Galician is not a mix of Spanish and Portuguese, portuñol is that. Galician is actually older than Portuguese and its origin is the vulgar latin that was spoken in Galicia before Castilian became the language of the peninsula.
Ten years ago I was there as a student of the USC, University of Santiago de Compostela. They offeres many variety of programs, from trecking the 'Camino', learning Galician cuisine, or it's history, literature, you name it. Afternoon was my favorite time, walking every corners of the charming town, even everyone of the souvenir shops saluded me ¡Annon aseo! Although I'm Japanese 😅
The exterior and interior of the cathedral have now been fully restored, as have the exteriors of many of the buildings and streets shown in this video. The old city looks mostly pristine now. It's a very special place to visit.
That gigantic censer looks like the deacons are just having a bit of fun in the church, but I suspect it must have been created to mask the smell of all those sweaty pilgrims.
It's hard to explain what it feels like to walk into one of the local restaurants in Galicia (especially) in Santiago on a cold, rainy, winter day and be served a warm, steaming caldo with chorizo and garbanzos. The to eat it with artisanal bread (pan artesano) and a delicious local wine. Life just feels warm and right in that place especially if you are sitting next to the crackling fire.
Curios. In fact this is the best video of Santiago de Compostela, what i watched.I tought,a spanish video will be in my list about one of the the beautist city of the Spain....but,you are english.Never mind,i put in my list.Thank you,and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Its about 800 km form the Pyranees to Santiago. But you can start from a city, that is less than 800 km from Santigao away. But its really better to do the whole way!
+adrian martinez I'm sorry but I don't agree... I live in Galicia and I've studied Galicia for all my life (history and all of that stuff) I can tell you that Galician and Portuguese are like brothers, on the one hand you had Spanish and on the other hand you had Galician-Portuguese but the isolation of Galicia due to the independence of Portugal (and also other stuff) divided this language into two languages: Portuguese and Galician. Maybe you'll not agree, but that's up to you, thanks for reading ;) :)
Not bad idea, Italo, but, you know, the octopus is better, surprisingly, with red wine (the characteristic red popular wine in Galicia: not the quality of white one or another red wines along Spain, but the more fitting to octopus, for instance). Specially Barrantes or Rubiós, but if you let the barman guide, you always can find nice surprises and discoveries.
+ o português é considerado unha evolución linguística do galego
he pronounced "compestela" and "gallego" wrong!!! but anyway, this church is so beautiful, and even more so in person!! i should, i went. here's a fun fact; he forgot to mention tht when you pat the back of St. James, its only on the holy year, the last one last summer, 2010, when i was there, so i got to go up. there are so many carved beatuties there, and so much gold, its indescribable. tho from afar, i thought st. james was actually a real person sitting all king-like up there! amazing!!
The attraction of Santiago de Compostela is not mysterious this St James' Day. God bless you and all the many pilgrims who are again able to travel freely.
+ o portugues é considerado unha evolución linguística do galego
Galician and Portuguese were the same language, they are similar to Spanish cause all come from latin, but they are not the same. So nexr time you record a video be sure that the information is correct. The other things are ok
In Galicia were the land of celtics and portugal of moors that the diferent and i can,t undersantad a portugués speaker and i ca,nt understand talk a portugués galego is a romance language . And catalán is a mix of spanish and italian? That is a wrong
Galego is the roots of portugués becouse old kingdon of Galicia had two parts actually Galicia and smooll county Portugal When portugal had independence of Galicia grow up bye the south expelling moors. Galego is older than spanish and galego have many words the celtic origin. And spanish have many words the moors origen . And the reallity is the romance language italian france spanish galego portugués sre dialect of Latin . Becouse portugués ha 300000 millons of natives speakers and galego 3000000 that no true portugués are more important becouse wothout galego there are not portugal

I've walked into Santiago de Compostela four times, it never disappoints.

hahaha. I immediately scrolled down to find this comment. I knew i'd find it.

Fantastic video of my city. Perfectly portraited and described. Thanks for sharing.
Is it hot or cold weather ?
@@Fili2009able Depends comparing to what. For European standards it’s mild. Not too hot, not too cold. Rainny
Beautiful city enjoyed it thoroughly

Pulpo a la gallega es lo mejor!😋
Completing a full Camino is a life fulfilling accomplishment.
I would love to go there
Shalom from Indonesia.. 🙏🙏😇
You did your studies wrong. Galician is not a mixture of Portuguese and Spanish, it is older than Spanish.

One thing, the galician lenguage it isn't a mix of spanish and portugues
Galego is not a mix of spanish and portuguese.
"Embracing him from behind"- I laughed. Quite inappropriately.
I didn't expect that to be literal.
lindo - otimo video
Brazil
..and it is even better with a good glass of Albariño!
