- July 4th, 1987- NASA's QSRA research aircraft Demo at Airshow '87. The last time I saw this jet, was inside Hangar 1 during the mid- 1990's..and it looked pretty worn out, and all shabby looking.

So glad I found this video! This plane is still sitting and weathering outside on the ramp at Ames. It sits near the old C-141 Kuiper observatory that's also rotting and weathering. It's sad to see these could-be museum pieces outside being neglected.
Nice video. Love this *coanda* effect. One of the problems was the hot exhaut temperature blown through the wings. Some commentator said this concept was used in the YC 14 & YC 15 prototypes so the C17 was the end product of this technology.
I was there in that airshow. I was amazed by how the airplane's close to hovering speed.
I miss Moffett Field I was there during this show. They had the best airshows. So many planes on display.. The Navy left along with the good shows..
Its on its way to the museum next to hangar one.
I was there for this one too!
Saw it today at Moffett. Belongs in a museum
Thanks for the comments!
Que maravillosa nave. Un espetaculo ! ! ! Eso sí que es DESPEGUE Y ATERRIZAJE MUY CORTO. Felicitaciones NASA Y NAVI . no sabía de este proyecto. 🇦🇷✌️
I remember it -neat looking Buffalo .Gobsmacking take off ! Pity they left Antonov to use it in practice .
Thanks Steve, yes, one of a kind going away - a Museum piece hopefully.

Coanda effect! This same principle was later used in Formula 1 to generate downforce in exhaust-blown diffuser applications!
Sorprendente avión y ¿alguien sabe porque no entró en producción?
Why the hell wasn't this developed more?
It researched concepts for use on the C-17.
On Wikipedia, see Boeing YC-14 and McDonnell Douglas YC-15.

wow
Sadly, this is now up for sale at GSA auctions: gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/aucdsclnk?sl=91QSCI16011601
If someone snags it for a museum (or to fly!) great, but I say "sadly" because a lot of this stuff ends up as scrap.
C'mon, the video must be at 0.5x!!!!!
JEEEEZ that doesn't sound very quiet to me...
Sucks that Antonov was the only one to make it practical.
