    Hello, thank you for this great tutorial. Does the mk3 Megane RS have a gearbox oil filter and if so, do you change it sometimes?

      Hi, no worries, no it does not as far as I know

    You are brave to set te car ‘down’ only on the jack like that. Better be safe and set the car on 4 jackstands. Also you always, always remove the fill plug first. Even if it is plastic.

      @davezetec  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haven't watched the video for a while but it was on axle stands when I was under it, not sure what you mean by the second point, guessing make sure you can remove the fill plug before draining?

      @@davezetec yes, I saw that advice before . Check the fill plug first, if it doesn't release after the drain you're stranded

    Fuel pumps are advertised as only extracting, while I want to fill? Please the brand/type of the specific pump you use. Great tutorial!

    • @davezetec
      @davezetec  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there I got it randomly for christmas one year but the extracting is what I have. Fluid just goes in one direction so you can reverse the pipes.
      Note there's probably cheaper ways like a big fluid syringe.

    • @davezetec

    How often do you do this? Is the car driving better after such a change?

    • @davezetec
      @davezetec  ปีที่แล้ว

      I changed it every year however manufacturers always have a much longer interval. My reasoning was I use it regularly on track and the bearings are known to go on these boxes so I wanted it to have the best chance.

    • @davezetec
      @davezetec  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As for making a difference If the old gearbox oil has done many 10's of thousands of miles without a change you should notice the gear engagement feels better. I didn't notice a difference on this car however because of how few miles I was changing the oil at.

    Hi mate,
    How much fluid do you drain out only hacking up one side of the car?
    I plan to change my gear oil recently, wondering do i need to Jack up the car in the same level?
    Because i want to drain the fluid as much as i can.

    • @davezetec
      @davezetec  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roughly similar to what goes in so about 2.6-2.8 litres comes out, it doesn't look like much as I sped that up in editing.. plug is at the back of the box so in theory jacking the front up higher than the rear could help?

      I just had my gearbox oil replaced, and i reverse my car on two ramps then put two jacks in the front, and Jack up the car to make the car in a horizon level.
      I got nearly 3L, it looks like it has been changed in the past but my car only done 50000kms. And i put 2.5L in the gearbox

      @davezetec  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yimingqu1966 odd you got more out than you put in! But yeah the book says it takes 2.4l to refill but so long as the cars level and it pours out the hole all is good 👍

      @TheMrBennito 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davezetec is it an idea to lift & support as u did, one side. Deal with the plug, drain. Then bring the car down, so will be all level. That might produce a last bit drained out? Th n jack the car up again.

      Lol what

    • @robaustin245
      @robaustin245 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always drain when level. Not propped up one side, you will never empty properly. NEVER re use a sump plug washer. Using a higher torque could strip the threads. Also it was not a crush washer, just a plain copper washer that was on there originally so who you bought the car off did shit maintenance. Use a self centering bonded washer. Belts and braces.

    • @davezetec
      @davezetec  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@robaustin245 it was a genuine Renault crush washer as was the original but as you saw I had to make do since it was the wrong size.. never leaked after that if it did I would go back and replace it.
      Most actual mechanics don't even torque they just do it by feel, an extra 5nm won't hurt.
      As for being level to drain it should be even on both sides but if the front is in the air it doesn't matter much as the drain is at the back.
      Car did 60k with about 20 track days with me changing the gear oil every year so no it didn't whine

    • @TheMrBennito
      @TheMrBennito 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davezetec yes. And by the way, in case a little bit more of the old fluid would remain, how could it hurt? It isn't a flush & that means some of the old fluid remains anyway. Which, as I understand it, is not hurting at all. On the contrary. Complete flush is ill advertised, or isn't it :)

    • @davezetec
      @davezetec  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheMrBennito yes unless it's contaminated somehow there's no issue. Only way to fully flush is a gearbox strip down really. My other car a ford focus I drained the fluid on flat, removed the box to change the clutch and drained even more out just by tipping it towards the drain hole which you can't do while it's on the car.

      @@johnboy2436 yeah you're right it's still the pk4, the bearing whine is a common issue mine never suffered from it was on 50k when I sold it iirc with plenty of track use not sure if that's because of me changing the box oil constantly or just luck. Btw there is a new gear oil formulation since I put this video on beleive it's Elf NFX you need now.
