Ironically this would be a great use of crystallize since his pillar would keep dealing aoe geo damage- constantly crystallizing thus letting the shield stay up for a very, very long time.
Issue is he has a much better shield if he just wastes 1 second more between rotations.
i dont think so, because you need zhongli's actual shield to be active for his debuff to work, and you really dont need to avoid using his personal shield to have 100% pillar uptime, and regardless... at this point just building zhongli's actual shield is better because its convenient and you can also do some dmg, meanwhile this EM build literally does nothing else than make crystalize shields strong so it doesnt benefit him at all in other aspects.
