    Looking forward to your grocery shop this month , it's so entertaining to see how you budget, shop and then produce your yummy food.. A valuable lesson for everyone in how to save $ and makes things from scratch.. well done Nyssa... 👍

    Nyssa all that you do just amazes me. I have yet to get sourdough starter mastered. After becoming disabled and gaining 70 pounds, my mobility has gotten worse,so I am reducing my breads and baking, since menopause I no longer have the metabolism to burn calories very well. After trying ozempic, I realize that pharmaceutical products is not my solution. So until I get rid of the extra weight that is giving my knees and hip problems, I have to avoid the breads. But I am enjoying watching the recipes. I will instead make these for company.😊

    About your chickens, what about changing the location of your coop? Bring it closer to the house, put on the side that your family and your dogs spend more time on. This may discourage any predator from getting to your chickens.

    You need to be carful they don’t bit the dogs as they have bad toxic bacteria in their mouths. Might need to try and put some tree logs around the bottom of the cages to try and stop them from going in. But they are so hard to get rid of. Not sure if spraying some peppermint oil around would help.

    That waffle maker is a good find! I still haven't got my sour dough started. I'm slack. It's one of those bad weather jobs..... still waiting for the rain!

    I do the mini waffles low carb them put in freezer then just pop in the toaster and I have either a breakfast sandwich by adding sausage and egg, or low carb sugar.

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My intent was to freeze some and they could reheat in the pan (We don't have a toaster, they pull some big power) but I'm making a double batch already and its only really one meal and a bit of snack worth lol, I don't know if I have the energy to make more for the freezer! :D

      @OurSmallFootprint I know the feeling and with 8 of you that would be a lot because I can eat 2-3 of them myself. I make breakfast burritos for hubby and freeze a months worth. Our kids are all grown now so I don't have that many to cook for. Your kids have the best mom and dad on earth.

    Nyssa, do you dabble in home milling of wheat berries. I just got a mill and some hard white and soft white. It's supposed to not impact blood sugar. I can't wait to get going on it as I miss a lot of things to keep blood sugar down. I'm wanting to make English muffins and donuts with it.

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t currently, a grain mill is a bit out of price range for me currently, but also wheat grain here is considerably more expensive than flour! I don’t have any issues with blood sugar though, mine is pretty stable no matter what I eat (being overweight it’s one of the first things doctors demand I check :))

      @@OurSmallFootprintwell that is good I got my grandmother's genes , she got diabetes around 60 to. I hate it bread is one thing I love so I'm going to play with it and making my own pasta. I can understand the cost its 52$ for a 25lb bag here but I currently spend about 100$ a month on diabetic bread so hoping this cuts some cost. You're so good at all these special things I just wondered if you ever did that.
