Will not stay in that pot, will escape. But looks great at moment. I have had bamboo split terracotta and plastic pots easily after a few years with runner bamboos in
You mightcould get something to grow in there the first year or two while the bamboo was taking over the pot. But eventually the bamboo would suppress or kill it.
Please don’t bury pots in the ground… Instead of the rhizomes being in the top few inches of soil now they’re gonna find drainage holes probably a foot or two below the ground; they can still bust through the side of a container too. Just plant them normally. The best way to control them is to work a spade around the clump, chop out the runners from the soil. Once after shoots leaf out, and again before winter; we all can benefit from a little more cardio.
In the video I said not to bury the pot in the ground and it is stealth planted, ie. sitting on top of the ground with mulch/pine needles angled around it to make it look like it is buried. You also can't physically plant bamboo in many situations when you have other plants (Palms) nearby and also sprinkler pipes in the area. This bamboo is about a foot away from 2 palms. So this is a alternative to planting. I have done this in over a dozen pots over the years and it is awesome to just move them when you want. You always put drainage holes in the sides and if you are worried about it escaping thru bottom you can tilt the pot once or twice a year to make sure it hasn't gotten out.
With that small area, you can just plant some clumping type bamboo instead. It will cover the entire area you have over there in about 5 to 6 years.
The bamboo looks great.

Never had it bust a hdpe plastic pot. Over 10 different pots and most are in there from 3-5+ years.
Excellent educational video, thanks! Are there any clumping bamboos you'd recommend instead of the types with runners? I'm in zone 8A.
I'd recommend looking up a local bamboo grower and contacting them You can usually find on google. Bamboo is pretty picky by area especially clumpers
@@tntropics Great, thank you!
can you grow other things with bamboo in the same containers?

Great idea!
