  • I will show you how to repot your succulent plants! Whether you just need to go up a pot size or your succulent isn't looking too good and you need to do some major work on it, this video can help!
    First I give you a few tips to keep in mind when repotting succulents and then we do two different types of succulent repotting together.
    TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND
    DRAINAGE HOLES - Make sure to use a pot with a drainage hole. Succulents can get root rot really easily so we need to make sure that water doesn't hang out around the roots and instead can flow quickly and freely away from the roots. One of the best ways to make sure of this is to have drainage holes.
    GRITTY SOIL - Make sure to give your plants gritty and well draining soil to make sure water doesn't stay stagnant around the roots. (I have a full video on soil mixes, so check that out if you have questions about this.)
    TERRACOTTA POTS - Terracotta pots can be a great choice for succulents because, rather than a plastic or ceramic pot that holds more moisture, terracotta is porous and breaths, helping to regulate the moisture in the soil. If there is too much water in the soil, a terracotta pot will help pull that out and evaporate the excess moisture.

    I use sushi trays aswell. They're a little flimsy so I put two or three together. No need to buy expensive trays. Meat trays are great as well, just make sure to wash them well. Don't forget to add drainage holes. A hot metal skewer does the trick nicely.

    What's the best advice you can give me if I want to start on succulents?

    For the repotting of the second succulent, can you do this with any type of succulent? I have a Echeveria succulent that is super overgrown and starting to grow sideways like the one you showed.

    • @mindtheleaves9914

      Hi Camryn! Yes, you can do it with almost any succulent! Any succulent with a thick stem can be chopped and potted up, so you can definitely do this with your Echeveria. 💚🙂

    Hi, how often should u water after the 1 week of sticking it into soil? And is it thorough or light watering? Thanks!

    • @mindtheleaves9914
      @mindtheleaves9914  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can start it on a regular soak dry schedule. So water it thoroughly and then wait until the soil is completely dry before watering again. It always depends but roughly about a week.

    Do you have to remove the existing soil from the roots for the first plant ?

    • @mindtheleaves9914
      @mindtheleaves9914  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You can if you want to, but I often don't with succulents unless I have to for some reason (bad soil, pests...) because I don't want to break too many of their roots. If you do it though, just let the roots callus over for about a day before you pot it up or pot it up in dry soil and wait at least a day to water it.

      Hi Michael, you can grow them inside but you do need a lot of direct sun. So a South facing window is ideal for them.
