Ivatt 2MT 41312 visiting the South Devon Railway - 5th October 2018

At the beginning of October 3 out of the 4 operational S.D.R. home steam fleet were away on hire to other railways. The fourth (L 92) was out of action being retubed. Ivatt class 2MT number 41312 was hired in from the Mid-Hants Railway for a short period until S.D.R. pannier 4612 returned from Shackerstone.
The video starts with early morning shunting moves in Buckfastleigh yard and then covers the journey to Totnes and return. Lineside and onboard shots capture the beautiful Devon scenery and perhaps more importantly the wonderful exhaust bark of 41312 working hard. Another sound not normally heard in this part of Devon is the deep LMS type hooter and it can be enjoyed many times on this video.

I remember when ivatt 41312 came to dean forest railway steam gals which was most loudest steam train I ever heard, especially those pistons

4612 isn't a SDR loco it's a Bodmin loco? Did you mean 6412?

I'm surprised that the Ivatt 2MT tank is on the South Devon Railway, how long is she staying at the railway?

My understanding is that once 6412 returns from Shackerstone then 41312 will go back to the Mid Hants - probably Monday 15th or Tuesday 16th October

Sorting out whether any money is made by hiring out S.D.R. machinery to others sounds likely to be complicated!

I think you may be right - However the hiring of 41312 wasn't planned but was forced on the SDR because of the failure of L92 so I guess finance was a secondary concern
