    I have a 2003 SV650S. I had a set of bar risers from my old Gasgas 300. I marked it out and drilled the holes for the risers. Installed new bars with a rise of 4 inches plus the bar risers. Now I need extended throttle cables ($100.00 Canadian) and in two weeks it will be perfect. More upright position.

    Some people got away with re routing the S cables to get enough clearance. Did you try that before buying new cables or was there no way with the fat bars?

    • @Ebrakes
      @Ebrakes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CrustyModernLife? I did try that, and there was no way that the s cables were going to work with dirt bike bars. They were way to wide. I can see that working with bars that don't stick out as far on the sides though.

    hello there ! Nice vid buddy ! I'm on my way to converting my SV650S clipons to a standard bar, and I think I'll choose the "drill the top yoke, mount the bar clamp" method instead of buying a whole SV650N triple tree. The only worry I've still got is the thickness of the yoke. As i heard it's only about 5-6mm thick, would that be strong enough to hold up all the force put on it, I fear it will crack :( how did yours hold up ? Thanks !

    • @Ebrakes
      @Ebrakes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Huythanhvu Thanks! And indeed, it is rather thin for this application. And I would be very nervous about it cracking (or just shearing depending on how soft the metal is) if I ever dropped the bike. Especially with wider bars putting a lot more torque than normal on those points it seems very likely. However, I was confident that it would be good enough for riding applications. And a few thousand miles later it's still in perfect condition. My one suggestion would be to get as thick of bolts as possible to create more surface area touching the bolt itself.

    • @Huythanhvu
      @Huythanhvu 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks man for the reply :D Gonna try it on my SVS, or maybe I'll cnc-cut a metal triple clamp that's thick enough :D thanks again !

    • @Ebrakes
      @Ebrakes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Huythanhvu no problem, thank you for watching my video! And I really wanted to do that actually! I had like 3 other milling projects at the exact same time that I was doing the handlebar swap so I decided not to in the end... But it would be so cool to do that. If you get a chance you should upload a video showing the upper clamp if you go that route.

      @@Ebrakes I'm doing exactly the same mod on my bike right now, and I had the same worry about the thickness of the top yoke. Just pleased I noticed your post. Not sure how tight to torque the bolts though "10 mm" can you remember what you torqued yours too? Many thanks

    Which bar mounts did you use? They look good and beefy. I’m collecting parts right now and all I can find are small cheap mounts.

    • @Ebrakes
      @Ebrakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Travis Timmer the upper part is off a Scott's staring stabilizer and I'm not sure what the lowers are :/ found them in my parts bin. Are you buying 1-1/8 or 7/8 bar clamps?

    • @travistimmer8712
      @travistimmer8712 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      7/8 I’m sure
      I’ll be using a moto bar like you . One with a high Bend and a good sweep back to keep me as upright as possible

    • @Ebrakes
      @Ebrakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Travis Timmer nice, I'm sure something like these would be pretty perfect then: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/982/54061/Tusk-Universal-Rubber-Mounted-Handlebar-Clamp-Kit
      And you'll have a ton of options with the 7/8ths, I'm sure you'll find bars that fit you really good.

    why not just buy clip on bars with a 3-4 inch or whatever rise bar u want sees like a lot less work to me

    • @urbankyng6467
      @urbankyng6467 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      To my knowledge, clip-on risers aren't as wide as bars, and dont have the same pull back either. Which is why, some stunt riders use bars such as his.

    Hey bro, I just got an SV650, done up street fighter style, and the first thing I wanna do is switch out the bars like the way u did yours. I almost got an FZ1000 but since this is my first bike, I chose to go with the 650. I was really looking forward to having the bars that were on the FZ so first thing, I'm switchin em up. So any tips or any other thoughts on doing the bar switch out would be appreciated greatly. By the way, ur bike looks hella sick bro!

    The stock sv650s upper triple tree is not thick enough to drill and fit bar risers on, if you do this modification you risk your upper triple tree cracking. End of.

    • @Ebrakes
      @Ebrakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stephen Williams well as I've stated before I was worried that if I ever crashed on it that it would shear the riser due to the thin material. And on top of that I claim no responsibility for any damage that occurs to people's bikes if they do what I have done. I am simply passing on knowledge that I have learned. And now to pass on more knowledge for those wondering. I do enjoy pushing my limits and because of this I tend to crash more often then most. Since making the video I have crashed a few times. And I'm pleased to report that the upper triple tree is 100% good condition still. No cracking, no stretching, no warping. The crashes have been pretty slow... 5 to 10 mph range. A bike will still fall hard on the bars during a high side though. Of course at 70mph on the freeway it would certainly break something... But so would any bar set up you have. Just what I have learned and my opinions on the matter. Thank you for your input though. I advocate everyone share their knowledge on the subject. It is the best way to learn.

    Wait didnt you have a sv1000?

    • @Ebrakes
      @Ebrakes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      AlekVP I've had the chance to ride an sv1000 for a weekend. I got to know it fairly well. Reasons why I chose a 650:
      1) gas mileage, I get easily 50 on the 650, the 1000 got terrible mpgs
      2) They run hotter, not the best for driving in town with lots of stop lights.
      3) I really can't help myself, when I sit on a 1000 I get a ridiculous grin and go around w.f.o. every where haha. I just don't need that for a commuter bike.
      4) resale.. It will be a lot easier to sell a 650, they aren't as expensive as a 1000, that combined with people only riding for a few months out of the year where I live and more people would be interested in a 650, it will be a lot easier to sell if I want to.
      5) lastly, while I'm not required to get insurance in my state, if I decide to get it, or ever move it will be exponentially cheaper than a 1000.
      All that being said I really like the 1000 and would ride it again if I ever got the chance. It is an excellent bike. Just not the most logical choice for me.
