Hey Seth, I couldn't agree more with your review of the Salomon Pulsar. Although the outsole could use a bit more bite for CO 14ers, I've been testing it extensively (~130mi so far) for PPM and after much debate decided to race in it. I think what you lose in grip you can make up in speed on other sections due to the weight and the extra cushion over the Inov-8 really helps save the legs at the end of a long descent. That said, I am keeping my fingers crossed for an "SG" (Soft Ground) version with more lug depth for 2022 similar to the S-Lab Sense of prior years. Cheers!

Your agility is epic! Truly amazing that you don't take a tumble! QD: last time I was truly scared was about a month ago when I was finishing a 14 miler. I was about 1.5 tenths of a mile from my home when I heard rustling in the bushes . Before I could think what is that?, a black bear came out of the bushes literally right next to me! I quickly darted in to the road (55 mile an hour road-luckily no cars were coming) and the bear took one look at me and turned around and went back in the bushes. I think my heart rate was pretty high that last 1/10th home!

The time I was most scared in my training was a few weeks ago on an overnight attempt of the Presidential Traverse in New Hampshire. My brother and I started late the first day and it was windy and cloudy through the first three peaks but then the weather turned for the worst. Long story short, we had to down-hike a a waterfall to tree line and arrived 10 minutes before sundown to stay the night. The next morning we decided to end the trip there and hike 8 miles to the Mount Washington Auto Road and run down from there. I was absolutely terrified but I think it made me a better fast packer for it.

The last time i felt fear on a run was a trail LR that went a bit longer than expected. It was about 110F, I had run out of water and food and wasn't completely sure where I was because the trail wasn't marked and had many alternate trails intersecting. I used the horizon to point me in the direction i wanted to go but wasn't sure how long it would take. I was pretty worried for about an hour until i finally saw a structure in the distance which had a water available. First time in a long time i drank from a spicket in the ground. That water tasted better than any fancy bottled water out there. Desert running deserves respect.

QD. I hiked Mt. Whitney in one day and what a fun adventure. We started at Whitney Portal, 13 miles (21 km) west of the town of Lone Pine, California. The hike is about 22 mi (35 km) round trip, with an elevation gain of over 6,100 feet (1,860 m). We got back to the car after dark. I felt like I had the flu (body aches and nausea). Along with not feeling well I was worried and fearful about bears, but we made it. 😀

honestly right now I am the most scared that I have ever been in my running journey. This summer I have been working 13/14 hour days. I went from having the best summer training of my life last year to almost one of the worst this year. We have a very strong freshman class and our goal is to qualify for Nationals. Our team is solid and being a leader as a fifth year it's time to finally get going. I have had problems coming back due to my calf strain from the spring track season that left me in a boot and crutches. I tell myself that I will be peaking right in championship season in November with the freshest legs out there. I am nervous and scared but still continue to march forward. Cheers to what will be one hell of a cross-country season.

Seth, how do you balance the fun of running a route like this, and the risk of injury if you were to trip at pretty much any point along that run?? I recently ran part of the PCT near Lake Tahoe at Echo Lake. Was an amazing blast, I tripped and fell toward the end on flat dirt. Bruised up my rib a bit which haulted running for about two weeks. Made me think about what would have happened if I had fallen doing 630 pace on a boulder field.

QD: Yesterday I raced a 17K trail race in AUSTRIA with 1000m of vertical gain. I have the Mozart 100 Ultra Trail (100k) coming up on September 4th and am not that much of a speed trail guy. Yesterday's downhill sections were very technical and sometimes muddy/slippery. I risked a lot and the Salomon Slab Sense 8 SG helped a lot but I am always scared of falling and getting injured severely. Some runners have incredible downhill speed and I can't understand how they overcome their fear of the severe consequences it bears. GREETINGS FROM SALZBURG/AUSTRIA!!!

I hear you brother! Same for me for almost 2 years now. But I have kept running and training and even did my first half marathon TT in February. The latest thing I did that has seemed to really help wss to get shockwave therapy at a good physio clinic. Five treatments later most of the pain was gone and I ran a 15k trail race 2 weeks ago without a big flare-up.

@@davidgross7972 I wasn’t able to run at all for months. Went to PT for a bit and eventually started with baby steps of walk run intervals starting at 30 seconds running by 2 minutes walking. Finally after nearly 10 months of a slow progression I was good enough to start running steady and have built up over the last couple months to my first 10k today. Hoping to be marathon ready by 2022🙏🏻

Hi Seth absolutely sensational Vlog your video craft, the music the subject matter, just a pleasure to watch.
QOD: Being scared is an interesting concept. Fear comes in so many forms, fear of the environment your running in, fear of starting, fear of failure, fear of others expectations, fear of your own expectations, fear of pain.
The last time I questioned myself not fear as such but worried about external influences was earlier this year when training for my first ultra. All sorts of negative thoughts were coursing through my mind. Can I do this, am I good enough, I want to run a decent time to be accepted by everyone, what will people think, I don’t want to be slow, what will happen. All of these thoughts were way of the mark, totally without reason & just my insecurities & self doubts coming to the surface. So fear is many things to many people but if we can just stay in the moment when training, trust yourself & the process the journey you’re on will reveal itself. Then if you’re consistent, do the work & trust the process what ever happens you’re a winner.
Thanks again for this amazing vlog.

QOD: if I’m honest what scares me the most is every time I pick up a small injury and have to stop running for a period. Running seems to be a mentally calming thing that I do through the week and when I pick up an injury that just throws my mind in chaos for the period I am out.
