just sucks
@Jacob-qz9xs see I don't think the offensive line is any good and London doesn't create separation ro get get open as much as he should, Pitts is a dumpster fire, the offensive coach is a rookie and doesn't scheme to cousins ability or they're not gelling right now.
I mean Cousins isn't the future, he's the short term bandaid, at some point you need to have the guy you drafted play some full games to see if you need to potentially draft another guy.
Falcons just suck. It's not all kirk fault. Kirk was balling out in Minnesota. Watch Falcons get shut out by the Giants with the new rookie at qb. 😅😅😅 Let's go !!! CHEIFS
I think it has been nearly shown that enticing a veteran QB from another team and paying him a big contract is usually a mistake. The guy for the Browns, what’s-his-name. Aaron Rodgers. Brock Osweiler. And Kirk Cousins. Russell Wilson maybe was an exception although I think the jury is still out. But a lot of GMs make a classic mistake: “Paying an older player for what he’s done, not what he’s going to do.” But I think if you’re a GM you should look at a player’s age and how close or how over that age is to where the average player at his position shows decline. And in the NFL, 90 percent of the time, when a player is past 30 his best days are behind him.
Cousins historically does have a good arm. I think he was clocked at 59 MPH at his combine which if true would put him in probably the top-10 percent. Average is around 55 MPH, or Tua. And Cousins numbers have always been good EXCEPT win-loss in playoff games which I think is 1-3. But Cousins’ Load-to-Release (LTR) I think is poor although I don’t have that number. My eyes are telling me 0.4+ on LTR as he has a pretty extended throwing motion. Ironically Tua’s LTR is exceptional though at just over 0.3. But I think LTR is important because the higher the number the more time a DB has to react to a throw and get off his heels. Kirk had some great receivers in Minnesota which helped him but I doubt the receivers in Atlanta are nearly as good. But if you take Cousins’ age, his lack of speed running, and the player help he’s had, it wasn’t too hard to guess that being successful in Atlanta would be unlikely. Atlanta will regret giving Cousins that contract and they probably already do..
How did you make the video before he got benched like what if he never even got benched? Like I get you saying it’s outdated but who knows they don’t run the table and win the Super Bowl before lol

Maybe they are spending a lot on the future benefit of teaching a QB. You basically paid $100 million for a private tutor 😂 @@victorvanleeuwen1177
